Geniusee has been helping us with mobile app development for this task, using React Native, React.js, various databases, and a collection of sophisticated and scalable technologies.  We’ve started this process by discussing our requirements and highlighting and documenting user stories to develop wireframes and ensure we all understand what we’re looking for.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our partnership with Geniusee feels like more than just working with a service provider. They’re a professional team that treats us like partners that care about my project since they care about the product’s maintenance and support for further development even after its completion. Moreover, Geniusee’s team is very open-minded regarding our questions to ensure we’re comfortable with their work. Overall, they give us a lot of comfort and confidence in the fact that we have a solid and trusted partner behind us.

How did Geniusee perform from a project management standpoint?

Geniusee adapts to our requests and meets our deadlines within the expected budget. They’re also very transparent in their working hours. Their team is also responsive, available, and organized because we always know who’s working on what task.

Regarding communication, my team has daily stand-up meetings with them — we feel we have full access to their staff members. We also share a Slack channel to keep flowing and strong communication. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

We like that we can call Geniusee’s team to request further development several months after they finish a project, and they immediately start working on it again.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Geniusee is based in Ukraine, and despite the geo-political situation, their technology works, and they’re delivering what we asked them without problems, so I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on.

I recommend working with Geniusee as early as possible. Give them as much information as possible and trust in their work so they can provide their smart, open-minded, and constructive work to help you meet your needs.

I’m the director of technology at an organization that helps students that study abroad book accommodation services. Part of my role is providing tech support for the company and developing new products.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Geniusee helped us identify new business opportunities through a workshop they conducted. After this workshop, we knew the product we wanted to develop, and Geniusee provided a development team for the project. 

After the discovery phase, Geniusee developed a new product within our platform, which is a subdomain of our website and a mobile application.

On our main platform, university and high school students can create an account and find recommendations about every aspect of studying abroad. Our new product’s goal is to engage with education agents; it’s common for Chinese students that decide to study abroad to contact an education agent that gives them consultation about the process. We wanted to develop a product to engage with these educational agents since they receive the student leads.

Geniusee’s work was excellent, and their team was very professional. Geniusee’s development process was transparent since they provided the according documentation during the development process. We recently launched the product and had good results; however, we’re still at an early stage and don’t have quantitative metrics.  

How did Geniusee perform from a project management standpoint?

Geniusee’s project management process was very professional. We used Jira, and Geniusee sent us status reports to track the project’s progress. We didn’t set hard deadlines because, during the development process, we found new features to create. We worked following the Agile methodology and had milestones to meet. We also had good communication and frequent meetings with Geniusee almost every day.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was most impressed by Geniusee’s service and professionalism. Overall, Geniusee was an excellent development partner.  

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything for Geniusee to improve. I believe our company could improve our strategic planning when developing a product.

As a software agency, it's common for Geniusee to offer you extra services, but I think staying neutral when developing a product is important. I recommend to develop and test as you go. Geniusee has a lot of creative ideas, but you must choose your company’s priority and keep on track with that goal.

My main point of contact was the project manager with one main developer working on the project. We had a slack channel with open communication between their team and ours with a very quick response time and clear communication as needed.

The requirements of the project were completed within the timeframe initially set out and we are very happy with the effort from the vendor.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We went through an upfront discovery, scoping, contract, and engagement process. They built everything from scratch, and the apps are iOS and Android native. Key functionalities include the ability to view transaction history, a spending control limit, and parent-child support. The technologies used on the product were Kotlin, Swift, Java, Terraform, and AWS.

What is the team composition?

We had over 20 people working on the project during the building process. Our primary contact points were the head of business development, the CTO, and a few project managers.

They were working with someone else in our company.

We’ve invested more than $1 million during our engagement. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2021; we’ve finished the app, but we are still working together on other projects.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app has 4.5 stars on the App Store. It was available for early release after about six months of work, which we consider fairly quick. We had full test automation, full automated infrastructure, and full unit testing, so the effect rate was really low. 

How did Geniusee perform from a project management standpoint?

They have great communication skills, and we were impressed with one of our project managers. They were timely in their delivery, and we stayed on budget for the app's build. 

We use Jira and Confluence for project management, and Slack and email for communication. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re nimble, flexible, and their engineers are conscientious and caring. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The biggest issue we’ve had is the speed of adding new engineers, but it's partially because it’s been difficult to get them in general.

Be clear about your goals so you can establish the right footprint of the team upfront. You should also keep communication with them open because they’ll work with you to solve your problems.

We were looking for software development expertise.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Geniusee helps us with software development. They use Angular for the frontend, Figma for the design, Node.js for the server, MongoDB for the database, and it all sits on Heroku and AWS. We also use many plug-in services such as S3 Buckets, storage, monitoring tools, and the standard software development kit with Jira, tracking, and bug and QA tools. We built the initial prototype, and then we developed it into a full-blown platform together.

It’s a CRM platform specialized in the private market world. Venture capital fund, grown equity, or private equity fund companies can use it to track deals and contacts.

We started with one full stack developer, and we’ve grown the team to 6–7 people, including front- and backend developers, graphic designers, project managers, and QA people.

Project management is excellent, which is why we’re scaling up with them. We’re going to expand the budget significantly by 10 people. We use Jira, Trello, Figma, and Kanban for management. We also use Slack for communication.

They have good technical skills; they can crack any technical problem we throw at them. They’re also very clever people. The developers can figure things out themselves and suggest improvements. In addition, they’re hardworking — they even work late nights and weekends.

We brought them in as our engineering partners. I joined the organization a little over a year ago and we had very junior resources that were engineering. I needed to level up our architecture development capability.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Geniusee is developing mobile and web app using React Native, Mongo DB on the backend, and Node and Nest middle tier API. We had them come in and start taking over the application development from the existing engineers that we had. After that, they did an application and platform review, and we made some changes to the architecture. Consequently, they started on the development cycles of core features for our products.

Regarding functionalities, the app allows families to coordinate the care of older adults by scheduling appointments and activities. It stores key information that would be required to help them, such as medical information, prescriptions, and financial details. It also shares updates with family members on the progress and care of their loved ones.

We’ve got 13 people from their team working with us right now, including a project manager, a tech lead, three React Native engineers, three React engineers, one designer, and three QA testers.

They have very strong project managers that communicate clearly. We use Slack, Zoom, and Google Meet for daily standups and sprint ceremonies, planning, and backlog maintenance.
