Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the former director of IT operations at Picciano & Scahill, PC, an insurance defense law firm.
What challenge were you trying to address with Fulcrum Digital?
I’ve been fully involved in all aspects of IT and software development and was tasked with building a case management system for the firm in 2001. We used XML to build the system but it became an outdated programming language. So, we hired Fulcrum Digital because it was time for a complete overhaul of the app and the language used to build it.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Fulcrum Digital rebuilt the entire platform from the ground up using .NET. They also developed the backend and used Angular JS for the framework. In addition to redesigning the UI, the team redid all of the workflow processes and integrations with our third-party web service provider.
What is the team composition?
About 15–20 people worked on the project.
How did you come to work with Fulcrum Digital?
After reaching out to me, they came to our office. We decided to work with them because they had an appealing approach, solid communication skills, and a good understanding of our needs.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested between $200,000–$999,999.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them in Sep 2015–May 2019.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We did a year of user testing and had neither downtime nor lowered productivity, which indicated success. We wanted the launch to be absolutely flawless, which it was. There was no reverting or panicking. Although there were a few bugs because of the large number of users, they were fixed almost instantaneously. Otherwise, the launch went beautifully and I couldn’t have asked for a better one.
How did Fulcrum Digital perform from a project management standpoint?
I worked with them almost every day, holding a 2-hour-long conference call with them every morning. They constantly communicated so I didn’t have any issues.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I was impressed by their depth of understanding of our wants. They spent a lot of time getting to know the project. Their communication and accessibility were great, which was key to the project’s success.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, nothing stands out. I wish I could say that we had issues since it was such a long project, but the entire process went smoothly.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be engaged. As long as you, the client, are available, Fulcrum Digital will be available. Things can and will change during such a long, complex process, so make sure you’re accessible and have a dedicated team. Additionally, make sure you have multiple stakeholders to see the project through.
They carried out an extremely successful product launch thanks to their solid work and extensive expertise. Any bugs Fulcrum Digital encountered were remedied quickly, resulting in an overall smooth process. Throughout the partnership, the team's understanding of the business’ needs came in handy.
