Find My Neighbourhood Image

Find My Neighbourhood

Fund My Neighbourhood is the decision and initiatives engagement website developed by Katalyst Interactive for the South Australian Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC).

In 2017, South Australians allocated $20 million of public money through Fund My Neighbourhood. More than 2,500 applications were received and almost 122,000 votes cast. Notably, two-thirds of users who started the voting process finished,

demonstrating the effectiveness of high-quality user design.

With an extraordinary response to the initiative, Fund My Neighbourhood website received unanticipated load from thousands of users surging to the website. This was quickly detected with an immediate response from Katalyst engineers to upsize to a cluster configuration in the cloud. This was delivered within hours. The cluster configuration allows the website to increase or decrease capacity to meet the needs of each phase of the initiative.

Data about voting and demographics were collected in each phase of the initiative and organised into relationships that allowed data to be summaries by categories for analysis.  The DPC team used this data to determine regions and demographics where there was limited engagement. They could then target marketing to specific demographics as well engage with regions who were not using the voting platform.

The Fund My Neighbourhood website won the Australian 2017 Good Design Awards for Best in Class.

Adelaide Fringe Webstie Image

Adelaide Fringe Webstie

Adelaide Fringe is an annual open-access arts festival run over four weeks in Adelaide, South Australia during February and March. Since 2015, Adelaide Fringe has partnered with Katalyst Interactive to build their ticket sales commerce website. Katalyst has developed a deep understanding of the Adelaide Fringe’s business, and established an ongoing relationship spanning multiple years. The website provides a solid foundation

for the Adelaide Fringe’s future expansion in the digital space, which can be scaled to handle millions of dollars in sales and traffic over a condensed 3 month period when the festival runs.

The Adelaide Fringe approached Katalyst in 2015 when their business critical website, infrastructure and ticketing sales system were straining under very high traffic, increasing user demands and high growth in their online ticket sales.

Katalyst partnered with multiple Fringe stakeholders to collectively re-imagine and deliver the Fringe’s digital presence. The website was redesigned with a long-term vision in mind and integrate into a new ticketing solution (Via by Red61).

With year on year increase in ticket sales, Adelaide Fringe required a scalable solution that could match their growth. Katalyst carefully architected a custom solution that implements data caching to provide quick and accurate information under extremely high traffic pressures. A clustered server environment allows for simple expansion whenever additional capacity is required.

The web application delivers a solid foundation for the Adelaide Fringe’s future expansion in the digital space. The data strategy and supporting infrastructure provides a platform, which can be scaled to handle millions of dollars in sales and traffic over a condensed 3 month period.

Katalyst has developed a deep understanding of the Adelaide Fringe’s business, and established an ongoing relationship spanning multiple years.

Customer Portal - GLG Green Life Group Image

Customer Portal - GLG Green Life Group

GreenLife Group (GLG) was established in 1995 and has developed a national reputation as a specialist in the commercial sector for landscape construction, maintenance and project management services. GLG partnered with Katalyst Interactive to develop a scalable digital customer portal that can be personalised to the needs of each customer. Through innovation and personalisation of service, GLG is leading it’s industry and

continues to partner with Katalyst to enhance its digital capability.

For this project, an Agile Scrum methodology was best suited to work with complex and changing requirements. Scrum focuses on quickly building the priority site features in short iterations (sprints), using continuous user testing for feedback, and improving the features through learning and enhancement cycles.

The platform needed to efficiently manage large volumes of customer data in each portal, as well as adherence to privacy laws, and information security to protect commercially sensitive data. The design implemented two-factor authentication, user access monitoring and reporting, extensive access permissions model including data export permissions, and auditing logs throughout the system.

Following the launch of their new customer portal, GLG successfully signed one of their largest contracts and was able to offer the new portal personalised to their client needs.

GLG have continued to work with Katalyst Interactive to further enhance the capability of the portal as well as developing new digital solutions.

YourSAy - South Australian Government Image

YourSAy - South Australian Government

YourSAy is the community engagement platform developed for the South Australian Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC). Since the creation of SA Plan in 2011, DPC and Katalyst have fostered a relationship that has spanned many years and seen the evolution of the YourSay website. Since the release of the current YourSAy platform over 40 individual government agencies have created around 400 engagements as well as over 18

different types of initiatives based on the foundation of YourSAy, including award winning Fund My Neighbourhood and Fund My Community initiatives.

The Challenge

South Australian Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) wanted to develop a new online decision platform to enable government agencies to inform and gather feedback from the community. The YourSAy website needed to enable agencies to create their engagements by following a process that would ensure best practice for engaging with the public. The website needed to be scalable so new engagements could be created with the click of a button and without the need for a development team.

The Solution

South Australian Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) engaged Katalyst Interactive to custom build the YourSAy website. Working with the team at DPC, Katalyst engineered an extendable solution that catered to multiple government agencies to engage with the community on different initiatives within a single digital platform.

The Outcome

Katalyst has played a fundamental role in the strategic planning and implementation of the YourSAy Platform since its inception around 2011. The system has approximately 117,000 registered users, and almost 100 government agency users over 21 government departments.

Since 2011, Katalyst has continued to work with the South Australia Department of Premier and Cabinet to further develop and improve the platform.
