The first iteration of the App Store launched in 2008. I was fortunate to be at the right place at the right time and was instrumental in launching my organization’s first app and many more since. If you were in the app growth space during those early years you know it was a time like no other.

By 2015/16 app exposure started to get challenging as the competitive landscape grew. It was around this time that I began to investigate App Store Optimization, (ASO) as a viable marketing strategy.

With the understanding that incorporating ASO into the marketing mix was the only way to drive organic growth and access to mobile keyword data was the only fuel; I sought out organizations with this expertise and Gummicube rose to the top of the list quickly.

Increase exposure, impressions, conversions and installs of our app.

App Store Optimization, (ASO): The process begins w/a kick off call designed to give Gummicube the opportunity to learn about your app. They'll go over the features and benefits, your competition, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

Gummicube uses their proprietary software to analyze your app's performance in the app stores and circles back with proposed app title, subtitle, short description, long description and keywords based on their findings. This is a collaborative process.

Gummicube also has a creative team that will design and optimize your app's screenshots for the best conversion results. After the app is live in the app store and has indexed, Gummicube will send a full report of the app's impressions, conversion and install performance. This report informs the next steps as ASO is an iterative process. Not meant to be a one and done.

Apple Paid Search (ASA) - the Gummicube team will launch a campaign and assist with optimizing throughout the remainder of your budget.

We were looking to increase our conversion from impressions to downloads, and essentially increase our revenue.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

Gummicube was the most data-driven from all the vendors we interviewed. And cost effective for our company.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

They built new screenshots, going through a few iterations. They also A/B tested titles and subtitles. Constantly updating our metadata so our search improved. Also did some facebook marketing for us including creating content, targeting, headlines, etc. They also built a storyboard for our video to App Store.

What was the team composition?

We always had 3 people on the call: 1 the founder, and 2 project managers. They were always on time, consistant with the people we interacted with and always had a deck/presentation and follow up regarding our meeting.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our app now looks more beautiful in the App Store! Our screenshots improved, our icon is more dynamic and overall we feel our app improved a lot from the start to the end.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We received emails almost on a daily basis. There was always updates regarding our upcoming calls and summaries. There were presentations and visuals for our meetings and data to describe movement of downloads, impressions, etc. Always follow up post call and other emails throughout the week.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They were super organized. They were great with timelines and executed the project step by step. I always knew what they were working on and received results within 2 weeks with their data.
