Alberta Teachers Retirement Fund Office
The Alberta Teachers Retirement Fund (ATRF) serves as the trustee, administrator, and custodian of the assets of the Teachers’ Pension Plan. The ATRF has a long history with Alberta teachers since first being established in Alberta Legislature in 1939. At the time they serviced 5,844 teacher members; today they secure and oversee pensions for more than 80,000 teachers.
This project involved merging a new addition together with their existing space in Edmonton’s Barnett House (incidentally the building was named after John Barnett, the first Executive Director of the ATRF). Barnett House is located in Edmonton’s Queen Alexandra neighbourhood, which is a mix of residential and commercial.

Government Agency
This Government Agency has many offices across Canada and we were selected through a competitive process to develop a new workplace for them.
The Government of Canada has standards and mandates to accommodate their people. We worked within these standards, including their Activity Based Workplace approach. We took the opportunity to create a unique sense of place and culture for the office of 200 staff, by listening to what mattered to them as government employees.

YVR Pier D Expansion
Through the Pier D Expansion project, YVR sought to increase its international capacity, remain the airport of choice amid growing competition, and maintain its position as the ‘Best Airport in North America’. To achieve this goal, the Airport Authority commissioned their largest terminal expansion project in 25 years. This project would increase international gate capacity – adding eight new wide body aircraft gates – while continuing YVR’s Land, Sea and Sky passenger experience. In addition to the new gates, the expansion would span three floors and include carefully crafted spaces for passenger amenities such as retail, food and beverage, and thematic installations.
Following a competitive RFP process, we were honoured to be selected as the Prime Consultant to lead delivery of this world-class airport expansion. Consistent with YVR’s thematic storyline, the design vision for Pier D was intended to reflect the natural beauty of British Columbia’s rugged coastline, welcoming travelers through an interactive, immersive experience.

Humber College
With over 50,000 students learning at three Greater Toronto Area (GTA) campuses, Humber College has established itself as a premier post-secondary institution in Canada since its founding in 1967. The goal for the International Graduate School (IGS) was to build upon that reputation with the expansion of their first facility in Toronto’s downtown core. From project inception it was clear that Humber’s vision was to create a multifunctional space that inspired learning, collaboration, and innovation — connecting learners and industry in a professional learning environment, through an experiential academic design.

Absorb Software
Absorb Software is a global innovator in cloud-based learning management systems that has experienced recent rapid growth. The team works hard and plays hard, and CEO Mike Owens wanted to create an environment to reward his employees with a workplace that supports wellness and a social culture. We were engaged to create Absorb’s headquarters in a new location, the landmark TELUS Sky building in Calgary.

One Water Street
Kelowna, BC has been growing rapidly due to its world-class setting: enveloping mountainscape, a stunning lake, and a mild climate. The city has a story to be told about indoor-outdoor living, emerging culture, and connection to a vibrant community — and this foundation is exactly what the North American Development Group and Kerkhoff Construction wanted to build upon with their mixed-use development, One Water Street.
We were selected to join the development team due to our plan to holistically curate the ground-level environment and its connected spaces. We have integrated this way of working into our design process — Lifescape™ — which bridges the gap between physical space and human experience.

ERA Maple Ridge
East of Vancouver is one of the Lower Mainland’s up and coming best kept secrets – the beautiful community of Maple Ridge. On the tip of the Golden Ears Provincial Park, Maple Ridge has some big development aspirations – to rapidly increase housing stock to meet the needs of this growing community.
In the community’s downtown core is ERA, a seven-phased master-planned residential development featuring a village of condos, townhomes, rental apartments, parks and retail spaces. It’s a legacy project for its owners (two business partners who have lived in the community for decades) and is the first of its kind in the area. Phase one features 143 market and 49 rental suites of various sizes with a strong connection to nature, and a relaxed, community-focused lifestyle.
ERA is bringing a focus to central Maple Ridge and aspires to be a catalyst for future development to spark a new era of growth and identity for this community.
