• Holiday Awareness: Use effective channels and placements to reach target audience during holiday season. The primary tactic is video. Tasks include evaluating TV demographics and sales by market, digital geo-targeting, testing single-image Instagram ads, and evolving display to rich media and preroll.
• Consumer Direct Response: Focus on driving conversions through specific calls to action. Tasks include eCommerce DSP research and analysis, mobile rich media creative research and analysis, shoppable and dynamic creative research and analysis, search budget evaluation, Facebook creative research, and a 6-week test with a new media partner.
• Corporate Direct Response: Target corporate decision-makers to promote our product as a corporate gift during Q4 holiday season. • Consumer DR Campaign: ROAS improved by 8% YoY
• Corporate DR Campaign: Over 93% of search traffic was new visitors

GMW are experts at project management. Campaigns are executed successfully and efficiently. They establish clear objectives in the Scope of Work and Recommendation phase. The outline specific tasks, timelines, and milestones required to achieve their objectives. They monitor and communicate their progress. At the end of a campaign, they provide a Post Campaign Wrap where they measure their results and use the data to recommend optimizations for future campaigns.

GMW is highly organized, excels at communication, and effectively manages many projects simultaneously. They are incredibly clear about their processes. They quickly adapt to changes in the industry.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Growth Marketing Werks could have done differently?

Growth Marketing Works is extremely knowledgeable. Their expertise and depth of knowledge can be invaluable in providing high-quality media strategy. This knowledge can sometimes overwhelm a partner who may not have the same level of understanding. When presented with this challenge GMW responded well and has done a good job of giving a higher-level overview and not overwhelming our team.

I’m the director of marketing and brand strategy at Pinnacol Assurance, a workers' compensation insurance company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Growth Marketing Werks?

In the weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic, we had a go-to-market strategy, but it became apparent that it wouldn’t work. We hired Growth Marketing Werks to help recalibrate our go-to-market strategy and figure out the right message in the right place to move forward.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our projects usually work with Growth Marketing Werks by filling out their briefing document and then going through kickoff meetings and strategy sessions. The result of the strategy sessions is a media plan, which we then sign off on. The media plan includes the precise tactics we use, like websites, partners, television stations, radio stations, and various other outlets that will go to market. 

The media plan tends to be multi-faceted, and it's a true 360 plan that goes across digital, broadcast, and print. They also handle and secure media placements for us. They take our assets, perform trafficking work, and ensure they’re uploaded to the correct services and partners.

We work primarily with Suzanne (Founder & Chief Media Officer).

I was not with the company when we started working with Growth Marketing Werks, but I believe an RFP was sent out, and they were selected from the companies that applied.

We’ve invested around $200,000 with Growth Marketing Werks. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in March 2020, and the engagement is ongoing. We have continued to work with them on various projects since we first hired them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

After our first campaign, our unaided awareness increased by 70% YOY. For the same campaign, our video completion rate was up 88%, and our social actions were up 200% YOY. 

How did Growth Marketing Werks perform from a project management standpoint?

They set aggressive timelines that they’re able to meet, and they keep everyone focused and on time. Growth Marketing Werks sets clear expectations and is transparent if anything needs to change. They do a good job at the beginning of the project, teeing up what the cadence will be and getting meetings on the calendar in advance. This helps when we’re busy, keeps the process moving smoothly, and allows us to hit deadlines. 

They are very flexible in their communication styles and willing to change based on what works best for us. We communicate primarily via email, Zoom, phone calls, and text. In the past, we’ve used Google Chat, Slack, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.

The team proactively brings ideas to us and acts as a sounding board for our ideas. They’re easy to work with, and they’re problem solvers. Growth Marketing Werks understands our business and what we’re trying to accomplish; they put a lot of thought into how to be the best partner for our company. They respond effectively to feedback, change things quickly, and solve issues.

I’m the former VP of marketing at TalentReef, which was just acquired by another company. The company is a frontend recruitment platform that helps the hourly workforce recruit and retrain hourly employees.

What challenge were you trying to address with Growth Marketing Werks?

We brought in Growth Marketing Werks to expand our digital marketing efforts. We used to have a tradeshow- and events-driven lead generation strategy, so I wanted to build a digital demand strategy to complement it.  

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

At the start of the project, we provided Growth Marketing Werks with a brief that included our ideal customer profile, background on our company, and our previous go-to-market strategy. We wanted to drill deeper into core markets that would be a good fit for us. We also wanted help piloting campaigns into adjacent industries to expand our exposure. 

To generate leads, Growth Marketing Werks ran a vertical campaign to funnel and nurture qualified inquiries for our sales team. They nurtured the sale cycles at the top of the funnel and then ran a horizontal marketing campaign across adjacent industries. The leads generated from those campaigns were then nurtured with a slightly different message from those on our vertical campaigns. Ultimately, Growth Marketing Werks was able to transfer those leads into the sale cycle.

I worked with Suzanne (Chief Media Officer & Founder), Gwin (Media Director), Sophie (Media Coordinator), and several other teammates. 

How did you come to work with Growth Marketing Werks?

I worked with them in past roles but initially found them through a referral. I selected them for this project because they took the time to lead a good discovery process so they could understand our goals and objectives. They were responsive, flexible, and willing to work alongside us. 

How much have you invested with them?

We invested around $100,000 a quarter, split between media buys and their services. 

What is the status of this engagement?

This partnership was from November 2019–September 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

By working with Growth Marketing Werks, we increased our marketing-qualified leads (MQLs) by 85%, sales-qualified leads (SQLs) by 141%, and increased annual recurring revenue (ARR) bookings by 179%.  

The marketing programs we developed with Growth Marketing Werks became the lion's share of our lead generation efforts, especially because of the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their team was very responsive and close to our programs — we liked the one-to-one relationship. 

How did Growth Marketing Werks perform from a project management standpoint?

We usually communicated through emails — their team was very responsive. We had strategy sessions and project recap meetings through Zoom or in-person meetings. Their team made sure to deliver on time and stay within budget. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Growth Marketing Werks’ flexibility was fantastic. They worked closely with us, facilitating a partnership where they received and implemented feedback well. They were willing to pivot when needed and optimize when necessary. Growth Marketing Werks always offered recommendations on improving our efforts and made changes when necessary. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Sometimes, our timing was off because I had a small team and limited resources. That raised some issues with tracking materials.

Customers need to be open and honest with Growth Marketing Werks — let them know about the results of their campaigns, messaging tweaks, and any internal feedback. They can take that information and provide customers with recommendations on optimizing campaigns.

We have scheduled reoccurring meetings to discuss performance, reporting, and any changes to enhance the campaigns.

It is difficult to have to use a creative agency and then a media agency and liaise between them.

They ran an extensive multi-month long, high-touch paid advertising campaign for us to develop brand awareness for one of our new products. Their pre, during, and post-campaign strategies were thorough and I felt like I had a good understanding of the campaign from start to finish.

I worked with another somewhat internal agency to help develop the creative and I created the ad copy.

This was a good way to use our excess in budget and our product was definitely promoted well.
