I’m the director of communication at Disability Rights Michigan. We’re a nonpartisan nonprofit that fights for the rights of those with disabilities.

What challenge were you trying to address with Kmotion Design Inc.?

We brought them on to help us with a rebrand.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Kmotion Design Inc. has led our rebranding efforts, using the information we gave them about our organization and our vision for the new branding. They’ve helped us create a logo and put together branding guidelines that include new fonts. Their team has also designed promotional materials like our business cards, letterhead, and brochures. 

Their team also designed and developed our website from scratch to match our new branding. Kmotion Design Inc. also helped us put together some social media campaigns on Facebook and Instagram. 

We plan to start working with Kmotion Design Inc. on SEO shortly.

I work with Katie (President & CEO) and have met with some of their project managers and web designers. 

How did you come to work with Kmotion Design Inc.?

We submitted an RFP, Kmotion Design Inc. placed a bid, and we hired them. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested over $30,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing partnership with Kmotion Design Inc. began in December 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our website hits have definitely gone up; more individuals can find us online through Google searches. Actually, the number one way customers find us is through online searches that redirect to our site. Our Facebook account metrics have also grown. 

How did Kmotion Design Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Kmotion Design Inc. is great at project management. Their team is helpful and knowledgeable. I’m not sure what project management tool they use, but they keep us on task. 

We usually communicate through email. Outside of that, we had monthly and weekly meetings during the rebranding process. During those meetings, we’d review the drafts of the work they’d provided, including the website framework and logo samples. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Kmotion Design Inc. really listens to us. For a company that doesn’t work in our industry, they’ve made sure to listen to who we are and who our audience is. Using that information, they’ve delivered creative solutions more outside the box than we could’ve put together. They have been really responsive to what we’ve needed. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything they can do differently. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I’d advise customers to have their talking points put together at the beginning of the engagement, along with the previous work they’ve done. That way, ​​Kmotion Design Inc. can better understand the customer’s business.

I’m a private consultant at a professional organization for educators, and our purpose is to improve the quality of learning assessments.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenges were you trying to address with Kmotion Design Inc?

We were looking to build a website for the Michigan Arts Education Instruction and Assessment Program (MAEIA).

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built the MAEIA website which hosts over 300 online performance assessments, along with other tools. 

We also got a bid for the Formative Assessment for Michigan Educators (FAME) project, and they helped us build our proposal for the Michigan Department of Education. They helped us follow ADA protocols and compliance. They ended up building a fairly extensive website for FAME which is gated. 

They used WordPress as their CRM. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with Katie (CEO), Justin (programmer), Steve (designer), Jess (former designer), and Alexandra (project manager). 

How did you come to work with Kmotion Design Inc?

We put out an RFP, I sent it directly to Kmotion Design since I’d heard about them through word of mouth. We clicked with them right away because they listened well and understood what we were trying to do. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in August 2015 when we did the MAEIA website. We’ve continued to work with them to create new websites and update old ones. They provided an update for our main organization website in 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We track the site analytics to see how many people download our resources and watch our Vimeo. It’s not a huge amount of traffic, but we’re reaching our target audience. We did a survey of users and the feedback has been largely positive. 

How did Kmotion Design Inc perform from a project management standpoint?

We used Asana to manage the project as well as an Excel sheet. They provided detailed cost estimates that we could look through line by line. Katie also listens carefully and takes detailed notes at meetings. I feel like we’re a team. 

We have regular Zoom meetings to go over our plans for projects. We also have occasion in-person meetings and talk over the phone. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re young, energetic, and stay on top of things. We’ve had no technical issues with any of the sites. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything right now. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers? 

It’s important to have close communication throughout the project. I also think it’s important to be kind and respectful when working with any vendor. Sometimes people don’t treat their third-party vendors well.

I’m a professor and the director of education at Kuyers Institute for Christian Teaching and Learning at Calvin University.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Kmotion Design Inc.?

We’ve been building online resources to help teachers to rethink specific parts of the school curriculum. We’ve been addressing that by developing resource collections with sample lessons and downloadable resources that teachers can use to try different approaches to their teaching. 

We needed help with the development of three distinct websites.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve done three projects with them so far. One website they built was focused on science education and looked, in particular, at the teaching of science and religion. It consisted of a couple hundred lesson plans with guidance and training resources. 

We did another site that was more broadly focused on moral and spiritual development. We’re wrapping up the third website now that’s focused on approaches to assessing student learning. It involved building a backend where students can take an online assessment and the site gathers data, processes the data so that school administrators could interpret and gives the student personalized feedback.

I don’t know the technologies they use. They did all the front- and backend design and development for all the websites.

What is the team composition?

There are typically between 4-5 people working on the project at any given time. My main point of contact is Katie (Owner) who oversees the process and liaises with various different people. 

Justin (Web Developer) was the lead on the programming side and any technical requests would go to him. Shandon (Designer) has most recently been working with us on graphic design and logos. There’s another person who coordinates and makes sure everything gets covered. The team is small enough that we’ve been able to develop relationships with each of them.

How did you come to work with Kmotion Design Inc.?

I found out about them through a colleague. We had several companies come in and make a proposal to us. What impressed me about Kmotion Design Inc, compared to the other companies, is they came in and listened to what it was we were trying to achieve. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2015 and we’re currently wrapping up the third website. I also have another one in the pipeline for about 6-8 months from now.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’m very satisfied. The sites have all performed very well. We haven’t had many issues and everything they’ve built runs smoothly. We’ve done different kinds of testing with the different sites. 

With the science and religion site, we did quite a bit test with students in different schools around the country where teachers used the materials from the site with students. We hired an assessment specialist to produce a report on how it was working. It wasn’t just about the site design, but whether the learning materials were actually working as well. None of the assessments have ever reflected poorly on the technical or website design. We’ve been very pleased with the sites they’ve delivered.

How did Kmotion Design Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They communicate well which is one of the reasons I keep going back to them. We have a small and personable team. They’re attentive and very responsive. When I email Katie, I typically get a response back within a few hours. They’re very prompt in addressing things. When we’ve had to correct text on pages or ask for a download link to be fixed, that gets done very quickly.

 They’ve been very flexible when we change our mind about something. They’ve been good at communicating budget parameters, how that affects the scope, and what’s going to cost more money. They’re good at listening to what we say and trying to implement our vision. They’ve been willing to go back to the drawing board if we feel like they haven’t quite nailed it.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’ve been a great pleasure to work with. They strike me as both very competent and very personable and easy to deal with. I’ve never hesitated going back to them for another project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’m happy with what I’ve received. For a reasonable price, I’ve received good service.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Meet with them and let them listen to your project plan. Let them share what they can do for you. It’s a very personalized service.

WE had a very antiquated website that had not been updated for almost 10 years. We completely designed a new website on a new platform together in less than 6 months.

What were your goals for this project?

Better flexibility and useability to share the Trendway brand and story.
