Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the project manager and owner of Daikon Construction Inc. and we build QSR restaurants and other commercial spaces for tenants.

What challenge were you trying to address with Hager Design International Inc?

We needed someone to support our architectural and interior design efforts.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Hager Design International is a partner for two of our restaurants, where they help with the new construction and rental for both franchises in western Canada.

The process starts with the scouting of a suitable location for the restaurant. Once that’s done, Hager Design will then develop the design for that space and submit the necessary permits to the municipality. They will then put their designs up for bid where I would present them to several contractors.

What is the team composition?

My main point of contact is Karl (Partner).

How did you come to work with Hager Design International Inc?

They were actually chosen by the franchises I work with.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing partnership started in July 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’ve been working with Hager Design for three years and I trust them to succeed in accomplishing what needs to be done.

How did Hager Design International Inc perform from a project management standpoint?

Hager Design is the only company I’ve worked with that comes down to our sites to walk us through the most effective ways to resolve issues. They constantly meet deadlines and minimize the number of overages to clients regarding extra costs and illustration revisions.

I personally use Microsoft Project for scheduling and communicating with my clients, and AutoCAD or printed documents with Hager Design.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What distinguishes them from other providers is the quality of their work — they do their homework and deliver the appropriate outcome.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only thing I would want is an additional site visit before the development starts, because everything that’s going to be a problem could probably be addressed in the beginning.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would advise exhibiting directness, honesty, and being more collaborative in your engagement with Hager Design.

I’m an executive at a residential development company. We specialize in everything from sourcing a piece of land to going through the city’s rezoning and development permit application processes.

What challenge were you trying to address with Hager Design International Inc?

We needed someone to help us build what we wanted to see and present in one of our projects.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Hager Design International Inc was the interior designer for one of our constructions. After our architect developed a set of planes, they came in and worked with our team to choose the kind of materials we used on walls, floors, and ceilings. They also assisted us in picking the right furniture to place and other interior design responsibilities.

In addition to that, they also made interior design efforts for our sales center. They provided us with what we were looking for; at the beginning of the project, we shared what we were looking for in terms of designs and market target, and they were able to come up with something that was best suited for us.

What is the team composition?

We mainly dealt with Doris (Founder) and Karl (Senior Interior Designer), but more people from their team were working behind the scenes.

How did you come to work with Hager Design International Inc?

They were referred to us by someone who worked with them in the past.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $150,000 with them on this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from January 2018–January 2020. We had to put the partnership on hold, but we’ll resume the engagement soon enough.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They were efficient and provided great designs for us. Our team was satisfied with their work, and we’ve also recommended them for other projects.

How did Hager Design International Inc perform from a project management standpoint?

They were efficient in that area; Hager Design kept the project going and were also flexible in looking for viable solutions for us in terms of budget. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have quick turnaround times and stay on top of things. Also, you can see that they put a lot of thought into their detailed drawings — I think those are their high-level features.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on — I was happy with their service.

Any advice for potential customers?

Be clear on your needs from the beginning so that their entire design team can help you. Ensure a mutual understanding of what you want, and they’ll deliver as requested.
