Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m a director at a video game e-learning startup. I consult on new game content we support and oversee marketing/advertising work.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire GR Digital?

We’re primarily focused on developing our learning platform and the content it provides, so advertisement creation in-house is difficult. We hired GR Digital to produce a Fortnite advertisement centered around in-game footage (which in itself is very difficult to work with).

What were your goals for this project?

The goal for us as a company, before launching our new site, was to create and test multiple ad ideas to see what style (e.g., funny vs. informative) resonated with potential customers.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

When working with a freelancer to produce our first in-game footage concept, my team found a video online produced by a GR Digital employee. The quality was so far superior with GR Digital that we began working with them immediately. We’ve now worked with them on two videos, and their response time and reasonable pricing are the major factors in continuing to work with them. Their experience with the in-game camera system helps them work quickly too.

Describe the video(s) and the process in detail.

Once we selected GR, we provided them with our final draft for each ad concept, and they identified where we needed to provide content and where they could handle it. They delivered all the content for our first ad, while we hired a third-party to generate in-game content for the second. GR then edited that third-party content. Both ads involved a feedback process where GR fine-tuned them (including multiple iterations of the second ad).

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

We had a primary point of contact at GR, and I served as the primary point of contact at my company. I reached out to my team to gather feedback on GR's work, and their primary point of contact distributed it to their team to make changes. In both ads, we iterated on multiple rounds of feedback.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We haven’t aired the ads yet, so we're unable to share growth or visibility metrics, but we'll have those numbers in the next few months. So far, GR Digital has met my expectations, which were quite high after seeing the video that introduced them to us. Our internal team is quite happy with the quality, and we look forward to collaborating on future ideas as well.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We cooperated smoothly. Even though there was a 6-hour time difference between us, GR was always incredibly prompt in replying, and they turned around most of their editing work in a few business days. Updates/changes based on feedback were turned around in a single business day. We communicated through email and had no issues from a project management perspective.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They’re able to manipulate in-game camera systems to capture the angles, speeds, zooms necessary to make compelling, cinematic video. It’s not an easy system, so their experience and skill are unique.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No, not that I saw. We look forward to working with them in the same way again.

I selected GR Digital based on the recommendation of the aforementioned third party. After meeting with them and discussing the project, they were clearly right for the job. Their broad experience in the gaming industry was a huge benefit and apparent from the start.

GR Digital handled everything, from development to design to project management. They also contributed to discussions and decisions around the functionality of the app.

What was the team composition?

We had one lead developer, who was responsible for all backend and infrastructure work, along with one full-stack developer who handled frontend and user-facing work. One designer delivered all the artwork and designs. Our project manager handled the team, kept tasks up to date, and compiled accurate progress reports.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The application is now live and free for public use. It's currently being monetized, which has a huge impact.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

I worked with them to create tasks and hone details. We organized tasks by priority and arranged two-week sprints, with a release at the end of each sprint. At the beginning of every sprint, we had an update call to discuss changes or address questions and pressing issues. They added me to their Slack channels so I could speak directly to the team. 

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I loved their flexibility and knowledge. To my knowledge, only one other person had done what I asked of GR Digital, and their problem-solving method wasn't public. No matter the time of day, they were always responsive and easy to meet with for updates or discussions.

Are there any areas for improvement?

A lower price is the only way my experience could have improved, but the quality of work was excellent. With GR Digital, you truly get what you pay for.
