Web and Mobile Development for Startups

We are a vibrant and diverse team of software engineers and designers with roots at UC Berkeley and in Silicon Valley.

Geekbears is a boutique web and mobile development agency based in Silicon Valley.  We specialize in building web and mobile apps for entrepreneurs disrupting an industry. We have assembled an agile team of software engineers and designers to help fellow entrepreneurs fulfill their visions.

Our motto, Dream. Design. Develop. was inspired by our founder and CEO Marcos Mena-Brena’s own experience starting a company from the ground up.  Like many entrepreneurs, he was full of inspiration and drive, but was hindered by technical setbacks on the road to the first prototype for SchooLinks, an education based startup he co-founded. After overcoming these technical challenges, his startup later won an incubator program (Capital Factory) and secured funding ($1.5 Million USD).

As VP of Technology for UC Berkeley’s Entrepreneurship Association, Marcos served as a mentor to entrepreneurs launching their startups, and helped them gain the skills and resources needed to plan, design and launch their products online.

“Our passion is to help ambitious and talented entrepreneurs build their visions from the ground up” says Marcos, who carries the same commitment into client work.

Geekbears was born out of this ambition, and with a roster of top talent, we have brought more than 70 client projects to life since our 2015 inception, including startups emerging from the Haas School of Business and Harvard Business School.  From engineering and design to digital marketing, we provide our clients with the tools to grow and succeed.

Whether you’re working on your MVP (Minimum Viable Product) or already have an existing product, we believe in the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship, and will work diligently to help you build and scale your product.

SchooLinks Image

SchooLinks

SchooLinks is a web app that connects international students with thousands of potential schools. From general browsing to preference based filters, we helped students explore, correspond with, and ultimately, apply for schools with the push of a button. By gathering research from schools, students and educational agents, we were able to identify the key features needed for SchooLinks’ MVP (minimum viable product).

Hangurs MVP : iOS App Image

Hangurs MVP : iOS App

We designed and developed the entire Hangurs iOS Mobile App from scratch. About Hangurs: Your clothes tell a story. How you feel, your mood, your vibe—all of it is an expression of who you are and told through your chosen style. But sometimes what’s available in your closet is not enough to satisfy what you're feeling inside. What then? You can stay home in solidarity. You can wear something that doesn't harmonize and expect to

be uncomfortable. Or you can head to the mall and desperately scramble through those racks. If you're lucky and find what you love, are you then willing to spend an arm and a leg on something you might just wear once? Enter Hangurs, a community driven rental marketplace for luxury wear and fashion. Our goal is to make high fashion clothing and accessories affordable and easily available. It's time to stop compromising the dynamic nature of our fashion needs and finally have the resources to let our inside out.

Today, dumpling Inc. has raised $5 MM USD and has hired their own in-house team. They have pivot and now their mission is to empower millions of people to run their own highly-personal, grocery delivery businesses with just their phone and hustle.
