Feedback summary:

The project went smoothly and the site’s SEO improved according to a third-party expert. The new system is more efficient and is easier to edit. Exemplifi finished the project ahead of schedule and was very organized. An easy team to work with, they’ve begun another project.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the chief marketing officer at a manufacturing company that focuses on making new things possible by improving the way that manufacturers bring products to market. We do that by either leveraging new technologies, like additive 3D printing for industrial manufacturing, or rethinking entire processes and supply chains.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Exemplifi?

The CMS we had in place was limiting our agility and we wanted to give our marketing team the ability to make changes with a contemporary CMS.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The majority of the project was replicating the current site, cleaning up templates and shifting to WordPress. They were strictly focused on the backend—making sure the process was seamless and we didn’t break anything. They implemented technical SEO best practices so that wouldn’t take a hit.

What is the team composition?

I worked directly with the founder of Exemplifi, and I had a call with a lead developer, but there were other team members as well.

How did you come to work with Exemplifi?

They were recommended to a colleague.

How much have you invested with them?

That specific project was $15,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project lasted from August- September 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The outcome has been very positive. The new CMS gives us a lot more agility because our marketing team is able to create content and post on their own. It’s significant process improvement.

Rather than taking a hit on SEO like we expected, we’re actually trending up. We hired another SEO agency to ensure that everything was to a high standard, and their feedback was very positive. They were surprised by how button-down everything was from an SEO perspective.

Based on the project’s success and our strong partnership, we’ve committed to an ongoing relationship with them.

How did Exemplifi perform from a project management standpoint?

I was surprised by how quickly they provided feedback. Based on the extent of our project scope, I expected everything to take six weeks, but they finished in three weeks. Their communication was stellar, and our strong relationship is a big part of the reason why we plan to continue working with them.

We leveraged Basecamp and Google Sheets to the degree that it made sense. Then, they gave us access to their management portal where we can live chat and set priorities. Their team has been super quick.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re able to jump in and make sure everything runs smoothly. Communication is critical and they’ve been an exemplary partner. I’m very excited to have them as an ongoing partner.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There isn’t anything they need to improve; the project went extremely well.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be as transparent and upfront as you can be about what you’re looking for. As long as you scope out the project, things will go smoothly.

Feedback summary:

All the products Exemplifi delivers have some custom elements. Those elements perform well, and the sites are successful. Exemplifi is open to very fast turnaround times and specific requirements, goes beyond the prompt to accommodate changes in scope, and resolves issues quickly.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the director of technology and analytics for a marketing and advertising agency that serves specialty pharmaceutical clients.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Exemplifi?

We outsource most of our development to three partner companies. Exemplifi is one of those partners. We like to scale quickly as needed, and this arrangement allows us to do so.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Most of the projects we work on are either disease awareness websites or product, brand, or drug websites. Some are domestic, while others are global. Exemplifi develops each website and integrates it with a CRM or CMS system. Some sites use off-the-shelf systems, while others work with legacy systems from our clients.

We contract them project by project. As new assignments come our way, we write up briefs for Exemplifi. They return with a quote and questions, and we then agree on the price and rough timing. We do a lot of the maintenance after projects are completed on our end, which allows them to keep their resources available for the next big project.

One example of their work is a website we collaborated on for a drug that was on the verge of FDA approval. We analyzed the business requirements and specs, and then created the design, copy deck, and wireframes. They asked questions, and we handed over all the documents and tools they needed. It was a WordPress site with a Salesforce marketing cloud integrated in for emails. If a lead came in from a physician, Exemplifi would work with provided data to customize outbound emails to sales reps. Once development was finished, they started QA, then supported the project 30-60 days after completion.

Since we had a comfortable relationship with this client, we always mediated between the customer and Exemplifi. We used Beanstalk as a code repository, and our team reviewed their work, but most of the development was in their hands.

What is the team composition?

On this particular project, we worked with a team of about 4 or 5. We had a project manager, dedicated front- and backend teams, and a specialist who focused on marketing cloud integration.

How did you come to work with Exemplifi?

I worked with them at a previous position. I had a very good relationship with them, and felt they were very responsive.

How much have you invested with them?

I think this project was between $50,000-$60,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The whole project lasted from August-October 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We never worked with them on standard projects; everything they created was custom. They always delivered on time and within budget, and our clients are happy. This particular site had a tricky launch time, contingent on the FDA approval. They offered 24-hour support over the long weekend that the site launched.

How did Exemplifi perform from a project management standpoint?

They resolved all our issues, and they adapted, responded, and recovered whenever there was a change or a mistake. Their ability to react quickly is very impressive. We used a lot of tracking tools, and they accommodated all of them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Whenever I reached out to them, even if the turnaround time was very short, they would always complete rough order of magnitude estimates within 24 hours. They are always responsive and adaptive, and they treat our relationship as a partnership. They go above and beyond, and we're very happy to work with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don't have anything they should improve.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

When working with offshore developers, be aware that the window you can meet with them is rather small. That's not a function of Exemplifi, but something to consider with any offshore resource.
