When someone wants to register a property, they have to pay tariffs. We wanted them to help us set up a payment system for these tariffs.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a national system for digital property registration. Now, we are working on a new project for national tariffs collection management. We integrated a system they had developed previously into our payment platform to create these tariffs and deliver the income to corresponding agencies and institutions. There are two systems that communicate through APIs.

What is the team composition?

I'm in contact with three people. There may be more people working on the project internally.

How did you come to work with INVID, LLC?

We competed with them for a project in 2014. They won the bid, but we developed a good relationship with them. We wanted to work with them because they were talented, proactive, and productive.

We started working with them around November 2017 and continue working with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The integration of their platform into ours yielded positive results. We’ve had about 50,000 transactions with their system. Using their system increased our sales and made the management of the public money for the treasury department and the property registry easier. For the first time in history, we started to validate and cancel tariffs digitally, which eliminates fraud.

How did INVID, LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

They did the work on time. Working with the government is not easy and the procedures are not easy to follow, which resulted in being behind schedule. We had delays, but it wasn't just because of them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciated their accessibility at all times and the ease in working with them. They are always open, willing to cooperate, ready to work, and exceptionally savvy on their platform.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They have a good staff, but the market for that kind of talent is competitive. There are not many people with their specialized talents and we are in a small market, so they’ve had a hard time keeping their talent.

We worked with 2–3 developers on their team, generally communicating with them on a bi-weekly basis through phone.

Someone recommended Invid to one of my colleagues, so we interviewed them and liked the proposal they presented the most compared to others we considered. Invid's frontend development work was instrumental in the outcome of our entire platform. Despite the challenges brought on by the recently devastating hurricane in Puerto Rico, Invid was able to wrap up their work very well.

After analyzing three company presentations, we selected INVID because they presented the most thorough strategy to fulfill our needs. Further, INVID provided ideas not originally considered, which helped us integrate additional information from clients for a better analysis during the evaluation of the mortgage transaction.

For us, the main impact was the time saved. We used to do everything manually. By creating reports with this platform, we saved a lot of time. It also had an economic impact, since we can bill more efficiently.

The platform also improved our quality control a lot by always alerting us to mistakes. If we schedule two therapies at the same time, it lets us know.

Being a design-build construction company, we had hundreds of thousands of documents for all of our projects but lacked a central platform to keep track of them. As such, we approached INVID to help us with our document management and collaboration infrastructure.

After an initial consultation, they implemented a SharePoint collaboration portal that allowed us to access all of our project information. They used Citrix to publish the platform, which could interact with our other construction applications. This included an internal LAMP framework that handled our HR needs, Oracle Primavera for document management, and Sage for accounting and estimation. They completed the project in several stages and currently provide ongoing development.

We work with three team members.

We chose them because they understood what we were trying to achieve and knew the platform. Compared with other consultants, they were a great fit; we collaborated well with them, and they were able to take our needs and translate them into strong solutions.

Instead of having people save their information to their individual PCs or in different folders on a server, they’ve provided us with centralized access to all of our information. The platform is searchable and facilitates collaboration, which is a game changer. As time passes, we’re able to adjust their services to our needs.

How did INVID perform from a project management standpoint?

Being project managers ourselves, we appreciate their approach. They use a critical path schedule and Microsoft Project to manage the engagement. Initially, we have a kick-off meeting to establish deadlines and define the scope of work. If there are any changes, they’re quick to communicate them and proactively look for ways to compensate for unforeseen delays.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team members have good people skills coupled with strong technical ability. This is essential in cultivating a healthy client-vendor relationship. They’re easy to talk to, and it’s been a pleasure to work with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It may be beneficial if they provided more day-to-day support for smaller tasks. For example, they could sell support packages with a limited number of visits per year or certain basic services to ensure that the client’s systems are up-to-date. This would help their customers while also being a continuous revenue stream.

It is a music museum so we conceptualized this tablet that allows the visitors to have an interactive experience and to listen to music using headphones while visiting the exhibitions. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with INVID, LLC?

Our main education client, which is Puerto Rico’s Department of Education, needed to administer an assessment of the students. Every year in May, the department runs a national test called Meta PR to measure how the students are doing in academic achievement. The new administration decided to develop a benchmark test to occur in February. This test assesses the students before the national test to allow the teachers time to take corrective action by working on the areas that need improvement in order to improve the national test results.

We sold the department the vision to do this test online for many reasons: to comport with the needs and habits of this new generation, to make it a more dynamic experience, to reduce the costs of logistics and printing, and finally, to have the results available faster to allow enough time to apply the corrective measures before the national test in May. Based on that vision, we hired INVID as our partner to develop this digital assessment platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

INVID was hired to build the platform for the online test and ensure that it could provide results in real time. It was developed completely on Microsoft Azure, which is our cloud platform. That was fundamental for us because the Department of Education already worked with Azure. It is a web application, integrated with Office 365, which is also used by the department. On Azure, it is also integrated with cognitive services, SQL Azure database, App Services, Azure Storage, Traffic Manager, Power BI for reporting and analytics, and Azure AD Premium, and Office 365.

What is the team composition?

I worked directly with their founder and a team of about 5–6 people.

How did you come to work with INVID, LLC?

We have been working with them for years. The president of INVID was an intern at Microsoft in Puerto Rico. His development expertise is exactly what we needed to create a new platform. We needed the platform to be completely customized and based on our client’s specific needs, and INVID’s specialty is custom development. We are familiar with their teamwork, and we know how professional and committed they are. From previous experience, we know they have a deep knowledge of our platforms and the skills and agility to do the work.

We invested about $25,000.

We worked with them from January–March 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The impact of this platform surpassed the monetary investment. The platform had no downtime, no bugs, and nothing to be corrected. It worked perfectly in all schools and was completely stable.

The fact that it was integrated with Office 365 was really powerful for us. It also helped us to achieve a goal we hadn’t been able to reach, which was activation of the Office 365 accounts for 17,000 students.

The test was available anywhere, anytime. Since it was a web form on Azure, even if we lost internet connection, the student could continue the test once we were back online.

They developed this in less than a week as the Department of Education required the test before they had initially indicated, and INVID adjusted for this. They placed a bigger team on the project and worked on weekends to have the project ready by this new deadline.

How did INVID perform from a project management standpoint?

Since the beginning of the project, they made sure they understood the project perfectly and made suggestions to improve our ideas. The communication was excellent in all media: calls, Skype, in office, WhatsApp, and text messages. We used an agile method. They checked in frequently to make sure everything was going well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It was great how they understood the client’s needs in record time. Even though they’re not experts on education, they developed a product that exceeded the client’s needs. That was the key.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. It was a difficult, almost impossible task, and they kept up with all the challenges and created a quality product. I am very thankful and happy with their work.
