Although it was a challenging task to align three ambitious founders on company branding, HAPPY have setup an iterative agile process to elaborate on every important aspect we had. Every step was consulted with examples and several options of potential design direction were provided.

In March 2021, we decided to create our foundation. We needed to develop a brand identity. It was essential for us to understand how all these great ideas that we discussed with our partners could be transformed in such identity. How did you select this vendor?
We conducted thorough market monitoring before contacting HAPPY. We negotiated with various regional companies, mainly Ukrainian. After a series of interviews, we decided to work with HAPPY because they work not only with the commercial sector. The experience of their cooperation with our partners was another decisive factor for us. This made us understand that HAPPY has experience collaborating with companies in non-profit organizations. The HAPPY portfolio looked like having answers to our questions.

We cooperated with HAPPY from July 2021 until March 2022, which is almost a year. We are currently in contact with the website developer, who is still maintaining our project and responding to our inquiries. In this case, such project duration is a benefit for cooperation. We were in no hurry. We had time to think everything through, to try it out step by step.

We had to start from scratch, but we cooperated in synergy. We already had a developed internal strategic plan, but it was not translated into the language of representation. I'm the CEO of a software development company that provides a wide range of software development and QA services. We've been in business for six years, working mainly with clients in the US and Europe.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with HAPPY?
We wanted to position ourselves better online to help us get more clients, so we needed someone to create unique branding work for our company, including website designs.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We didn't have a good idea of what our branding should look like, so HAPPY first prepared different mood boards to help us determine what we needed. We also shared our vision for the brand.
The team then gave us some design options, and we selected those that best reflected our company. A teammate also helped us to draft our mission statement, core values, and vision.
Their deliverables include a new logo and a brand book detailing colors, fonts, and so on. The HAPPY team created custom fonts specifically for our company. In addition, they also made sure that the designs reflected our love for Star Wars.
To test out the branding, they conducted a focus group discussion. Afterward, they presented the results to us and helped us launch the new brand.
HAPPY also designed merchandise for us, including t-shirts, posters, notebooks, and so on. The team created several versions of social media banners and other graphics.
After they completed the branding project, we tasked them with redesigning our website. HAPPY studied our previous website and interviewed us to learn more about our vision, needs, and customers' feelings about our current site. They're currently still working on the website design.
What is the team composition?
We've worked with 3–4 designers on branding and website design. Each teammate has had differing specialties.
How did you come to work with HAPPY?
Someone recommended HAPPY and said they were a good design agency. We interviewed them to see if they could meet our needs, and they talked to us to gather information.
We then worked in partnership with the team on a few projects. In one of our previous projects, the HAPPY team helped us provide design work while we handled the technical development.
How much have you invested with them?
We've spent around $11,000–$12,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our project started in November 2019, and it's ongoing. The branding phase took 3–4 months to complete. We're currently working with HAPPY on the website.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
2020 was hard for us, but we're on our way to launching the site. We're happy with the team's fantastic work — the design is colorful and unique.
With their help, we've also managed to increase our Facebook and Instagram followers to around 1,000. We're also getting about 400 profile visits per day.
Additionally, their work on our mission statement has helped us a lot.
How did HAPPY perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project management is perfect. We always know when each part is due, and the team always delivers on schedule.
HAPPY is clear about their progress and keeps us up to date all the time. We're aware of every step of the design process, from preparation to creation.
We communicate via phone calls and in-person meetings. Additionally, we use Facebook messenger.
What did you find most impressive about them?

There are many software development companies in Lviv, and they all have almost the same branding. They also have similar sites and strategies. HAPPY's unique work sets us apart from those vendors, and we're thrilled.

Project had several stages. We and Happy had a couple of meeting dedicated to Discovery stage: Briefing, setting business goals for the project, analyzing competitors. We had a couple of workshops dedicated to Brand Strategy and character of the brand. The next stage was: searching for visual communication techniques that will convey the key idea of the brand. HAPPY designed logo, graphic elements, picked color palette and typography also did a navigation for our space. Designed and developed a landing page.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I represent two organizations; one of them is a nonprofit, while the other is an LLC. These two organizations are connected. The for-profit organization is Harald Binder Cultural Enterprises, which was founded by a philanthropist to enhance Ukraine’s cultural sector, creative industries, and art and culture education.
The company is renovating an industrial building where a new art center called The Jam Factory Art Center will be located. This NGO deals with contemporary art, theater, visual art, and music. We operate internationally in different directions, and our projects are connected to important topics in various disciplines.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with HAPPY Design?
We needed a website and a branding strategy for our organization that should reflect our vision and mission. It was crucial for us to have a brand and a relevant web platform where we could communicate and organize all the complicated structures that we had.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We started with the vision and mission of our organization and spent time discussing what it meant for us. To do that, HAPPY Design created a questionnaire that other leaders and I answered. The questionnaire had unusual questions, which were crucial for understanding how we felt for the company. Overall, these questions helped their team come up with a way to move forward with our branding.
HAPPY Design also tried to find a customized approach to our branding. They created visuals and produced a number of designs and logos, which we also discussed internally. Once we approved the logo, they came up with a strategy around how the rest of the branding should look like.
When that was finished, they gave us another questionnaire, which was in turn about the website. Apart from developing the site, they also provided mock-ups for its design. We were only starting out and had a limited number of activities, so in the beginning, we only requested a simple page. Later on, we started doing plenty of activities as they developed the website, so we changed our requirements until we reached a more complex iteration of the site.
We’ll be launching next year, so we’ll be developing a much more complicated website, which will display the sales of our tickets, the products we’ll be producing, and many other things and features on our system. We’re currently on the third version of the website, and it now contains plenty of information covering our activities. HAPPY Design has been structuring all of the said activities while highlighting the most important ones.
What is the team composition?
We’ve worked with one director and two project managers so far in the engagement. A designer and a programmer have also worked on the project with us.
How did you come to work with HAPPY Design?
A reference recommended HAPPY Design, along with other companies that were much bigger than them. However, we chose their team because they listened to us and were willing to adapt to what we wanted. They didn’t propose an ordinary or standard solution, and that was a big deal for us — we’re not an ordinary organization; we’re about art.
Other companies also integrated artistry, but oftentimes, they offered a standard way of solving things. By contrast, HAPPY Design was ready to customize their processes for what we wanted. On top of that, their prices were good, fair, and transparent. It was important for us to have a preliminary calculation of the cost, so they provided us with a preview of such estimates based on what we wanted.

So far, we’ve spent less than $8,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together on this project in December 2017, and the engagement is ongoing. However, we’re on break. We’re thinking about new, more complicated tasks.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
After launching the website, the number of website visitors increased a lot. In general, we like their designs, and many users have positive feedback about them, which is also important for us. Overall, we’ve received no negative feedback about their work on our brand.
How did HAPPY Design perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project management is almost perfect. We’ve had some difficulties, but they’re responsive. We’ve also had issues with the first project manager, but they’ve resolved that quite quickly. Moreover, when we have website difficulties, their support is always there. If they can’t figure out something, they’ll inform us.
At the beginning of the engagement, we had physical meetings. Later on, we’ve communicated mostly over emails, which is our request. Currently, we conduct meetings either online or in-person if necessary, such as when we want them to present their work.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They have a very humane approach to the project. From the very beginning, they’ve been searching for a way to adapt to our needs and listen to us. On top of that, their communication distinguishes them from other providers. They listen carefully to us to find a solution for our needs. They always fulfill their job in the best way they can.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Not all of their managers speak fluent English, and we’re an international organization. Given that, we’ve had some difficulties with the first project manager, which was solved when we switched to another manager. They might learn something from this experience.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be frank and say what you want because the HAPPY Design team is good at understanding and structuring your goals. If you’re not afraid of expressing what’s necessary and explaining frankly, they’ll understand you well — they’re quite good at catching what’s important.

WHITE Dental Group sells dental implants to dental clinics all over Ukraine. We import products from Switzerland and distribute and market them here. I’m the founder and CEO of the company, but I can also say I’m the CMO, since I’m responsible for marketing as well.

What challenge were you trying to address with HAPPY Design?
I work in the medical premium segment, which is strict. It generally has a very classical approach to marketing, and we wanted ours to be absolutely different. We wanted our marketing to be emotional, so the main difference for our approach was to take our dentist customers and see them as humans.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
In the beginning, we worked with HAPPY Design to create the branding of the new company. I just had the name and vision, and they helped me to do the whole vision of the brand. Our second project was the design of our website and Facebook visual content. Right now, we’re working together on the marketing concept for the direct patient, which is a very exciting new project.
We work on a 50/50 basis because I’ve actually worked at this for more than 20 years and someone else might not understand much about the field. However, they’ve done additional research, interviews, and test groups for our ideas.
For the website, we followed their recommendations as to what technology to use. The main feature we looked for was usability. We’re a complex company with a lot of different products, so we wanted the site to be easy to navigate and find our services. Another important point was to have a sales approach that wasn’t aggressive. Thus, adding selling points in the right place and being able to collect as much revenue as possible was something difficult to achieve.
What is the team composition?
We work with 5–6 people altogether. We have a project manager, who is responsible for the design, and we have someone in charge of optimization.
How did you come to work with HAPPY Design?
They were recommended to me. In our country, recommendations still work, especially in the design area. After that, I saw their portfolio and was really impressed by the quality of their work. Ukrainian design is usually quite limited, and I liked their approach, creativity, and sense of color. I just understood that they were the right company for me.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $20,000–$25,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
I’ve worked with HAPPY Design for more than five years on some other projects. With WHITE Dental Group, we started working with them in June 2019, and the relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Since it’s a matter of design, it’s difficult to measure impact, but our results translated into an absolutely new project. We started two years ago, and we’re currently leading the market. If someone does a review of our company, they’ll list innovative design and communication as our key advantages, besides our service. Even during the pandemic, when everything was blocked, we got our leadership position thanks to our visual communication.
How did HAPPY Design perform from a project management standpoint?
I like their system because we have a project manager dedicated to us who is always in contact. The team joins meetings when it’s necessary. They always give us the right information before we start. They tell us how long it'll take them to deliver results, and they’re always correct and in time.
We mostly use Zoom to do regular team meetings. I also have people in my team who are responsible for the project. After the meetings, we do a small report and a follow-up according to them.
We also have access to a designer, which is good for us. In other companies, they often assign you a project manager, and then you don’t talk to anyone else.
What did you find most impressive about them?
HAPPY Design understands what I need. They understand my customer’s needs and my needs as the owner of the company. In the Ukrainian market, you can receive thousands of drastic proposals, but they don’t match what you need. They’ve been fast and precise on that, and that’s their main advantage.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They sometimes take too long to deliver, and I would like to have faster results. In marketing or visual design, we need flexibility in time, especially considering the way our world changes every day. Aside from that, we’re quite happy.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
In design, you have to be very precise about what you want; it helps you to get your result as fast as possible. If you don’t have the exact information, they can help you understand better.

What was the scope of their involvement?
They built everything that had to do with our brand from the logo to our color palette to our website design. The website was existing when they came on to do the work. They were tasked with creating a design that could be implemented on top of the existing site. It was an iterative process, during which they presented us with three design possibilities. We narrowed it down together from there.

I worked with their CEO, project manager, and designer.

We had already worked with them in the past, had great references for them, and knew they were good at what they do. There was no question when it came to our decision to hire them.

Our landing page is the face of our company and often the first thing of ours that our clients will see. The digital presence they provided helped us clearly communicate our mission and services to potential clients. We also have a blog on our site, which invites tons of inbound traffic to our website. They also made it easy for clients to connect and request an initial call with us.
How did HAPPY Design perform from a project management standpoint?
We didn’t know anything about the design process or branding, so they held our hand throughout the entire process. They asked us tons of questions about our company and explained the value behind their approach to branding strategies. Before diving into the design, they did a great deal of research, which proved to be effective in managing the project further down the road.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re energetic, straightforward people who communicate very clearly with us. I truly enjoyed our relationship and was energized by working with them by the end of the project. The collaboration process was great.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Their design work is amazing, but I was expecting the timeline to be a little bit shorter. They aim for perfection, though.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I’d recommend them to novices in the branding and design space. You don’t have to be an expert in the field to collaborate with them and really understand their processes. That’s because they’re willing to walk you through each step. Reach out to them— they give great advice.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the owner of Artful Bits IT AB, an independent IT consulting firm for bigger vendors on the Swedish market.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with HAPPY Design?
We needed professional graphic design work for one of my clients, a small startup that was highly concentrated on small business activities. It was really important for their website to have a “wow effect” so that people would recognize and remember the brand.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
HAPPY Design helped with branding, logo, and web design for a business starting from zero. One designer was involved in creating the branding, unique logo, and color palette. They identified the key identity things of the brand. The second designer was more involved in the website design itself.
After we identified the brand materials, HAPPY Design put that into a complete prototype that’s very close to production. It gave quite a good idea of how the website would function and how the design responds to user actions. We use the prototype to collect feedback from our client on how they like the design, if the ordering process is easy, and whether they understand all the concepts.
It’s been quite an iterative process. Every week, we have quite a big session where HAPPY Design gathers our comments, offers ideas, and promotes the best practices that exist in the market. They help us to identify the pieces from different sources that build the brand.
We have more or less defined the brand book. We’ve done the primary design, the MVP, and the target book testing. We also have brand materials that would go in each ordered box, such as flyers and catalogs that connect customers to the client’s website.
The next thing coming is social media. HAPPY Design will develop templates for us that we can use for publishing photo-heavy content on Instagram and Facebook. We’ve identified Instagram as our client’s primary sales channel. Together, we post food photography content that HAPPY Design processes and styles to look alike. We expect to continue working with them to update our social strategy and content.
What is the team composition?
HAPPY Design has three designers I communicate with.
How did you come to work with HAPPY Design?
Around 10 years ago, the owner of HAPPY Design worked for my company. Six years ago, I moved to Sweden, and he started his own company at the same time. I knew him as a very professional designer that does good work. When I asked him to help with design, he promised to allocate his best people to me.
He demonstrated a really new level of doing things that I never saw before. His company meets up with designers all over the country. They have very good speakers that represent the best practices and ideas. HAPPY Design learns quite a lot from that.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent €3,500 (approximately $3,900 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in October 2019, and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They’ve done an excellent job defining our client’s brand identity. We already did two tests on our target groups. For the first test, HAPPY Design gave us a presentation for the brand that I showed to several of our customers. We wanted to see if they liked the approach, branding, and colors; we specifically tested to see if they associate our client’s brand with ideal traits and if it gives them the feeling of happiness.
The second test used the MVP website that HAPPY Design made for us. They used a web constructor’s platform that loads quickly. It isn’t perfect for running the business, but it’s super useful for prototyping, testing, and collecting user feedback. We ran the test with around 600 people, and the feedback we got was quite good. Everybody said they liked the design and that it felt unique and recognizable. The client has been quite happy about it.
How did HAPPY Design perform from a project management standpoint?
We have interactive video call sessions through Skype. When we discuss ideas, they immediately give us some presentation materials that they prepare for each session. Their preparation is always professional. They guide us through the process of developing the design while understanding we’re not 100% fully allocated. They try to be very flexible and adjust to our schedule. I’m really happy I chose them.
From the management side, HAPPY Design tries to be scrum developers with deliveries every week, which is great. Sometimes they look a little forward and make guesses about what we need without asking us first. However, the communication is great: we can ping them on any messenger, and they reply almost immediately. I’m happy with that.
What did you find most impressive about them?
HAPPY Design helps us organize our ideas about the brand. They guided us during the first four weeks of the process to collect all the puzzle pieces. We didn’t know how the brand should look. We agreed on color, but we didn’t agree about the name of the brand, the structure, and how we should represent the things. Thanks to HAPPY Design, we defined the brand and settled on a finished concept. They really got our ideas and have helped bring them to life in the right way.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We give HAPPY Design quite a lot of freedom in deadlines. They deliver in faster time than we expected, but sometimes we feel their work isn’t complete. On occasion, they give us draft ideas to show something they’re working on and provide us with something to test. In those cases, the idea is good but arrives too unfinished for us to accept. HAPPY Design needs to put a little more effort before showing it to us.
Additionally, they focus on too many things. They should narrow what they’re providing and differentiate the communication that they have with the different people for each job.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be very concrete about your business processes: how you make the sales, how you want to do that, and who your target audience is. Define those activities before you start working with them. HAPPY Design doesn’t involve any business analysts in the project; they only provide graphic designers. Instead, I showed them how my client’s business sequence work: how the customer makes the orders, how the customer found out about my client, what the client expects from the customer, what the customer expects in return, and more.
