Flexum is utilizing React Native to build and develop a mobile app compatible with the iOS and Android platforms.

We started with a discovery phase and from there, they started creating the technical specifications and designing the wireframes. After that, they started building the first version of the app and we’ve since added more features, as they continue to provide us with maintenance and support.

It’s podcast listening app, so the main functionality is streaming and listening to audio files, as well as watching videos.

The quality of their process has been great, and their team is very easy to work with — It’s been a good relationship so far. 

They’re technically proficient and the build quality is reliable since we haven’t experienced any technical issues.

They strictly adhere to deadlines and stay on budget consistently. We manage the project through GitHub and JIRA, and typically communicate through Slack and Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We like how attentive they are to details and how they’re able to deliver what they promise. They bring a lot of value to the project, and it’s really nice to work with a bespoke company that meets our needs.

I’m the founder of ASO Giraffe, a mobile marketing tool for running A/B testing for iOS and Android developers.

What challenge were you trying to address with Flexum?

We were looking to formalize our development process as we only recently came out of an MVP phase with an external developer. We wanted to devote full-time resources to developing the application. 

Like any growing startup, we were looking to build new functionalities and make our platform more stable. We needed help in software development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Flexum has taken over the development of our app from our external developer. They do software development, and they build, manage, and service our platform. Our app is based on JavaScript, and we use React for the front- and backend. 

Our initial interaction revolved around having a transfer of knowledge from our external developer to Flexum. In that process, Flexum understood our problem and the app’s code. They figured out ways how we could seamlessly transition, and they also thought of the necessary functionalities for the project.

The development is ongoing, and we work as an agile scrum team with objectives, roadmaps, and sprint demos. We have expectations in terms of reporting, mainly around what’s being delivered in sprints. 

We also evaluate new designs and development, and we break up designs into smaller bodies of work. Flexum provides ongoing maintenance to the application.

I work with Myron (CEO & Co-Founder), Alina (IT Project Manager), and a software engineer.

I previously worked with Myron, and I knew him to be a thorough, considerate, and thoughtful engineer. Luckily, when I needed a software development agency, he was also available. 

I decided to progress with Flexum because Myron was a good worker, had an excellent technical understanding, and could tackle challenges.

We started working together in February 2021, and it’s ongoing.

We don’t have any specific KPIs for this project. Ultimately, our objective is to deliver on time, as specified, and efficiently. I’m working actively on the project as well, and I see the output they’re making. Flexum meets my expectations on all fronts. 

How did Flexum perform from a project management standpoint?

Flexum is professional, and they have a nice set-up and good approaches to sprint planning, delivery, and feedback. They also proactively address challenges that come up. We use ZenHub and GitHub to collaborate.  

What did you find most impressive about them?

Flexum has done a good job of tackling the complexity of the work we’re doing. When things don’t go as planned, they’re very open and honest about what’s happening. They seek to understand and solve problems together. 

Generally speaking, they do a good job of breaking down sophisticated tasks. When delivering those tasks, they can adapt to issues through good communication. Lastly, there’s little that needs to be done with their output — they’re thoughtful of major components in their work.

By leveraging Flexum's expertise, we've been able to accelerate development efforts without diverting significant focus from other strategic roadmap priorities.The project has also helped us navigate the complexities of integrating new functionality into a mature legacy application. Throughout the engagement, we've identified and addressed several platform-specific challenges and dependencies, resulting in a more robust and maintainable solution than our initial approach.While the project has required iterative refinement due to legacy code complexities and previously unknown platform behaviors, Flexum has remained engaged in resolving issues and improving the implementation. Their willingness to bring in additional expertise when needed has helped us quickly realign technical direction and continue making meaningful progress toward our goals.

Communication is clear, and when challenges or blockers arise, they work collaboratively with our team to identify solutions and adjust plans as necessary.From a delivery perspective, the project has involved a significant amount of complexity due to our legacy platform and several previously unknown dependencies that were uncovered during implementation. While those factors have required additional iteration and course corrections at times, Flexum has remained engaged and responsive throughout the process. When we've identified opportunities to improve the technical approach, they've quickly brought in additional expertise and helped move the project forward effectively.Overall, they're a strong partner from a project management standpoint and demonstrate a high level of professionalism, accountability, and collaboration throughout the engagement.

What impresses me most about Flexum is their flexibility, responsiveness, and willingness to collaborate through complex technical challenges. We're working within a mature legacy platform with significant existing business logic and dependencies, which means that not every challenge was known at the outset of the engagement.Rather than treating those challenges as obstacles, the Flexum team works closely with our engineers and product team to understand the issues, identify solutions, and adapt as new information emerges. When we determine that our initial implementation approach isn't producing the long-term results we're looking for, they respond quickly by bringing in a more senior engineer with deep CKEditor expertise. That additional guidance helps us realign the technical approach and accelerate progress.I also appreciate how integrated the team has become with our organization. They're highly accessible, communicate effectively despite time zone differences, and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership throughout the project. Their combination of technical expertise, collaboration, and willingness to adapt makes them a valuable partner for a complex modernization effort.

Given the complexity of our legacy platform, there's naturally a learning and discovery period as both teams work through existing functionality, undocumented behaviors, and technical dependencies. In hindsight, one area for improvement could be spending additional time earlier in the engagement aligning on long-term implementation approaches and architectural best practices before development accelerates.As the project has progressed, we've identified that the initial implementation approach isn't producing the long-term results we're hoping for. Once that becomes clear, Flexum responds quickly by bringing in additional senior-level expertise and helping us course-correct. The adjustment is effective, and progress improves significantly afterward.Ultimately, many of the challenges we've encountered are tied to the complexity of the legacy environment and previously unknown platform behaviors rather than execution issues alone. Flexum is collaborative and responsive throughout the process, and they work closely with us to address challenges as they emerge.
