What challenge were you trying to address with GenITeam Solutions?

We wanted to create an app that could replicate my restaurant digitally through gamification.

What was the scope of their involvement?

GenITeam Solutions is doing game development for us from scratch for Android and iOS — we have already launched the app, and we're currently working on phase two of development. 

Regarding the process, we started by having an initial call to tell them what I was looking for, and they told me what they could provide in terms of resources, tools, and experience. Now that we've kicked off, we give them constant information throughout the engagement about what we like about the game's looks, flow, and story.

In terms of features and functionalities, the game allows users to connect their Facebook account, play a game about serving food to customers, earn coins, rank on a leadership board, and even earn a 10% discount on our physical restaurant.

What is the team composition?

We've been working with 6–8 developers from their team who work with characters, game flow, backend, and coding. They also have project leads and an account manager involved in the project.

How did you come to work with GenITeam Solutions?

I found them online, and we decided to go with them over a couple of other vendors.

How much money have you invested in this partnership?

So far, we've spent $60,000–$70,000 with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in October 2021, and the engagement is still ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve had around 600 downloads in both Android and iOS app stores, with a five-star rating in both. In addition, they’ve taken care of the few bugs we’ve encountered. Overall, the game they’ve created for us meets my expectations and functions according to them.

How did GenITeam Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

The project has taken a bit longer than expected and cost more than anticipated. However, we’re getting what we asked for, and I’m happy with the product so far, even though it still needs further development. Regarding tools, we use Slack and emails for communication.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’ve been able to overcome the issues that have arisen throughout the project. I can see the improvement in communication and budget management compared to the previous phase of the project. In addition, I like their graphics work, which is coherent with the look of our physical restaurant.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve with their commitment to deadlines, but we’re already noticing how they’re doing better with that.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Ensure to keep a good line of communication and have enough capital to invest in case the project goes a bit over budget.

What was the scope of their involvement?

GenITeam Solutions is developing a gaming app. When I left my first review, they had only worked on the iOS version. Since then, we’ve been working on an Android and Amazon version of the app. We plan to rebrand the Android app and create more user options, which requires GenITeam Solutions to completely change the code and software development kit (SDK).

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Since working with GenITeam Solutions, downloads have increased. The quality of their work is solid.

Since the beginning of the project, the team has gotten better about implementing certain aspects of the project. For example, we initially had a major bug impacting our Facebook login feature. Having fixed that, users can log in directly through our app.  

How did GenITeam Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve responded very well to my feedback. In the early stages of the project, they failed to prioritize different aspects of the projects and often pushed back releases. Recently, they’ve taken that into consideration and have completed their work in a timely fashion. On top of that, their communication and adherence to deadlines have improved.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve impressed by their ability to complete tasks in a timely fashion. When we first started working with them, they were solely focused on completing the project quickly. Over time, they’ve refocused on delivering high-quality work. Now they’re spreading out their deadlines in order to prevent errors.  

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not right now. They’ve addressed all of my concerns.

For what projects/services did your company hire GenITeam Solutions, and what were your goals?

I hired GenIteam Solutions to help with the completion of Space Critters. Our goal was to get the game released within the year into the app stores. We approached GenIteam with a completed Game Design Document, 80% Ui Design and 50% of the game art completed. We needed GenIteam to help with the game development. We also needed an Art team to help complete the missing assets.

How did you select GenITeam Solutions and what were the deciding factors?

We choose to work with GenIteam because of their willingness to provide quick turnaround time on completion, and an art team to complete the unfinished art assets. Another factor in selecting GenIteam was their organizational structure and the method of building the game from the ground up.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

Space Critters is a fully functional free to play puzzle game. The game needed a built in store, menus, game maps, levels, gameplay, game flow and difficulty scaling. When completed the game would also need three separate versions, iOS, Android, and Amazon.

The first step was to build a fully functional level. We began by building the first level, and making sure the gameplay was functional and that it flowed well. This included animation and special effects.

From there the next process was to build 100 levels and to scale the difficulty. Followed by creating all the required menu's in the game. We finalized the store items, created effects for them, added a pricing scale and tested the items in the game.

The final steps were to fix any bugs and prep for release.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

I worked directly with three people. Chief Gaming Officer of GenITeams, Project Manager, Solution Specialist. The majority of my time was spent coordinating with the Project Manager.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

GenIteam took our Game Design Document with unfinished art assets and created a fully functional mobile game that is now available on the app stores. In just under two months Space Critters has grown to over 5000 followers on FB. With solid creative direction on our end and GenIteams project management style we were able to work together to build a very fun product that is available world wide.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timelines.

GenIteams's project management is very good effective. They receive direction well and implement it in the code within days or on the same day depending on the requirements. Creative direction is relayed to the team and the results are very good. The majority of the communication is done through Skype meetings and emails. GenIteam will coordinate with the client to make sure the meeting schedule will work regardless of time zone.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What I found most impressive is GenIteam's willingness to work with you on all aspects necessary to reach your goal. The method that they provide the product to the client is very exceptional. They will provide the product in several stages. Each release builds on the last.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Sometimes not prioritizing certain aspects of the build and pushing it back to the next release can cause a bad snow ball effect. Where the problem, because it was pushed back creates an even bigger problem down the road. This only leads to more work that the development team will have to fix later because the problem has scaled. If they fix it when necessary it would allow the team to focus it's resources on improving the build. Too much time was lost fixing bugs.

The game is a psychological and strategic game. Players attack each other’s pieces, but the identity of the opponent’s pieces is not revealed until after an attack occurs. It’s a multi-player game. GenITeam Solutions has completed three of the five phases for the game.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with Maria (SQA) and a lead developer.

How did you come to work with GenITeam Solutions?

I found them on Clutch, along with some other companies. They had some good reviews, so I reached out to them.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve spent $21,000. There is another $9,000 to be paid upon completion.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together around April 2020, and our engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Every time they deliver, there are major quality issues. It takes a long time to get them fixed, as well. There are about 25 people who play these types of games that were planning to be testers. I’ve had to inform them of the delays. 

They’ve lost faith in the game ever being launched. We’ve also lost revenue due to the lack of the game’s ability to be released. I have access to the parts of the project they’ve completed, but not the parts they’re currently working on.

How did GenITeam Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate via email and Skype, both chat and call. We have spoken by phone several times, and they refuse to give a deadline and have quit communicating altogether now.

I sent pictures of issues via Docs. They're not good at meeting deadlines at all. They have missed the deadline twice now; the project was supposed to be finished by the end of August. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

GenITeam Solutions was willing to communicate outside business hours. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They have major quality and deadline issues. I am in the process of contacting a lawyer so that I can have everything they’re still working on and get another vendor to finish the project.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Include any penalties for delays in the contract to protect yourself and give them an incentive to finish on time.

GenITeam developed games in unity. The project began with game concepts (scripts) and artwork. GenITeam then builds interactive educational games based on the scripts. The games vary in visuals, play, and subject. GenITeam also builds in back office capabilities to update content and accessibility such as closed captioning and keyboard/scanning. Each game is built using our tested product development process and games are QAed by both GenITeam and n2y.

What was the team composition?

The team comprised of a GenITeam team lead and several developers. They work with our development team lead and QA team to complete each project.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our solution was developed and launched in 3 months and is doing well. We continue to work with GenITeam to make new games that are released throughout the school year. Teachers love it and students are engaged and acquiring new skills while having fun.

GenITeam holds weekly meetings to update the status of projects and works diligently to meet all deadlines. We enjoy working with them, they are efficient and effective.

We needed a 2D/3D game that is an extension of the simulator experience. The user can play golf on their mobile device, tablet, PC, or Mac without downloading an app. The goal was to be a quick download, collect user information, and share the experience.

The playable demo was an invaluable resource to help solicit funding for the completion of the full game. The demo captures all the core elements of gameplay, strategy, and AI necessary to give investors a concrete vision of the full experience.
