The Wave | Website Re-Design
"We needed a website that was fit for purpose, unlike our old website which we were unable to make big development changes to. Our key goals were to improve the customer experience through better navigation and to have a website that better represented our brand." - Chloe, Marketing Manager at The Wave
Unlocking The Wave's website potential
"Hiyield helped us to decide on a new CMS (WordPress), worked with us to build a new site map, and created design examples for us to discuss and decide on" - Chloe Hughes, Marketing Manager at The Wave
Strong use of video and imagery
The most significant design choice was the use of videography and photography. This paved the way for the new web design, echoing the look and feel of the brand.
Increasing revenue through group bookings
The Wave team supplied a new Information Architecture, where the CTO of this project, Matt Ville, worked together with Chloe and the rest of the team to make sure no opportunity is missed.
A huge win that came out of the discovery phase was the opportunity for The Wave to increase bookings and revenue.
It was identified that bulk bookings are very valuable to the business. Therefore, a suggestion from Matt was to simply place a parent page called ‘Groups’ onto the main navigation bar. This enhanced visibility of bulk bookings that a user can purchase, such as Corporate Away Days, Venue hire or Educational Purposes.
Customising WordPress for ease of use
Once all the final emends of the design were signed off, it was time for development.
- PHP, HTML, CSS, JS
- WordPress
- Marvel for prototyping
- VSCode for Editor
The Wave's new online experience
The Wave’s new website is now live with an immersive design that reflects the onsite experience from the get-go!
Not to mention, Chloe and the Team at The Wave have complete control over their site, where they can create new pages for campaigns, run promotions, or even carry our A/B tests for better conversions.

Google | Carbon-free Energy 24/7 Website
Fast forward to a carbon-free energy future, 24/7
With the world at stake, COP26 in Glasgow only a few weeks away and key stakeholders behind this movement: Sustainability Energy For All, United Nations, UN Energy and Google, hired our good friends at Green House PR (a partnering agency of ours) to roll out the Carbon-free Energy 24/7 campaign and launch it at an event held at the COP26 2021 event.
The aim was simple. To create high impact messaging and get as many people as possible to sign up and back the movement.
With no time to lose, Green House PR brought us in to assist with this fast-paced project and contribute our digital design and development expertise.
The mission: educate and convert
- Educate the user about the Carbon-free Energy (CFE) 24/7 Initiative
- Get users to sign up for a mailing list
- Supply a tool kit that’s downloadable
Visually interesting, accessible and simple to roll out
Lead UX & UI Designer, Nick Voke, powered up his creative process and established two art direction routes for Google and other stakeholders to choose from.
The website for this campaign only needed to have one call to action for the users to take – they simply needed to register their interest by signing up.
From a UX perspective, it was clear to take a single page approach. This removes any noise from the website by minimising user navigation, keeping the user’s attention locked on the core message.
The 24/7 Carbon-free Energy campaign was launched at COP26.
The 24/7 Carbon-free Energy campaign was launched at COP26 in Glasgow. The campaign gained a significant amount of traction with hundreds of users flooding onto the landing page, and a high amount of sign-ups – a huge step in the right direction to eliminate carbon in our awesome world by influencing people and businesses to take action.

HealthPad | Digital Product
For a healthier, happier you.
HealthPad Founder, Jo Ramsden: “We seem to have stopped listening to our bodies in recent times and I am determined to create a tool to encourage people to become more aware of their health.”
Crowdfunding
The HealthPad team took swift action setting up their campaign on Crowdfunder.
People were loving their idea. Plus, they went on to win funding through CLLD grant, Cornwall Social Inclusion, and NatWest Back Her Business Fund.
What a result!
Playful, strong, optimistic
Before anything, Nick scheduled a one-to-one with Judith, which was praised by Jo saying, ‘Judith loved the session with Nick, where she was able to show some of the techniques they would use in the product, and through this Nick was brilliant at understanding what the product was about.’
Nick then crafted three branding identity design routes with a strong focus on three keywords: Playful, Strong, and Optimistic.
‘We wanted the app to be positive and easy to engage with. The visuals were spot on!’ - Jo Ramsden, HealthPad Founder
Building out the brand and mobile app
Complete branding pack
Nick created a set of assets full of typography, illustrations and colours.
User Experience (UX) core features:
- Sign up and sign in
- How to use the app introductory pages
- Four quadrants on a navigation bar: Change, Body, Breath, Mind
- Each quadrant to have a grid of assets on the page of voiceovers and a video following along
Development
The mobile app was developed using solely Google-based technologies: Dart, Flutter, and Firebase the database.
Launch day, 3rd November – National Stress Awareness Day
“What a great app! I have used various apps over the last few years to help me with my mental health and well being, but I have found HealthPad to be the most user friendly and effective of them all. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending people to use it – I particularly like the breathing exercises – they have been really helpful to me.” - N J Jones, App Store review

The Wave | Digital Transformation
The Wave team saw an opportunity to utilise technology to improve their processes. They had already implemented technologies to help operations run. However, they weren’t working effectively, straining the customer experience and causing inefficiencies.
What we delivered
The check-in solution - integrating technologies, building a Restful API, and a mobile web app.
Using the current systems: Viva ticket, Soap API and the XML feed The Wave already had in place, Our developers used Celery to convert their data into our own database. Then we built a bespoke Restful API that would retrieve and sort the correct for customers to check themselves in onsite.
We designed a bespoke UI for the check-in process with a seamless user experience so that customers’ first touchpoint at the wave is a delightful one.
The waiver system
As part of the booking service, the customer had to read and sign a waiver.
The Wave Team wanted to streamline this process and build a bespoke web app that would be easy to use for its customers and displayed on all devices.
Our developers built a new API pulling the necessary data from the VivaTicket API. This data was then pushed into a new responsive front end that he designed and built using Vue.js.
Improved sales through TV Screens
For marketing purposes, The Wave team added new tv screens around the site. The idea was to encourage surfers to rebook another surf session by displaying the next available slots.
To achieve this, our developers used a restful API to pull the correct information from the database. Using Tailwind he designed and built a new responsive front end UI that will adapt to any sized TV screen.
Technologies used:
- Language:
- Python
- Javascript
- CSS3
- HTML5
- Server-side: Django
- Client-side: Vue.js,
- CSS and UI: Tailwind CSS
- Backend Technology: Redis InMemory
- Database & Celery Message Queue
- Database: PostgreSQL

Alcumus | Enterprise Website
The need for control, flexibility, and scalability
“We reached a limit where we couldn’t optimise our existing website any further,” says Tom Bennison, Head of Digital Marketing at Alcumus. “We’ve acquired three companies in just the past 12 months, which required major website changes – we needed a system that could support that pace of growth.”
Alcumus also wanted to design effortless front-end experiences for its customers. The company wanted to boost its page loading speed to match Google’s ranking requirements, and remap its user journey to improve visitor navigation.
“We knew we needed the support of an external agency, and Hiyield was the perfect fit,” says Tom.
An intuitive new website built on WordPress with enterprise-grade hosting
Alcumus operated on Microsoft infrastructure, so naturally, its team leaned towards using a Microsoft platform for its CMS and website hosting. But after an in-depth Technical Discovery, the Hiyield team concluded that WordPress would better suit Alcumus’ needs.
“WordPress offers us complete flexibility and control over our website without any external development support,” says Tom. “Combined with enterprise-grade hosting, the platform offers the robustness and scalability we need to continue growing – plus, it’s much more cost-effective than the other options we considered.”
Complete control with room to grow
Alcumus and Hiyield built the website and migrated all of Alcumus’ existing content to its new CMS. Now, Alcumus has complete control over its website’s user journeys, covering every step from initial click to conversion, and helping its team create truly seamless user journeys.
“We were blown away by the professionalism and capabilities of Hiyield’s team. We were quite a demanding client, but Hiyield always kept up and made sure we stuck to our deadlines, often pushing us to ensure the end result was as good as it could be.” - Tom Bennison, Head of Digital Marketing, Alcumus

DEFRA | Progressive Web App Development
DEFRA wanted to figure out if a mobile app was a good way to engage the UK’s public about the Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMS).
What we delivered
Discovery session
Our UX designers, developers and members of the CWT team targeted audiences and carried out an empathy mapping exercise.
Gamifying the user experience with quizzes and collectable cards
Using the discovery findings, we finalised our idea. The concept would be to design a mobile app around nature reserves where users can ’Discover the sites near you'. Each site would have an overview of information, how to visit and a star rating up to five for nine natural capital categories.
We would also gamify the user experience by giving users the power to collect digital cards.
Mobile app wireframes & prototype
Our UI designer put together clickable wireframes to bringing the idea to life showing the intended features user journey.
Progressive web app development (PWA)
We chose to build the app as a PWA as this has many benefits, but most importantly flexibility to iterate and gain feedback keeping to our methodology Agile.
Key technologies:
- Nuxt.js
- Tailwind UI
- Prismic.io
- Netlify
Testimonial
“I would recommend the hiyield team to anyone. Excellent ethos, knowledge, technical capabilities and focus on our needed has perfectly matched our requirements to deliver complex projects to budget and time.”
- Martin Goodall (Manager)

xigxag | Web Design & Development
Within a month, xigxag's website gained 4.5x more clicks and 67x more impressions, going on to raise over £500k
"We wanted to have a dramatic improvement in our website, but we didn’t have the resources to do it ourselves. So, we decided to hire Hiyield to develop a professional website for us." – Kelli Fairbrother, CEO of xigxag
Discovering the busy individual
‘We started the project with a kick-off meeting, which involved discussing our company and our goals, followed by a mind-mapping session, wherein we really went into detail about our site’s target audience, what their needs were, and how we’re planning on fulfilling those needs.’ said Kelli.
This session uncovered their main user group: ‘The busy individual’ and secondary to this, a ‘Professional Retiree and the Visually Impaired’.
Every screen, just one click away
Nick stated a clear initiative for xigxag’s web design: to create a clean and simple website with easy navigation and to tell the story of xigxag.
The site was simple to navigate with every screen just one click away from another, as well as making sure there is a clear Call to Action (CTA).
A core feature was to have a page that represents a catalogue of all the books the mobile app has to offer. Here, Nick designed a page with an intuitive scroll animation, along with the option for the user to ‘Browse by genre’.
High flexibility & API development
Hiyield set up two APIs that made it possible to automatically pull the title, cover and description of over 30,000 books in their mobile apps database, and display them on the website.
xigxag gained 4.5x more clicks and 67x more impressions
“We’re really pleased with how the site turned out. We’re already seeing the impact of Hiyield’s work — we saw almost 4.5x more clicks and 67x more impressions from our site within a month."
"They provided great value for our money. They deliver high-quality work at a lower price, which we think is one of the biggest benefits” – Kelli Fairbrother, CEO of xigxag

GoCollaborate | Digital Product
Startup GoCollaborate is empowering communities to contribute towards their neighbourhood development plans, leaving no one behind through a bespoke web app.
Our experience at building Minimum Viable Products (MVP) with a user-centred approach was exactly what the GoCollaborate team were looking for.
What we delivered
Research & planning
The key challenge here was to build a product that appeals to this large demographic, where it is engaging enough for the younger generation and made simple enough so that less technologically advanced users can use it.
Defining the functionality
A User Front End: This would be everything that a member of the public would see and use.
- User Login / Password
- Landing page for each NDP (this MVP would be for Portreath)
- Clear platform explainer (how it works)
Admin dashboard: A bespoke login page for the GoCollaborate team
- Setup functionality
- Allow data extracts
Wireframes & branding
With the research, discovery and a primary plan complete, it was time for our UX & UI designer to put together a set of wireframes for the product.
The build
We built GoCollaberate on our preferred stack – a headless RESTful API delivering core app functionality, with a secondary GraphQL API for delivering content from our preferred cloud content delivery solution (prismic.io), which implements it’s own querying language. Our front end application is built upon Vue / Vuex / VueRouter / Apollo / VuePrismic. This is deployed using Netlify, with “pre-rendering” and bundle optimisation baked into our deployment and serving process
Technologies used:
- Postgres Database
- Python Django API Layer with token-based authentication
- TailwindCSS framework
- Mapbox
- Vue.js/Nuxt.js
- Tailwind UI
- Leaflet.js
- Digital Ocean hosting
A tech partnership
The product is now ready for phase two where it will be released to the next area where we continue to work closely with GoCollaborate addressing any problems and making the product even better!

The Wave | Micro Website
With the 21 beautiful tents pitched up, The Wave team briefed us on a brand new microsite. It will be the central source of displaying their new venture and seamlessly helping customers book their stay.
What the project required:
- Quick time scale
- It needs to beautifully present The Camp
- Integrate a booking system (Anytime Booking)
- Have a custom calendar widget
What we delivered
UX & UI design
Users were central to designing The Camp at The Wave’s website. The information architecture was designed to be effortless for the users to explore The Tents, the entire The Wave Experience and to book. The user journey was simply divided into two pages with clear call to actions throughout the site, helping funnel users through a new journey to book a stay at The Camp at The Wave.
The build
With a tight timescale, we had three of our top developers working away at The Camp at The Wave website. It was built for WordPress using Guttenberg Editor so content can easily be populated and managed by The Wave team.
- WordPress & its Guttenberg Editor
- Standard HTML, CSS, PHP
- Custom calendar widget
- Responsive design
Testimonial
“We worked with hiyield to build a microsite for the launch of our brand new campsite. We had a tight timescale to work with but the process smooth every step of the way. Hiyield felt like an extension of our team. We were ready to be inundated with questions from our customers but this didn’t happen, which is a real testament to the usability of the microsite. We’ve had great feedback from both customers and internal stakeholders. We’re now looking forward to working with hiyield on our next project.”
Chloe (Marketing Manager)

Kraken Marketing | Bespoke WordPress Website
Kraken Marketing is a revolutionary digital marketing agency that beats the boring and combats the mind-numbingly dull.
Kraken Marketing was looking for a team that would give her the tools to create a website that communicated Kraken Marketings message, and we couldn’t wait to help her unleash the beast.
What we delivered
Discovery session
We outlined the objectives of the site and got to work at understanding the Krakens users and the journey they will take.
UX & UI Desgin / Web design
Out of the discovery session, we nailed a plan of action, where our designer put together wireframes consisting of a five-page site.
We got to work designing a web design based on Lyssa’s messaging and user research. The results came in that were a punchy Kraken inspired design.
WordPress web development
The site’s design uses Guttenberg Blocks, a brilliant Method where you can combine Design Patterns to create a very flexible page layout. This gives Lyssa full control in editing the layout of her site. Also, we created a bespoke WYSIWYG that had all of her brand iconographies so there is effortless visibility to what Lyssa creates in the back end of her site.
An eye-catching bespoke design gets the best results
The site was built and Lyssa hammered away at populating content before pushing the site live! As Kraken Marketing would say, it was totally badass! The site had a punchy purple on the colour pallet that drew attention to key areas within the site, it had bold typefaces, some that were sailor-inspired, and an immersive design that no user would forget!

the review
The client submitted this review online.
Please describe your company and your position there.
I'm one of the founders of BCS, the digital built asset consultancy
For what projects/services did your company hire Hiyield, and what were your goals?
Our website was created 6 years ago and at that time was very different in presentation to our competitors. Over the intervening years, it has become copied in style and is now one of many that are similar. As we are not experts in web development, we hired Hiyield to develop a Wordpress site for us that would help us stand out once more and increase our brand awareness.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We undertook a websearch and shortlisted 3 companies based on feedback and examples of their work. We conducted interviews and as equally important as track record was how they proposed to work with us and understood our requirements
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
We had a kick off meeting to map out timeframes and deliverables. From this plan, the team delivered mock-ups and wireframes for the new site. At each stage, our key people were afforded the opportunity to comment with these comments being integrated where appropriate.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
A project manager, Laura, was our main point of contact through weekly touchpoint meetings. At key stages, various specialists were introduced taking us through specific points on the development cycle and clearly articulating what was required from us and patiently listening to and answering our questions.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
There is a greater clarity in the services we provide and the website as a whole set us apart from our competitors. We have seen an increase in traffic and longer interactions on our pages
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
As stated above
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
Their patience in answering our questions in a non patronising way! The whole interaction with them was a pleasurable experience
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
We had a few minor bugs, some of which were picked up by themselves, but these were dealt with quickly and efficiently

Please describe your company and your position there.
I work for The Wave, an inland surf destination, we are a leisure and sports facility with on-site glamping.
For what projects/services did your company hire Hiyield, and what were your goals?
We hired Hiyield to completely refresh our website. We needed a website that was fit for purpose, unlike our old website which we were unable to make big development changes to. Our key goals were to improve the customer experience through better navigation and to have a website that better represented our brand.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We had previously worked with Hiyield on other projects and we were really happy with the working relationship and felt Hiyield understand our goals and ways of working well.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
Hiyield already had a good existing knowledge of how our company worked and what we were looking for which helped the process. Hiyield helped us to decide on a new CMS (WordPress), worked with us to build a new site map, created design examples for us to discuss and decide on and then ultimately went on to develop the new website for us.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
I'm unsure of exactly how many people worked on this project for us, I'd estimate 5 to 7, including project managers, developers, designers, and user experience experts.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
We are still in the process of measuring the key outcomes of the project such as site traffic and conversion, however, we have a lot of anecdotal evidence that the project has been a success including customer and stakeholder feedback.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
I already had a good working relationship with Matt at Hiyield which helped the process. Early on the project, we had meetings with Matt and other key members of our internal team to keep on top of the project and what was needed at what stage. I knew throughout that I could count on Matt to answer quickly any questions that I might have or keep me updated on the project.
Matt used our own internal communication tools (Teams) for this which helped me. Once we got into the development stage of the project we used Productive which was a great way for me to communicate any issues, bugs or questions I might have with the wider development team.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
Hiyield really did their best to understand our needs as a business, and they felt like an extension of our team. They're also happy to question our ideas when needed, which is helpful for our team.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
There was a period of time when the communication wasn't working correctly through the Productive tool, as soon as this was identified by Hiyield this was resolved and didn't happen again.

Web Dev, Design & SEO for Audiobook Startup
“I really appreciated how responsive Hiyield was to our feedback and requests.”
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of Xigxag, a small, UK-based audiobook startup.
What challenge were you trying to address with Hiyield?
We wanted to have a dramatic improvement in our website, but we didn’t have the resources to do it ourselves. So, we decided to hire Hiyield to develop a professional website for us.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Hiyield designed and developed an audiobook catalog website for us. We started the project with a kick-off meeting, which involved discussing our company and our goals, followed by a mind-mapping session, wherein we really went into detail about our site’s target audience, what their needs were, and how we’re planning on fulfilling those needs.
During that time, Laura (Project Manager) set up a Google Drive in which we shared assets that might be relevant for them to review, such as our brand guidelines, sketch templates, and logos. We also gave them access to our app because we wanted the site to be consistent with the app’s branding and visual design. They then sent us mock-ups for different pages as well as design examples for what the visuals would look like.
During the development process, Hiyield did some SEO for our catalog pages and set up our APIs to link over 30,000 books into the site, filling all of the pages based on the metadata that we provided them. They also built a site map, which allows us to have Google Index so that we’d show up in search results.
Throughout the project, we did some back and forth iterations; they would send us designs, we’d sign off on them, and then their development team would make the appropriate changes.
As of now, the website is already live, but we’re still having them do a bit of follow-up work for the site. They’re also handling the site’s hosting for us going forward.
What is the team composition?
We worked with four people from Hiyield in total: Matt (CTO), the technical lead of the project, Laura, the project manager, and Neil (Digital Experience Lead), and Nick (UI & UX Lead), who were in charge of the site’s UX and UI design, respectively.
How did you come to work with Hiyield?
Our co-founder was introduced to Hiyield by someone from Cornwall, which is where Hiyield is based. We decided to give them an opportunity to work on this project because we really wanted to support local businesses.
We set up a meeting with them and right off the bat, they seemed really credible and they understood what we wanted to do with our site. They also showed us a couple of great projects that they’d done in the past, which made us feel like they would be a good fit for us.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent around £22,000 in total (approximately $30,000 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked on the website from June–October 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’re really pleased with how the site turned out. We’re already seeing the impact of Hiyield’s work — we saw almost 4.5x more clicks and 67x more impressions from our site within a month. So far, we’ve only indexed 17% of our site's pages, so we are expecting those numbers to still increase.
How did Hiyield perform from a project management standpoint?
Hiyield performed really well. They kept us updated with their progress throughout the project. I appreciated how hands-on they were — they always delivered everything that we asked for really quickly.
We initially communicated with them through email, but we mainly used Productive once we got to the project’s development phase. It’s a collaborative tool that helped us effectively track the project and communicate the changes that we wanted to be made.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I really appreciated how responsive Hiyield was to our feedback and requests. They were always willing to work with us and accommodate the changes that we wanted to make to the site. It was really exciting to watch their progress and how they were bringing the site to life through each iteration.
They provided great value for our money. They deliver high-quality work at a lower price, which we think is one of the biggest benefits of working with a local company.
Finally, they were just really lovely people, and we really enjoyed working with them. They made this entire project a very painless experience for us, which was exactly what we needed.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We did feel that the collaborative tool that we used made it somewhat harder for us to keep a trail of knowledge. We’re a technical company, so we would have preferred if they’d provided a repository of information that we needed. That would have made getting answers and assigning people to certain tasks easier.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure to invest some time up front to explain what you’re trying to accomplish. Another thing that would be really helpful is to be responsive and engaged throughout the process.
