BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am program director for services at Infodom, company focused on the modernization and development of business infrastructure and ICT solutions related to the transformation of the public sector. InfoDom Group includes companies from Zagreb (InfoDom and Teledom), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Belgrade (Serbia ) and Podgorica (Montenegro) and has about 150 employees. I am responsible for all our products in maritime and nautical sector, for security management and implementation of ISO standards.

For what projects/services did your company hire Kod Biro?

We hired KodBiro for development of mobile application Nautical Information Service (nIS). nIS is a free multilingual application for smartphones, intended for owners of yachts and boats, fishermen, divers, swimmers and other people who spend time on the coast and at sea. nIS was developed so that users could provide substantial and detailed information to the local harbormaster’s offices and other services for navigation safety, prevention of marine pollution, and especially to search and rescue services, in a quick and simple way.

What were your goals for this project?

Goals of this project was to develop mobile application which is easy to use and very relible - for SAR purposes (Search and Rescue). Our expectation was to have 10.000 + users in first 2 years, nautical tourists in Croatia. Inpact of this application is increased safety and prevention of accidents at sea.

How did you select this vendor?

We considered four Companies, for that project. Deciding factor was recommendation from University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing.

Nautical Information Service (NIS) is a free multilingual application for smartphones, intended for owners of yachts and boats, fishermen, divers, swimmers and other people who spend time on the coast and at sea. NIS was developed so that users could provide substantial and detailed information to the local harbormaster’s offices and other services for navigation safety, prevention of marine pollution, and especially to search and rescue services, in a quick and simple way. nIS can also provide users all the necessary information important for their safety, at any time and at every place. nIS enables users to dial a phone number used for distress, urgency or safety calls - 195 (MRCC Rijeka), while automatically reporting location of the caller via a short text message (SMS), which essentially reduces the time needed to find users in danger. Contents of the nIS application: 

  • phone call to the toll-free number of the search and rescue service – 195, with information on current location
  • maritime violation report (with an option to attach photos and/or videos)
  • weather forecast for mariners (air temperature, wind speed and direction, air pressure, waves, cloud cover)
  • navigation rules (vessel equipment, order in ports and at sea, avoiding collision at sea, marine environment protection, information for foreign vessels, divers and swimmers, radio service and radio notices, maritime marks)
  • public services contacts (search and rescue, harbormaster's offices, hyperbaric chamber, commercial salvage, consulates, medical institutions, emergency services, VTS service, coastal radio stations)

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Applications are active in Apple Store and Google play, and have very good grades, and positive feedback. We have about 15.000 active users in this moment.

We had very intense communication betwen teams, and excellent cooperation. KodBiro experts are allways reachible and respond on problems immediatelly.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are very agile—full of ideas and initiative. Also they were very patient and understanding for our customer problems and needs. Which is not an easy task.
