I’m an advertising copywriter at a creative agency called Dentsu.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Geronimo Boy Film?

We engaged him mainly to produce a film documenting a tour of Southeast Asia with the London Chamber Orchestra.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to capture highlights of the tour for our clients’ internal use, and possibly to promote the tour in the future on their social media channels.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We were recommended this vendor by some of our colleagues who had worked with him in the past. Also, because we first needed to create some image and video assets to promote the tour in May 2019, we preferred engaging a photographer/director who was already based in London. When the tour kicked off in October, we decided to engage Josh once more because of:

  1. his familiarity with the orchestra
  2. the passion and enthusiasm for the project he showed us when we first met him in London
  3. his adaptability, and
  4. his ability to communicate and work well with people of different cultures.

Describe the video(s) and the process in detail.

This project is different from other creative projects in general because everything evolves around an on-ground event, which sits outside of our control. The entire tour took months of planning and Josh worked closely with us (the creative team from the main agency), the team from the events agency (which was in charge of the orchestra’s schedules in Southeast Asia), our clients, and our local partners (including crew and our clients’ charity partners) to ensure that we could capture the footage we needed.

The final product from the tour consisted of two films, one that covered the events in Cambodia, and another that summarised the entire tour across five cities.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

Josh worked mainly with us, together with a sound engineer and his DOP. We produced the scripts based on what we knew would happen on-ground before sharing them with Josh, but we also let him know that things could change vastly on the actual day given our past experiences with this tour.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Not really, the films have not gone live publicly at this time. However, we did receive overwhelmingly positive feedback from clients on the visuals and stories captured.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The whole process was pretty open and collaborative. Although we worked off scripts, Josh and his team had some input on how to make things better and were very open and receptive to last-minute changes and feedback.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was impressed by the team’s professionalism and their patience and understanding. This tour can be pretty demanding, especially when you’re dealing with people who have very different ways of working, and don’t even speak the same language. But through it all, Josh and his team demonstrated a great deal of resilience and genuine passion for this project, day in and day out.

Are there any areas for improvement?

We were satisfied with the entire process as well as the end product, so no.

We gave a brief to our in house advertising team and they reached out. We met the team amongst other teams and asked them to prepare treatments. We then went into pre production where we fine tuned the idea and Geronimo Boy Film provided locations, cast etc. We then went into the filming days and then editing and retouching.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

They came up with a schedule that fit into our calendar. We then fed back amends until we were completed.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

I'm not sure on the exact numbers of the campaign but we make sure to only work with companies who can deliver quality results.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Easy to work with and have contacts globally for outsourcing work loads.

They also have a film festival. I wish they had a commercial version of the festival.

Josh handled the entire process with the utmost care and attention to detail, as he always does. From storyboarding to editing, he makes the process exciting and fun. His passion for what he does is contagious. We collaborated on the storyboarding and copywriting, creating a narrative that told the brand's story in a new and compelling way.

We had full oversight of the whole process from start to finish. Josh provided regular updates, stayed well within budget and was highly communicative. We had two rounds of feedback and edits which resulted in the perfect finished film.

The resulting film has become the client's campaign hero piece for 2020. It's had 46% more views on social media than other films of this type that they've created with third parties, 33% more engagement and a 24% more click throughs from the content to their website and store.

Seamless - we set up shared lines of communication and knew we could contact Josh at any time. Nothing was ever too much.

The video was a high end studio product film. They handled the entire production from reworking the script and producing a treatment for us to present to our client, to the production and post-production were the final films and stills were delivered.

They scheduled out the entire process from pre-production to post-production and we were given allotted feedback sessions and were able to collaborate with Geronimo Boy Film to archive the desired outcome. Throughout the process of working with them, we were communicating on a daily basis in order to have as much transparency throughout this project.

Our clients were really happy with the final film and the feedback of the brands community was very positive and showed great success, as it met the brief.our

We started with some ideas and they were able to take the ideas, restructure it to improve the stories and produce a lovely treatment. From there we went through casting, locations etc together. On the shoot days we were fed very well and the team were all very professional and fun. The edit process took 2 weeks as agreed and the final step was a colour grade which we we invited to .

They outlined from the beginning a pre and post production schedule, along with a small wrap party. Feedback during editing was a hands on approach of coming in for a few big sessions then a final tweaking round or two. online edit was done remotely.

The results are some films we are incredibly happy with. Actually better than we would have imagined. I get the sense they are a newish company looking to impress, and that they did.
