Please describe your organization.
Farmigo is an online farmer’s market. It’s a traditional e-commerce shopping experience. We sell a whole range of products that you can find in the grocery store, all sourced locally. Customers can now order through our website or mobile app.
What is your position?
I am the director of design. I focus on all the user-experience and any design component around our digital products which are our website and mobile app as well as the offline experience - the pickup experience and packaging of the food.
What business challenge were you trying to address with Five?
We had a specific product challenge. Our web experience had hit a glass ceiling and we needed a native mobile app that would allow us to break out and leverage that technology. We have a particular model that requires ordering food in advance. There’s a lot about the native mobile experience, particularly push notifications and location-based items that would improve our overall user experience.
Please describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail.
Five was initially contracted to provide the app design and wire framing. After successful completion of that, we brought them on for the development of the app. We started the project with design sprints. It was meant to be a user experience contract. It was great working with them on the design, so we went ahead and signed a new contract to do the development.
Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?
The completed project is in the $50,000 to $200,000 range.
Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?
We have a roll out strategy for the mobile app and we initially targeted the goal out to a particular set of customers, which are the organizers. Only recently, have we released it to all of our customers. We’re still pulling in data to find out what’s working and what isn’t. What we’ve noticed is that there’s a very substantial difference in average order value. The app has been great at prompting our customers to purchase more items.
What distinguishes Five from other providers?
The team at Five is very communicative. Our internal development team is in Tel Aviv and the Five team has most of their development presence in Croatia, with some people on the ground in New York. It’s been great for us to be scattered across time zones. It feels like they’re a member of our team and less of a contracted shop. We’ve built a great relationship with Five over time. They’ve gotten to know us and we’ve gotten to know them. It’s gotten a lot more fluid. They’ve been phenomenal at building that process.
Is there anything Five could have improved or done differently?
The one thing we are looking forward to is Five having a stronger presence in New York. Everything we do utilizes remote work. Working remotely is always a challenge and the feedback loops with communication are always drawn out. I do see Five taking steps to increase their presence in New York.

A user will pay us some amount of money to gain access to on-demand and downloaded content across a number of major labels and Indie labels. Users can access 30 to 35 million songs depending on the catalog they have access to around the world.
What is your position?
Vice President of engineering. I oversee client development.
What business challenge were you trying to address with Five?
We use Five as an augmented staff agency. We use them for development staff augmentation for various platforms whether it’s iOS, Android, web, development or testing. We’ve used them to some amount for design as well when needed. The problem that we had was that we’re in a very competitive space. We are always trying to achieve as many feature enhancements to our products or we’re trying to add new products. We need the ability to expand our development staff as needed. We are primarily based in Seattle. We’ve worked with Five for a number of years, whether it’s on mobile applications or web applications, they’ve always delivered excellent work.
How did you come to work with Five?
Back before Rhapsody spun out of Real Networks we had a previous relationship with Five.
