BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the IT director of a plant and perennial nursery. We grow approximately 800 species of plants and deliver them into garden centers in Northwestern Europe and the Netherlands. We’re a small company made up of 50 people in staff, but we bring in seasonal workers in the spring. 

On an annual basis, we grow about five million plants in total.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ENDROiT?

Because of the large variety of plants we grow, we needed a special system that can handle the organization of these plants in each theme — that’s where ENDROiT comes in. They’re developing the software to work these things, on top of the main software package we had previously used them for.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a general portal for managing the clients and our plant products. I like to call it the shield around the main package of the software.

What is the team composition?

I first got in contact with Maarten (Project Manager & Technical Director). Nowadays, I mostly work directly with the programmers themselves.

How did you come to work with ENDROiT?

ENDROiT was recommended to us by our software supplier who supported our base package. They suggested that we contact EndroIT to build this extra software.

How much have you invested with them?

For the initial project, we’ve spent around €30,000 (about $36,100).

What is the status of this engagement?

The project began in January 2017. We’re still working with them to this day.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

While we don’t have any measurements of success, I can say that our collaboration is great and this project has been a success. We’re happy about the software and we use it every day. We’re currently building to expand it substantially and add new functionalities for the general customers. 

My colleagues are also very happy with how it turned out — it’s very easy to use and very flexible. I might say it’s too flexible, but it can be easily fixed.

How did ENDROiT perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re excellent when it comes to project management. We use Basecamp to get regular updates, particularly complex ones like scheduling.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The main characteristic of ENDROiT is their flexibility. They can easily understand and build the software you want. It doesn’t really matter how complicated it is because they always manage to get it done.

They’re also accommodating with applying changes. Even if it’s just a slight change in the software, you can just ask them and they will fix it in no time.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They can improve on being a little more thorough in investigating changes or updates in the software. Because sometimes the changes they make can affect the crucial parts of what is already there.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to not think too much about what can or cannot be done. Consider what you would like and then ask them to make it. Don’t think much about constraints unless it’s in terms of what you would like to see.
