As an early-stage company experiencing rapid growth, we recognized the need to evolve our brand identity and messaging to cater to a broader audience while preserving our core differentiated identity and offerings. With increasing budgets, it became crucial to refine our identity and messaging to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of our marketing investments. 

We partnered with In Good Co. for this pivotal project, and they ensured every aspect of our brand was thoughtfully aligned with our market expansion goals. Key deliverables included a comprehensive brand strategy, concise and compelling Value Propositions, revamped messaging guidelines, and a implementation plan to ensure seamless execution across all marketing channels.

The project delivered several measurable outcomes that underscored its success. Notably, we saw a reduction in customer acquisition costs and a boost in engagement metrics, both of which have been instrumental in our company’s exponential growth. 

Additionally, our revamped branding and messaging have become powerful tools in recruiting new talent, setting us apart as the coolest company in our sector. This strategic enhancement of our brand identity and messaging not only allowed us to resonate more deeply with our target audience but also played a critical role in securing a significant investment led by Kleiner Perkins.

If there were any areas to be improved, it would probably be with me and how I wish we would have tapped In Good Co. to help bring this new identity into other areas of our marketing efforts. That ability was stunted by circumstances out of their control.

Overall, IN GOOD CO did an excellent job of helping us develop a cohesive brand. We weren’t easy to work with, but they really did their best to work with us. Also, our clientele and teammates complimented their outputs.

They managed the project very well. They always communicated with us and followed an organized process. They would usually send us a deliverable to review, and then we send it back to them along with our feedback.

Their creativity was impressive; they were able to help us come up with a unique voice and image for our brand.

What was the scope of their involvement?

In the project that I work with them, they primarily provide digital strategy and graphic design. The graphic design can be anything from our marketing campaigns, advertising, social media, and organic content.

I work directly with Chris (Co-Founder & Chief of Ideas) and she’s my main point of contact.

I chose to continue working with them because I appreciated how collaborative their work is. They have high standards and good design skills, and that’s been really beneficial in the engagement.

We’re on a monthly retainer with them in the ballpark of $10,000.

I’ve been working with them since I started working for the company in October 2019, and it’s an ongoing relationship.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I really appreciate that out of all the agencies that I work with, they’re so attentive in making sure we meet deadlines, even if it means prodding my team along. They’re just very hands-on and very conscientious in that way. 

How did IN GOOD CO perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve provided the highest quality when it comes to project management and oversight. We don’t really use any project management tool, but that’s a choice on our side. However, they’ve always accommodated whatever means of communication or collaboration we’ve done so far, and it worked for all of us. Overall, they work very much like an extension of our internal team. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I really appreciate Chris’s creativity and the fact that she is very attuned to our brand. As a result, her recommendations have always been in support of the larger mission that we’re working towards.

Take the time to meet with their team in person because you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how open they are and how much they want to understand your work.

They started by interviewing key stakeholders in the brand to get a better understanding of who we are. They came back to us with some tweaks to the branding and ideas for building it out in terms of colors, advertising, packaging, signage, and more. They also helped us with branding for our website and email templates. We ended up with a 40-page brand book.

Everyone was really happy with the direction that they took us. They added very important aspects to the brand. They respected the original intention of our brand, but added things we hadn’t thought about.

They performed very well. They were always transparent with things. They set deadlines and they met them. It was clear that the team was passionate about their work. They only take on projects that they believe in. As a result, they were really enthusiastic about the work.

What challenge were you trying to address with IN GOOD CO.?

When I was working at the institution, there were 1,600 branch offices with no uniform brand. My job was to create a unified, consistent brand across all touch points, and IN GOOD CO. was a key component in helping with the retail footprint and customer experience.

What was the scope of their involvement?

IN GOOD CO. took a look at the campaign we were running and extrapolated from there to build more campaign messaging for us. They developed creative concepts and designs. Most importantly, they developed a consumer experience strategy in-branch.

The team mapped out the entire customer experience, whether it was online or in-store, and helped us identify where the key touchpoints were and where there were inconsistencies. From there, IN GOOD CO. developed ways of defining around those inconsistencies and making the experience a really pleasant and positive one.

I worked with five people, including Kirsten (President & Founder). I also worked with Christina (Co-Founder and Chief of Ideas), Alex (Creative Director), Lizzi (Designer), and Jen (Head of Client Happiness), who acted as our day-to-day interface.

I was looking at a bunch of different options, but wasn’t finding the right fit. A colleague of mine had seen IN GOOD CO.’s work and was impressed with them, so she put me in touch with Kirsten. I met with her and saw their credentials, and it was just a natural fit.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

First and foremost, we were impressed with how well IN GOOD CO. could take the brand idea we had and figure out what it would look like in reality and in our branches. It was amazing, and helped lift everything else we did, from advertising to collateral. All of our marketing efforts improved as a result of IN GOOD CO.’s contributions. It was very positive. 

We also saw great responses from our customers. We saw foot traffic increase in the branches that had been updated, and we saw customer feedback improve significantly. 

How did IN GOOD CO. perform from a project management standpoint?

I can totally endorse them without any kind of hesitation. IN GOOD CO. were excellent to work with. They were proactive, communicative, and transparent. They were always bringing new thinking and new ideas without us having to pull teeth to get stuff from them. 

We’re on different coasts, so our communication took place over conference calls and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were incredibly pleasant people to work with. They’re proactive as collaborators: they interpret what’s being shared and can think about it in real-time, as opposed to waiting for someone to brief them. With IN GOOD CO., they were humble and ended up over-delivering.

I can’t think of anything off the top of my head. They were quite excellent both in terms of the creative and strategic thinking, as well as the execution.

Have reference points to share that demonstrate what you like and don’t like. That will spark the conversation about your expectations, which will be really helpful for them. You need to be aligned on what you think works, so IN GOOD CO. will have a sense of your methods, thinking, and preferences.

When I worked with IN GOOD CO, I worked on the creative strategy team at a social media platform. Our team helped with brand advertisements and other similar ideas for the platform.

What challenge were you trying to address with IN GOOD CO?

During that time, I led a program that was essentially a network of creators and creatives who I connected with brands to create ad content for the platform. We created two promotional videos for the program itself.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The team at IN GOOD CO created videos for us to communicate the program towards advertisers. They led the conception, the scriptwriting, and production. Each video started with a creative brief and budget, and then they started on the script and concept. For the most recent video, we shot at a studio in Los Angeles. We collaborated closely for every single shot.

What is the team composition?

I primarily worked with the head of the agency, Chris (Chief of Ideas), and a team of four or six. I was in touch with a creative lead and account lead. They partnered with a group of designers, writers, and production.

Before Chris started at IN GOOD CO, she worked with a good colleague of mine. We worked with them once before, and it was a great outcome.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with IN GOOD CO on two videos from June 2017–July 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

IN GOOD CO understands our brand well. The video was a hit internally and externally. We have hundreds of salespeople that brought it to their advertisers. It showed the creative capabilities of our team, and it was received very well.

Their team understood the nuances, not just us as a social media platform, but the challenges we were up against to communicate to brands that they should advertise on the platform. They knew the in’s and out’s from a business perspective.

I’ve worked with a lot of different agencies and production shops. There was little to no handholding needed. The solutions-oriented team moved quickly within a limited budget. They’re a strong team of all women that wear many different hats.

How did IN GOOD CO perform from a project management standpoint?

From a project management standpoint, they were great. I never had to reach out to them for an update. Communication was seamless and ongoing; we used phone and email. We also used Google Docs to collaborate on scripts.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their overall collective personality and tenured experience make them stand out. They’re approachable, willing to roll up their sleeves and tackle big concepts. They execute creatively within budget and time. They’re great female leaders in the creative space, and I try to send as many brands as I can their way.

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve worked with them. It was pretty seamless.

Make sure you have a strong brief that gives their adequate context on your business needs and objectives as a marketer. IN GOOD CO wants to be immersed in your business, so they can really deliver. Set them up for success by spending time with them early on to onboard them and give them context around your goals. That will lead to a great idea and end product.

We hired IN GOOD CO to develop and design a high-touch brand activation for Waze at college campuses to promote their new Carpool app. The strategy consisted of a pop-up activation, rewards and giveaway plan and experiential activations to drive conversion and social amplification.

What were your goals for this project?

Waze Carpool, a fresh way to share the road & the cost of commuting, asked YMC to assemble a team of enthusiastic student brand ambassadors and spearhead an experiential pop-up tour in the San Francisco Bay Area. The goal as to create awareness, convert conventional commuters (drivers and riders), increase app downloads, retain user engagement, and drive social mentions.

SOLUTION

How did you select IN GOOD CO?

IN GOOD CO has been a long-standing partner and collaborator of YMC. In addition to select brand campaigns, IN GOOD CO also worked on our agency’s rebrand and messaging strategy.

Describe the project in detail.

We brought IN GOOD CO as our partners to: develop the experiential strategy and design concept of the entire consumer journey -- developing a multi-channel strategy to drive consumer engagement. Every detail of the pop-up activation was conceptualized and designed including the campaign lock-up logo, event signage, swag giveaways and collateral. Additionally, IGC worked with our selected fabricator to establish a schedule, procedure and quality assurance to deliver an impactful pop-up experience.

What was the team composition?

The IN GOOD CO is a tight-knit team. For our work together, their crew was led by Christina Danton (Chief of Ideas), Alex Kolbe (Creative Director), Lizzi Egbers (Creative Strategy Lead) on the creative side, and Jen Kaplan (Head of Client Happiness) on the accounts.

We had an initial rough vision for the dispensary. Through an ideation process, In Good Company helped develop the foundation for the brand. From there, we worked through the brand's voice and how it is to manifest through all points (retail, ecokmerce, advertising signing, store design, etc.). 
The final deliverable was a brand / style guide allowing the company to execute at launch and beyond.
