Guiding us through their proprietary framework, Friday Solved helped us build an internal sales engine for our sales and outbound marketing operations. The deliverables encompassed workshops, positioning, content strategy, planning and production, campaign management, with expert onboarding and coaching on a variety of tools and systems. The outputs of the workshops were delivered as an easy reference playbook.

While most outbound sales consultancies hide the strategy and sell you the output (leads, data, meetings, etc.) Friday Solved give you the tools and training to run and manage ongoing and repeatable campaigns in-house. It is a refreshing change to have this value retained within the business and totally at odds with the previous engagements we have conducted in this space. Ryan and the team have a refreshing high-touch approach, and they were deeply knowledgable and a pleasure to work with.

I've not met another company offering their proposition. They know our industry well, but more than that they understand that the sales process is best owned internally. Reliance on inbound leads is just not sustainable and the ability to not only deliver the right strategy, but also set up and start the process running, across the right tech stacks is unique. It helps your business succeed. What else would you want?

We were referred to Ryan and his team by a fellow agency colleague who had a successful relationship with them. Our business was relying on lead generation from third party agencies, and external business development managers. We knew that in order to scale our company and achieve long-term growth in what is a really difficult economy right now, we needed to bring our sales engine in-house. 

After the first call, it quickly became apparent that Ryan and his team had the expertise to deliver exactly what we needed. We began working together immediately after hitting it off!

Within just under 2 months of working together, we have:

YES. The best thing about Ryan and his team is that they 100% deliver on time, respond really promptly and most importantly, when we're on a virtual call, we just do things right there and then over screen-sharing rather than other agencies who say "okay do this and do that" whereas Ryan and his team are more on the side of "let's do it NOW together". They're really big action takers because "good" is better than "perfect" - and I massively appreciate that.

Our brief was simple: help us develop a strategic plan to grow the business to the point of being saleable. We didn't define deliverables per se, but outcomes to date include value proposition development & refinement; content marketing strategy; content marketing support; consultation and support on the implementation of new tools and processes; introductions to potential clients and collaborators.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our time working with Friday Solved so far (as of June 2023) has largely overlapped with our financial year, which we extended to align with the tax year. We recorded our highest-ever turnover in the 18-year history of the business, during this period. Aside from this, we have grown our network, won new clients, implemented new ways of pitching for business, launched our podcast and grown our team to meet increasing demand.

We established a regular, weekly pattern of meetings along with monthly board meetings and bi-monthly strategy days. Separately, Ryan is always available via WhatsApp for check-ins, typically within a couple of hours. The response to our needs has been multi-faceted and has evolved over time as we've brought new tools and processes into the business, then continued to build from there.

The Friday Solved team scales up and down according to the required expertise in any given meeting. Most of the work involved us at YourFilm working to implement suggestions put forward by Friday Solved, but there were also tangible deliverables from Friday Solved, for example a value proposition document, market research and content marketing pieces.

We engaged with Friday Solved because Ryan, who leads it, has co-founded and sold businesses; shares our company's values and culture; and he had proven to be a trusted advisor (on an ad-hoc non-paid basis) for years before we formally began working together.

He gives simple, effective advice, typically derived from direct personal experience or learned from his work with other digital service-led businesses. He quickly felt like he was 'on our team' in a way in which previous consultants and advisors never have.

We've had a couple of periods where the regular meeting schedule has been disrupted, and it can take some time to get back on track. This has been a relatively minor issue, though.

Big step forward in helping us get clear and efficient in a busy period. 2 of the first 3 new business prospects for whom we sold in our gateway services decided to use our company and the cost of sale was a matter of hours and days. Not weeks of elapsed time and effort.

Ryan was extremely flexible as we battled to deliver this work with other conflicting priorities and resource constraints

Value match was off-the-scale. Calm, pragmatic, flexible. They demonstrated a resourceful approach with an ability to make the complex simple.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

It was a huge challenge to deliver in the timescales but, nonetheless, finish quality could have been better, even in draft form. Only writing to help for future, we got what we needed in the timeframe for a very cost effective investment

Friday Solved came recommended by an industry peer, and their reputation was already known to us so these two factors led to gettign them on board.

The first phase was to run a series of workshops to understand our proposition and service offering. This was followed by a deep dive into our recording and monitoring processes for company health, work booking and sales functions.

A business specialist was attached to us throughout, working on site with us for a half day every week, and extra hours when we needed last minute or emergency input.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Little of the work undertaken is public facing, however internally the root and branch approach to business change was fundamental in gearing us up for the next wave of growth that followed. We were able to see with much more clarity where we were as an agency in any given month thanks to the systems Friday Solved put in place.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Very effective. At no point did we feel that we were simply moving through a checklist. Instead, Friday Solved took the time to learn our business and organically adjust processes and feedback throughout the cooperation.

The genuine interest and care shown in getting under the skin of our business. Others we had used in the past simply came in, generalised our offering and applied a cookie cutter approach to change. That was not the case here.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Friday Solved to provide us with sales consulting support and help us build out a portfolio of products that we could offer to prospects. We started the engagement with an initial discovery call, where we discussed our objectives. We then met in person and conducted a workshop. After a few weeks, we had a follow-up call, where Friday Solved discussed what they discovered and how they would organize that into a journey.

After that, they presented a PowerPoint presentation that documented each product we could offer, along with the proposition and the price. They provided a lot of support outside of the official engagement and even helped us implement the product post-turnover.

We now have more clarity in our sales team around what we could offer. We’ve also seen an increase in sales. We’re very satisfied with the collateral and PowerPoint slides that should facilitate and enable more sales in the future. I expect we’ll continue to see increased sales due to the work we’ve done with Friday Solved.

Friday Solved performed well in terms of project management. They delivered everything on time. They’re very responsive, friendly, and professional. We got everything that we wanted and saved time and money in the process.

There were then a number of in-person interactive workshops with activities and outputs that helped us to breakdown our position, purpose and proposition and to view ourselves in the context of the wider marketplace. These were then in time discussed and refined until we ended up with a result we were then happy to broadcast to the wider world.

We ended up with a distillation of the company vision and proposition which in turn formed the building blocks for us to reframe ourselves in the marketplace, our peers and our team. 

We ended up with a new lexicon and glossary that we felt confident about and formed the basis of our company messaging from our website to our team Merch.

We were doing OK as a business, but we wanted to grow further and improve our sales and marketing effort. We wanted someone to be an advisor to the board about all business strategy, but with a specific focus on growth.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I met Ryan at an event and had a fantastic conversation with him about yoyo, the work he does and how he could help. I talked about the challenges i had with previous consultants, and his style and approach reassured me straight away that he was different. He really listened to our challenges, he was involved in the detail and was with us in the trenches as opposed to just coming in strategising and leaving us to it. My business partners felt the same, so it was an easy sell.

The work involved monthly meetings, but these were planned based on requirements as opposed to a set process, which worked really well for us. The requirements were varied, as a sounding board or specific projects to help us build the agency. For instance, proposition development, marketing strategy (channels / messages / products, etc..), marketing department structure and processes (working directly with our marketing manager). This was in an advisory capacity, but Ryan isn't afraid to get involved and actually write some of these documents and processes themselves, which made such a difference. He also joined us in pitches, advises us on org structure, helped us recruit...it was hugely varied and all incredibly value to the agency.

What was the team composition?

We worked solely with Ryan, and from our side he was working mainly with the leadership and marketing team, but he was known to the whole agency and got involved in several all-agency meetings.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Although we couldn't say this is exactly the numerical results, across 12-18 months that we were working together, the agency's sales function increased in sophistication and the agency grew during this period. The pandemic reduced this growth, but this was out of everyone's control. The work that we did together though helped us to rebound quickly and continuing growing in a healthy and sustainable manner.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It worked so well as Ryan was very flexible and available when we needed him. Although we didn't abuse this (hopefully), he responded quickly day and night. We mixed things up between online, london and tunbridge wells, which again worked really well.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Ryan's energy was infectious. It gave us such a boost.

Is there any area for improvement or anything that could have been done differently?

Nothing that I can think of. He was / is brilliant, and a huge asset to any agency or company.
