We needed assistance in making our Klaviyo email marketing more robust.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Email Composed helped us improve our Klaviyo email marketing by implementing additional flows that could run in the background. Initially, they gathered our background information and looked at our current marketing efforts.

After assessing our email marketing on Klaviyo, Email Composed found some areas that they thought they could help us with. From there, they proposed a marketing plan, and we agreed to it.

Throughout the process, they proposed some strategies, we provided feedback, and they would change it accordingly. Additionally, we collaborated on deciding the marketing copy that fit us best, after which they implemented it.

Email Composed also created email templates and finished copies for a variety of automated campaigns. For example, they created an abandonment cart template. When someone goes to our website and ultimately abandons their cart without finishing the purchase, we send them an automated email with a specific template to address that.

In addition to the Klaviyo enhancements for email automation, Email Composed offered to write one-off emails that were not automated. However, we declined those services.

We worked with Daniel (Founder) and a team lead from Email Composed. The team lead was my main point of contact. She communicated with me throughout the whole process and relayed what their team would do. Besides them, I communicated with 3–4 other team members from Email Composed at some point.

How did you come to work with Email Composed?

Email Composed originally reached out to us to offer their services. Daniel sent me an email that included a Loom video, after which we had a meeting to review how they could help us with our email marketing. Once we reviewed some of their other work, we agreed to work with them.

We spent around $4,800.

What is the status of this engagement?

We had our kick-off call in October 2021, and the project concluded in March 2022. However, Daniel reaches out to us every now and then to ensure their templates and copy are still working well.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Email Composed is an expert in Klaviyo; therefore, they did a really good job in working with our specific needs. We have a lot of subscription-based transactions with our customers, so we have a lot of recurring orders coming through.

We knew there was a trick in setting up Klaviyo so that the emails worked properly and recognized that we weren’t spamming customers with a subscription. Email Composed demonstrated a strong knowledge of Klaviyo and was able to tweak the settings to make our emails work properly.

Additionally, they definitely provided us with email engagement that we previously didn’t have. They added more points of contact with customers in order to leverage a higher conversion rate.

How did Email Composed perform from a project management standpoint?

Email Composed’s project management was excellent. We got a little behind schedule, but that was because of me, not them. Their team did a fantastic job at staying on top of communication, reminding me when there were things on my end that needed to be addressed. Overall, Email Composed did a great job regarding communication, and they delivered everything they promised. We communicated via email and Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Email Composed’s in-depth knowledge of Klaviyo and their teamwork skills were their strengths. Daniel and his team did a great job in using their teamwork abilities to solve issues and deliver on their promises.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There was nothing Email Composed could have improved on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Don’t be afraid to give them feedback on the copy because, ultimately, the face of your business is marketing. If they deliver something that’s not perfect, they’re more than capable of making changes as many times as you need it.

They lead strong project management; it’s a remote workflow, but their account manager is solid considering every factor. In terms of communication, we use bi-weekly meetings, email, and Slack.

They could make sure that they ask proper questions; we’re an early-stage company, and sometimes we can miss details on the project.

We were contacted directly by them but what sold us was the wonderful feedback and testimonials of other companies they had worked with.

They did a great job learning about and understanding our brand. They had a clear outline of what the project entailed and deadlines for everything. They make it very easy to communicate and give feedback each step of the way. The design team was excellent and produced beautiful graphic designs for the emails. Additionally, they had good advice on what would be successful to increase our online sales with email marketing.

We worked with several people with different specialties...each excellent at what they do.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We had huge sales success with our first email campaign and we are seeing improved growth in our email collection. Our online sessions are up 86%. Our conversion rate is up 27% and our sales attributed to marketing is up 1000%. It helped that it was Black Friday and cyber Monday during this time but the numbers were spectacular and I doubt we would have seen such sales numbers without the email campaigns .

They are very responsive and effective.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I was very impressed with their professionalism and high standard of work. They are wonderful to work and very efficient.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I can only think of possibly improving some of the writing/ language nuances? Much of the content was pulled from my website and blog so perhaps offering more on the original content. I am digging deep though...I am really happy with the work they did.

We mainly communicated via Slack and Email. Email Composed delivered ahead of time, kept me updated, and accommodated my queries — they made everything work without requiring a lot of contribution from our end.

I didn’t have time to set up our email workflows, and even if I did, I knew that an expert would be able to do it better than I could, so I hired Email Composed to do it for us.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Email Composed first set up a pop-up form on my site to help me capture email subscribers. Then, the team established various email workflows. I reviewed their designs and noted a few changes before going live.

The team has basically allowed us to send our customers a series of emails to try and turn their activity into a sale. One workflow is triggered when someone subscribes, while another is deployed when an existing subscriber views or purchases a product. The Email Composed team continues to manage our automated emails.

Email Composed reached out to me through a cold email. Typically, I delete those kinds of emails, but their design was really attractive. The fact that their email caught my attention probably meant that they could help me gain more customers, so I hired them.

The project started in July 2021 and is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I don’t have any exact metrics, but since they officially launched the email workflows, we’ve gotten back $1,000. We’re on the way to getting back our initial investment, which is terrific. Their designs also require minimal editing.

How did Email Composed perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management is excellent. Email Composed delivers before deadlines, and whenever I need them to make any changes, they do it immediately. It’s also easy to communicate with everybody on the team. I don’t have the time to learn a new program, so we just use email, and they get back to me very quickly. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They do an excellent job in so many areas. Email Composed understands my brand very well, so their work doesn’t require much editing. They’re transparent and communicative, and their turnaround time is fantastic, which is very rare.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Our time zones are very different, so we struggled through that for a bit. However, we’ve been able to work through that because they’re flexible.

Just trust that they know what they’re doing.

I’m the owner of a company called Aquatic Experts, an online store that sells consumable products for fish tanks such as aquarium filters, carbon, and other types of media to help clean the water and keep fish healthy. I previously owned a physical store and aquarium service company but re-imagined the business as an online store beginning in 2016.

What challenge were you trying to address with Email Composed?

We were spending a lot of money on Facebook ads and other types of advertising that drive traffic to our website but we weren’t converting very well. We’re busy because we sell through different channels, including Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and our own Shopify website. Between all these platforms, we didn’t really have the time to focus on responding to emails, and our conversion rate was pretty low.
 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Email Composed managed our email marketing strategy. They created campaigns that worked really well on a general level, and then we were able to go in and tweak them to make them more customized for our customers.

Our customers have live animals and spend between $20,000-$30,000 on their fish and their setup, so they need to have expert advice that won’t kill their fish. My main concern was how they were going to be able to communicate with my customers if they didn’t know anything about fish.

We made a lot of changes to the email content and their team would quickly take them, improve the emails, and send them back to us again for approval.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Before Email Composed became involved, our open rate was between 9%–15% — when they took over, it almost doubled. They’re hitting a 28% open rate, so more people are actually seeing our email content.

They also doubled our click-through rate, taking it from 1.5% to 3.3%. They converted a lot more customers and their flow really worked out well because they had 6-7 different types of email campaigns that targeted different segments of our audience. They did a really great job with conversions, and I get to watch clients convert through my emails and see what actions they take.
 
How did Email Composed perform from a project management standpoint?

In the beginning, I didn’t know exactly what I was getting myself into, so one of the first things they did was create an Excel spreadsheet detailing exactly what Email Composed was going to do and the delivery dates. They kept this list going and would mark off things as they went through the project, letting me know exactly where they were. They communicated with me many times throughout the week to make sure I was on the same page.

We mostly used Slack to communicate and share links as well as another program to actually view the products. The Email Composed team was scattered in different countries, but they were very responsive regardless of the different time zones, which I really appreciated. I also reached out to their owner a couple of times and he was able to get his team to clarify any confusion. 

We did have a few misunderstandings on minor things, but I’d just go to my in-house graphic designer to figure out what happened. Email Composed was quick to respond and take care of any issues immediately. It was never a blame game. They were a great team that was really easy to work with.
 
What did you find most impressive about them?

There are a lot of promises made in the advertising world, and sometimes these promises aren’t actually delivered. With Email Composed, we could actually see the conversion rates, and the results are right there — they truly did what they said they were going to do. Overall, my conversion went up, their campaigns worked well, and I loved their communication skills. They really are a well-rounded company — I liked the fact that they really listened to us and every change we made was perfect.
 
Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t really have anything they could improve. If we had a question or a challenge, they’d handle it very kindly. They wouldn’t charge us for every little extra thing — they’d just get things done and wanted to make us happy. I cannot think of a downside.
 
Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Let them do their job. I was hard on them in the beginning because I didn’t think they would be able to market effectively in my field. The negativity was on my side and I needed to change my mindset a bit and give them a chance. 

Their initial graphics were not what we wanted for our company because it seemed like they just didn’t quite grasp my area. Fortunately, we have an in-house graphic artist and our team was able to jump in there and guide them correctly. They may not know the business as well, but everything goes through you first — so take your time to go through everything.

We met via a B2B platform and we started working together on one and later more ecommerce clients. The systems of the company were convincing for us to get started and we never got disappointed. It's been a great experience.

Before we started working together, revenue attributed to email was almost non-existent and nowadays it's around 30% per month for several clients. They've tremendously helped us keep our client's stores profitable.
