What challenge were you trying to address with IT Geek?

We hired IT Geek to rebuild our Shopify store.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

IT Geek did a complete overhaul of our Shopify store, implementing a new theme and adding entirely new functionality. We were on the old Shopify's Online Store 1.0, so they also moved everything to Online Store 2.0.

Basically, IT Geek rebuilt our store. Although the backend data was still the same, they created a completely new theme and added new functionality, such as a customer sign-in and international shipping rates calculator.

We implemented a wholesale account management and wholesale form that needed to be approved for wholesale pricing. Therefore, the team implemented a tiered pricing functionality so that we could offer guest pricing, account pricing, and wholesale pricing all in the same Shopify store.

What is the team composition?

I worked with a project manager, who was my primary contact, and two other teammates working in the background. I know that they leveraged senior expertise behind the scenes.

How did you come to work with IT Geek?

I found them on the Shopify preferred partner list. Their solid 5.0-star rating contributed greatly to us choosing them, and I also had confidence in the sales process.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $7,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project lasted from May–August 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The key success metric was that our Shopify store worked after the revamp, and any feature that didn't work, IT Geek fixed it immediately. IT Geek also did a lot of things that I asked for that weren't normal, and they did a really good job. Overall, I was really pleased with their collaborative approach to execution.

How did IT Geek perform from a project management standpoint?

IT Geek stuck to the budget and was flexible. I caused some delays, and still, they worked with me and met every timeline expectation. We didn't stick to the original timeline, but that was because I often had situations where I needed more time.

We primarily communicated via Basecamp messaging. However, whenever I asked for a phone call, IT Geek scheduled a call with me. I appreciated their willingness to have a live conversation when necessary.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I'd like to give a shout-out to the project manager for his willingness to listen and be flexible. He hit all the requirements very well, but he also worked with me to understand the intent behind my requirements and ensure that we got what we wanted. I really appreciated that a lot.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I had a lot of fun working with IT Geek, and I assume other clients have had a similar experience. The project manager's commitment to customer satisfaction was impressive. To me, he was the face of IT Geek. He was really committed to making sure they delivered something that worked the way we wanted it to, rather than just checking boxes.

Are there any areas they could improve?

In the beginning, I was nervous and skeptical. I was worried about whether IT Geek's pre-sales team communicated what we wanted. Once I met the project manager, I realized he was going to make sure he understood and interpreted what we wanted. However, I don't know how IT Geek could improve their pre-sales process because people are skeptical, which is a common scenario.

Have clear requirements. The better your requirements, the better your engagement will be.

I own a travel agency, and I wanted to have an online boutique where once the clients booked their trips, they could go over to the store and get things for their trip. Everyone wants new clothes for vacation or needs certain things for that certain trip they are going on. I wanted to make it east for them.

They helped me make my website look more professional, set it up correctly, and made it pleasing to the eye.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I have been wanting to get the boutique up and going for some time now, and I made the website myself; when I was done, I looked and saw that I could have hired all along. So I requested, and I think 5-7 answered, and I chatted with a few, but when I saw what all the IT Geek and, they responded with the answers and helped I needed.

Set up the website to make it easy to use and help me understand how what to do when orders come in and what I need to do.

There is a lot to name off the top of my head I can't. I have one that I communicate with, and he answers all my questions in a timely manner.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

It will be such a user-friendly store when they get done. I can't wait till it's completed.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The manager was easy to work with and very responsive to my questions.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They all are very talented, and I know why they do this. I didn't do well when I tried to create it myself.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Things can be done fast, but then it won't look good or do what I want and need it to do. So I would rather wait a little longer to make sure it all looks good and get a return on investment.

Revamp website in and out are far as app testing, push buttons correction. I was also given ideas for apps and pictures as well. I let the team put their spin on it as well. Turned out great.
