For what projects/services did your company hire Kanak Infosystems LLP.?

Kanak initially provided support during a migration and implementation to Odoo.

What were your goals for this project?

Migrate an overwhelming number of deleterious business processes to a centralized platform to reduce redundancies org-wide. Processes which were targeted include purchasing, HR, sales and POS, accounting, CRM, project and web.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I had begun the implementation process with another vendor prior to working with Kanak. As we were facing certain challenges I began looking for a new vendor - one that would share values and long term objectives. Kanak came at the recommendation of an at-the-time current Odoo employee.

Prior to choosing Kanak as our development partner, I had interviewed approximately 5 other vendors. Ultimately, it was the people behind the company that helped me make the decision to move forward with Kanak.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

Kanak has assisted us in the design, development and implementation of Odoo customizations over the years. Typically, we will begin with discussions to help identify and clarify a business need. The team will take some time to R&D when applicable and revert with a proposed solution. This is then iterated until decided enough information is available to us for the go-no-go development decision.

What was the team composition?

The specific composition of the team will vary according to a particular effort but from Kanak we seem to always have ongoing tasks with backend and frontend developers. Additionally, from time to time, we will require sysadmin or support in another specialized area. Kanak is able to provide support for any Odoo related effort.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We are continually increasing efficiencies with Kanak as our development partner. Information is able to be shared more logically now throughout the organization. We've been able to federate access to people outside the organization which we've never been able to do before.

We are working as a team as we never have before, cutting out redundant workflow items and leveraging the analytics now available to us. Still we are just scratching the tip of the iceberg and have a lot left to do.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Our communication stack includes Github, Jira, Skype, Odoo. Language barrier has never been a material issue. Of course, there are miscommunications from time to time but there are members that will step in and clear up and confusion.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Kanak is an awesome team of people. They are genuine, patient and supportive. Aside from being very technically capable, they are also fundamentally focused on improvement. This is extremely important to me as a client. If there is some issue or misstep, I know it will be addressed and that the team and our business will be better for it.

Are there any areas for improvement?

One area in which we are currently seeing great improvements is delivery of technical specification and functional documentation accompanying new features. We have more work to do in establishing stable relationships with go-to resources in specialized areas.

Examples include system admins, server architects and db admins. Onboarding new resources when a need arises takes time and effort and can set the stage for server side issues.
