Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the executive director of Startup UCLA, which is a co-curricular program of the university meant to support student and alumni entrepreneurs.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Flux.LA?

We needed a website redesign.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Because the website needs to be a part of UCLA, Flux.LA wasn’t involved in any of the programming for it. They created mockups of its design, based on what we wanted to see. We were given a number of options, had a back-and-forth for tweaking them, and then our IT team used the final version to create a WordPress site. We would have had Flux.LA take care of the programming as well, but, because we’re housed at UCLA, we couldn’t.

How did you come to work with Flux.LA?

Flux.LA’s team was in our summer accelerator. I had the opportunity to see the work they’d done on their own website, as well as others, and thought that they had a nice, clean approach in terms of strategy. Our website at the time was very dated, and we wanted a more current one. Flux.LA was able to do that.

How much have you invested with Flux.LA?

We did pay Flux.LA for their work, but the amount is confidential.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

Our version of WordPress is not advanced enough for analytics, but we’ve received many comments on how great the site looks since startupUCLA.com launched. It’s a very clean and current page.

How did Flux.LA perform from a project management standpoint?

Flux.LA primarily worked with our assistant director for the design, and I know that they had a few conversations through email and face-to-face meetings. They took our feedback, came back with changes, and maintained open communication. If there was something that we did not like, Flux.LA was more than willing to adjust it, making sure that us, as a customer, were happy with the end result.

What did you find most impressive about Flux.LA?

Flux.LA’s team are go-getters, and, when they take something on, they finish it, and they do a great job. I don’t think that anyone would be unhappy with the final result, as long as the client is open in terms of feedback.

The team is willing to tackle anything, and are open to trying different things. As college students, Flux.LA’s members want to be cutting edge. Whoever hires them will get some great, innovative ideas.

Are there any areas Flux.LA could improve?

Not off the top of my head.
