BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the director of technology and analytics for a marketing and advertising agency that serves specialty pharmaceutical clients.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Exemplifi?

We outsource most of our development to three partner companies. Exemplifi is one of those partners. We like to scale quickly as needed, and this arrangement allows us to do so.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Most of the projects we work on are either disease awareness websites or product, brand, or drug websites. Some are domestic, while others are global. Exemplifi develops each website and integrates it with a CRM or CMS system. Some sites use off-the-shelf systems, while others work with legacy systems from our clients.

We contract them project by project. As new assignments come our way, we write up briefs for Exemplifi. They return with a quote and questions, and we then agree on the price and rough timing. We do a lot of the maintenance after projects are completed on our end, which allows them to keep their resources available for the next big project.

One example of their work is a website we collaborated on for a drug that was on the verge of FDA approval. We analyzed the business requirements and specs, and then created the design, copy deck, and wireframes. They asked questions, and we handed over all the documents and tools they needed. It was a WordPress site with a Salesforce marketing cloud integrated in for emails. If a lead came in from a physician, Exemplifi would work with provided data to customize outbound emails to sales reps. Once development was finished, they started QA, then supported the project 30-60 days after completion.

Since we had a comfortable relationship with this client, we always mediated between the customer and Exemplifi. We used Beanstalk as a code repository, and our team reviewed their work, but most of the development was in their hands.

What is the team composition?

On this particular project, we worked with a team of about 4 or 5. We had a project manager, dedicated front- and backend teams, and a specialist who focused on marketing cloud integration.

How did you come to work with Exemplifi?

I worked with them at a previous position. I had a very good relationship with them, and felt they were very responsive.

How much have you invested with them?

I think this project was between $50,000-$60,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The whole project lasted from August-October 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We never worked with them on standard projects; everything they created was custom. They always delivered on time and within budget, and our clients are happy. This particular site had a tricky launch time, contingent on the FDA approval. They offered 24-hour support over the long weekend that the site launched.

How did Exemplifi perform from a project management standpoint?

They resolved all our issues, and they adapted, responded, and recovered whenever there was a change or a mistake. Their ability to react quickly is very impressive. We used a lot of tracking tools, and they accommodated all of them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Whenever I reached out to them, even if the turnaround time was very short, they would always complete rough order of magnitude estimates within 24 hours. They are always responsive and adaptive, and they treat our relationship as a partnership. They go above and beyond, and we're very happy to work with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don't have anything they should improve.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

When working with offshore developers, be aware that the window you can meet with them is rather small. That's not a function of Exemplifi, but something to consider with any offshore resource.
