Branding & Marketing for Engineering Firm
"The Glow Studio is our trusted advisor."
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We're a nuclear engineering company in the UK, and we deliver specialized engineering solutions to clients across the UK and abroad, particularly in Europe. Our work involves nuclear defense and that includes developing civil nuclear sites for nuclear power plants that have been decommissioned. We also work on other matters, but we’re primarily focused on engineering-based jobs.
What business challenge were you trying to address with The Glow Studio?
We hired The Glow Studio to help us in building our brand.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The nuclear industry itself is slow-paced, contrary to our fast-paced company culture. In fact, we want to get things done as quickly as possible so we’ve been quite proactive. Since our team is still quite young, we’ve been keen on bringing new engineers into the industry and our company. As such, the team is helping us in differentiating ourselves in our industry, specifically on making us an attractive company for job seekers and customers through their marketing tactics.
What is the team composition?
We’re working with 3–4 team members from The Glow Studio. We collaborate with their employees on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
How did you come to work with The Glow Studio?
Some of the senior members in other organizations had worked with The Glow Studio when they were still under a different name. With their good reputation, we reached out to their team when we formed the company. Another reason was the fact that the senior management at our firm wanted some trusted advisors onboard. Above all, The Glow Studio worked in our industry before so they knew how to tick the boxes of our projects and what made people excited.
How much have you invested in them?
We’ve spent £50,000–£200,000 (approximately $69,200–$277,000 USD).
What is the status of the engagement?
We started working together in January 2011, and our partnership is still ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our biggest metric is the positive feedback that people have given us about our website or case studies that The Glow Studio team has produced. Professional advisors such as lawyers have said that our marketing is the best that they’ve seen in the industry.
Overall, the brand changes over the years including subtle changes within our logo that The Glow Studio has implemented have been praised by stakeholders. Everyone has been pleased with how we’re evolving and our commitment to not just stick with what we’ve got by looking at our marketing strategies on a yearly basis.
How did The Glow Studio perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve performed well from a project management standpoint. Their communication skills are concise and clear, and they’re frequently in touch with us. They’ve got all the tools and systems that we need. Overall, we appreciate the extra level of communication and understanding they give to us.
What did you find most impressive about them?
We consider them experts because they’re not pushy; they don’t force their ideas and have never given us a hard sale. On top of that, they don’t point us in a direction where we don’t want to go, and they know what they’re talking about.
The Glow Studio is our trusted advisor. The fact that we don't have to go back to them so many times and ask for revisions or proposals speaks volumes because it means they understand our brand and know what works.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We could’ve had more face-to-face meetings, but we understand that we’ve had to adhere to the COVID-19 restrictions. We still welcome the idea of visiting their office frequently in the future.
Any advice to potential customers?
Listen to what they have to say, but also be explicit about what it is that you want. That way, Glow Studio can give you their advice and point you in the direction that might suit you best.

"The best thing about Glow is that they build genuine relationships with their clients."

Please describe your company and your position there.
I previously worked as a Marketing Manager for Southampton Airport in Hampshire, UK.
For what projects/services did your company hire The Glow Studio?
Glow were the preferred design agency for Southampton Airport for around 6 years. They designed everything from advertising, brochures and leaflets, signage, event stands and even our airport mascot.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We were looking for a local design agency that could take on our creative requirements after we we left the Heathrow Airport group. We wanted to create more exciting and engaging creative after our re-brand. We went through a formal tender process and we were impressed with the ideas and designs that Glow presented and also felt that our team would work well with the Glow team.
Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.
Glow got to know our brand very quickly and understood our goal of creating fun and engaging content and also gave us the ability to be a little bit braver with our content. They were fabulous to work with and were always happy to meet up for me to do a verbal download of what I wanted to get out of the project. They understood me, despite me often providing them with a terrible brief!
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
We worked with the full team at Glow, they have excellent designers and Lisa the MD is a real asset to her company. They often welcomed me into the office and it was great to get to know them all. We built an excellent relationship and it was always great to hear Glow's suggestions for the marketing activity for the airport which were always really exciting.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The look and feel of the airport brand was really down to the creativity of the Glow team. They developed the brand in a way that made the Southampton Airport branding more engaging in a friendly way. They really added to the brand personality in a positive way.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
The whole team at Glow are friendly, approachable and welcoming. They run a tight ship and I always felt that I could trust that they had projects in hand. Glow never delivered exactly what I requested, they always took a brief and delivered over and above what I was expecting.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
The best thing about Glow is that they build genuine relationships with their clients. They got to know the brand really well and then championed it through each project that they worked on.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
None from me! I was so impressed with the work that Glow did for Southampton Airport I invited them to tender for my new role at Drew Smith. they were successful and I have been really impressed with everything they have done so far.
Responsive and committed, The Glow Studio has received positive feedback for their branding and marketing work. They're highly commended for their willingness to constantly evolve their strategies. They're understanding and trustworthy, which allows them to have a fruitful ongoing partnership.
