BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm a Product Manager at a remote work security company. We focus on securing work on any unmanaged device by isolating and separating work from personal use without virtualization.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with HTEC Group?
We needed to implement a comprehensive onboarding UX for our software, as our existing process was limited to a download and install page. We wanted a partner who could bring a fresh perspective and help us educate users more effectively.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
HTEC Group acted as a design partner, focusing on UX/UI design for our onboarding process. The team created a visual onboarding flow that could be integrated into our product, using Figma as the primary design tool. Our product is unique and can be confusing for end users, requiring a lot of handholding and live onboarding sessions.
We had an initial call to explain our goals and objectives, and gave HTEC Group a comprehensive overview of what we sought. We later had a kickoff call to align everything. During the discovery phase, the team conducted customer research and interviews.
We provided the team with customers to interview, material recordings from our onboarding, and a demo environment for them to walk through. We had an on-site two-day workshop as a brainstorming session with key stakeholders from our company and HTEC Group. The team primarily used Figma for the designs.
What is the team composition?
HTEC Group's team included a practice lead designer, a senior designer, a designer, a project manager, and an executive sponsor, whom we met with periodically. We also worked intermittently with HTEC Group's VP.
How did you come to work with HTEC Group?
We reached out to several companies and conducted interviews. We chose HTEC Group because we liked their pitching process, what they had to offer, and the initial impression they made on us.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested $100,000 in this project.
What is the status of this engagement?
The engagement started in May 2025 and wrapped up in July 2025.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Although we have not yet implemented the new onboarding experience and are just moving things into development, the quality of HTEC Group's work met our expectations. Even stakeholders who are typically critical were very satisfied with the designs, which matched exactly what they imagined for our onboarding process.
How did HTEC Group perform from a project management standpoint?
HTEC Group delivered work on time and on budget. Their communication and ability to adapt to our culture and style were outstanding. HTEC Group was highly collaborative and a fantastic partner to work with. We used Basecamp to share documents and files, and Slack to communicate in real time.
What did you find most impressive about them?
HTEC Group's creativity and adaptability stood out. Our product can become complex, but they distilled it to its simplest, most repeatable components and created something clean. We wanted a process that helped our users go through their daily work. Our software protects work, and we didn't want an education-heavy focus.
HTEC Group's subtle suggestions made a significant difference in creating a frictionless onboarding experience, and their collaborative approach stood out.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Initially, it would have helped if HTEC Group had demonstrated a deeper understanding of our technology and company upfront, especially given our concerns about the investment and product complexity. They recognized it was a sensitive topic for us and quickly adapted, but showing this understanding earlier would have eased our initial nervousness.
However, they communicated constantly and helped us be open, resulting in immediate adjustments. HTEC Group could push back more when a company loses focus and distracts them.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be as open and honest as possible throughout the engagement. This approach helped keep our project on track and ensured a positive outcome.
