App Dev, UI/UX Design & Branding for Healthcare Company

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m an executive at a company focused on integrating medical-grade sensors into everyday clothing to accelerate heart health research and advance personalized healthcare practices.
What challenge were you trying to address with Humantech Innovation & Technology Agency?
We needed help building two mobile apps and creating our brand identity.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Humantech has been helping us create our brand identity and develop two apps, one for Android and one for iOS. For the Android app, the team added functionality that can receive the data collected by our patented sensor technology, display it, and save it. The app has also helped us test our sensor technology.
Our ongoing projects are branding and the iOS app. For the branding, we gave Humantech a design brief where we reviewed our mission, vision, target end-users, the market, and demographic information. Based on that brief, the team presented mood boards and several options for communicating the brand. We did some A/B testing to select a brand identity from the options.
From there, they’ve created our logo and brand guidelines, which include how to implement the logo in several mediums like our website and social media. The guidelines also tell us how to communicate our brand documents, whether digital or on paper.
For the iOS app, the project involves UI/UX design. This app can also receive data from the sensor, display it in a user-friendly way, and additionally it can share that information with a provider or doctor. Humantech develops within their environment, then we take it to different environments and report back the product’s performance. The team has used Bitbucket and TestFlight for development and Figma for design.
What is the team composition?
The team composition has changed throughout the engagement. We started with a very large team, and now we’re working with a subset of that team.
How did you come to work with Humantech Innovation & Technology Agency?
We met the founders of Humantech through the network of one of our co-founders. We had a mutual interest in women’s health and advancing technology in this space, so we partnered together.
How much have you invested with them?
So far, we’ve spent just over $25,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in September 2019, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Since implementing the brand identity Humantech created for us, we’ve seen improved brand recognition. We’ve had at least a 25% increase in recognition on all platforms, including our social media, website, and press releases.
Our speed of projects has also increased about 40%. Humantech’s speed to delivery in UI/UX design for iOS has been great. We’re testing the app for user satisfaction based on focus groups, and it’s been doing really well.
Humantech recently rebranded, and we’ve been with them since before that change. They’ve evolved with us through that transition and have really built up to help us achieve our goals. Their ability to be transparent and communicate effectively has helped our relationship thrive across the multiple projects we’ve done with them.
How did Humantech Innovation & Technology Agency perform from a project management standpoint?
Humantech uses their own project management tools, and we use ours. For our collaboration, we use Google Workspace to share documents back and forth, and they use our Confluence. We use email, Slack, Zoom, Google Meet, and WhatsApp to communicate.
What did you find most impressive about them?
First and foremost, we appreciate our alignment with Humantech in caring for a world impact; we both want to make a change in women’s health. As an anecdote, one of our co-founders did a TED Talk, we had a watch party, and we invited the Humantech team. They were all very excited and cheering us on, waving their props and flags — it was very touching.
Secondly, they bring passion to the project. They’ve never once said they couldn’t do something; they’re always ready to find a solution, whatever it takes. Working with a startup like ours is always a tall order, and Humantech has never shuddered at being creative, proactive, and taking their passion for fulfilling their promise.
What distinguishes their work is that they bring a bright and attractive perspective on healthcare. While most healthcare apps look the same, using blue and white, Humantech was open to changing that trend. I really appreciate the work they’ve done and the lightheartedness they bring to healthcare.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The feedback we’ve already shared with them is that if they choose to take on more projects in the US related to healthcare, they should become more versed in the regulations here.
Although we’ve never asked them to learn the laws and regulations around mobile healthcare applications, they could be getting more projects from us if they did. This is something to be explored as they continue growing; it might already be in their pipeline. I’m excited for Humantech to grow in this way because it’s one area I’m confident they’ll thrive in and that we need.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
If you have a mobile application or brand identity project, the more information you have, the better. Humantech was able to absorb our design brief because it was very thorough; that information goes a long way when asking for a service.
Additionally, I’ve found that the best way to work with Humantech is to involve them as much as possible. The team is part of some of our sprints, our focus groups, internal R&D meetings, and as a result. This really helps them understand how the project impacts our organization and what we’re building for our customers. As a result, they’ve been able to play a big role in making recommendations.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
We have a really fluent communication. They managed to know what we needed right away and work really fast to have this platform live from the get-go. We have many ways of communication, we have a WhatsApp group and also they manage slack with some of my team members. The manage also support and they do the Knowledge transfer when I change teams also to manage the admin of the Ecommerce.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
They work fast and really good. they have a great team and love the design style. They really tried to understand what we needed and work on the delivery of solving the problem
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
there is always space for improvement. For example maybe improve their coordination with third parties, like visa/mastercard payment buttons or the online invoice integration.
