The team filmed what we needed based on the script and edited the videos accordingly. DMV productions added 2D animations and put up basic text on the screen.

We worked together from September–November 2024. The engagement is almost complete, and I'm waiting for the final edits.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I project that sending the videos to my staff instead of going through the training process every time will save me hundreds of hours a year. The videos were very high-quality, and the lighting, production, and postproduction were great. Overall, I was very satisfied with the quality. 

How did DMV Productions perform from a project management standpoint?

DMV productions' timeline was great. If there were any delays in the timeline, it was on my side. DMV productions was very efficient. I had one particular date available for filming, and they made it work. DMV productions delivered the video drafts very quickly and communicated the timeframe. We even got the first draft a little earlier than expected.

DMV productions delivered work on budget and provided great suggestions during the postproduction process. The first draft delivered was very good and needed minimal editing. DMV productions was very responsive to edits and communicative via Zoom and email.

DMV productions wasn't just looking to make a sale. They made sure they were the right fit. DMV productions was good at communicating what they needed from us, ensuring a smooth process overall.

For our first project, they created a book trailer based on my memoir for marketing purposes. They also created a short documentary film to celebrate the 150th anniversary of my church. The book trailer DMV productions created won a silver Telly Award. However, other metrics are hard to follow because the content they created for us had marketing money invested.

Follow their lead. They're particular about getting things right, so if they don't feel they can be successful with the information you're giving, they'll ask for more communication, not less. I encourage anyone to take it because it leads to a better product. They care about the product they produce, so they're very engaged and will follow up if they feel they need more information to deliver a world-class product.

What was the scope of their involvement?

DMV productions provides AV production services for our events. We don't have any IT or AV sound production recording staff, so they've arranged all of our AV for events and various recordings. They also do a lot of photography for internal memos and our organization's public channels. Additionally, they've helped with AV needs for private meetings to conduct private business. Moreover, they've worked with us to consult on some technology upgrades in the office.

After an initial event DMV productions helped us with, we worked with Soma. She provided us with some recommendations for events over the next few months. We quickly realized that they could do everything related to AV production, so we've kept working with them since.

Prior to the event, DMV Productions provided guidance for setting up the video production and collaborated on schedule of video production during the event. At the event, DMV Productions captured footage of keynotes, sessions, interviews, Broll. After the event, DMV Productions produced designed recordings of the keynotes and educational sessions with edits and branding. DMV Productions also produced a 60 second highlight video of the Symposium with interviews, voiceover, B-roll, and branding.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The creation of a high quality 1 minute highlight reel, branded and designed recordings of all individual conference sessions, with presentation overlay, the compilation of all raw footage for future marketing/promotional use.

DMV Productions was wonderful to work with, they were always timely with the next steps in production, consistent in follow-up, and thorough in responding to our feedback and edits. I am a Senior Marketing Manager at a non-profit organization focused on job training for young adults.

For what projects/services did your company hire DMV productions, and what were your goals?

Each year we host an alumni summit for 200-300 selected alumni from around the country. This is a highly interactive, engaging, and fun event that we were not able to host since 2019 due to the pandemic. As we came back together in person in 2022, we wanted a produced video to capture the summit as well as a way to utilize the time we had with alumni to set up recorded interviews in-person. DMV Productions helped us to capture each event at the summit and create two recap videos as well as record video and audio interviews with our alumni so we have a bank of footage to pull from for future needs.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We were looking for companies in the D.C. area that were familiar with conference type event recaps and could capture and produce content well.

We started with a project pre-planning meeting to go over the schedule and content we needed to capture, answer any logistical questions, etc. Once we approached the day of content capture, DMV showed up early to scout the location and to set up the interview room. We then worked together on site to make sure each item was being captured and that interviews went smoothly. After the conference, DMV scheduled a post-production call to review timelines for content review, video editing, etc.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We worked alongside the Production Manager and Head videographer and editor who helped us understand hurdles in the content capture, provided recommendations on best use of content and outlined each step for us. They were able to turn our feedback around quickly and took it all into consideration for the final product.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We have shared the videos both internally and externally. Externally, alumni and other supporters really engaged with the final products. Internally, we heard that the outcome was one of the best recap videos we have made for our summits and it was received with praise.

The project manager was each to communicate with, asked follow up questions and kept everything streamlined. When timing needed to shift on their end they did communicate that and shared new dates.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

DMV took the time at the content capture to think through what would look good in the final product as well as balanced the internal needs we have to have some footage captured that we knew would not be used. They sought to understand the organization and our goals to ensure they were in lockstep with where we needed to be.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

My only area of improvement would be post-production timelines to stay put vs. shifting however they did a great job at communicating those shifts and making up the time in future stages to keep us on final deliverable track.

What was the scope of their involvement?

DMV productions assisted the creation of two videos. The first video required them to supplement existing footage with additional filming and do the editing as well. We wanted an 8-minute video that told three distinct stories. They worked with one of our board members to brainstorm each story and plan out how they would look. They also implemented cinematic text effects as part of the post-production effort. We’re a part of a national organization, so they edited the video into slightly different versions by including information from different cities. The second video project was near competition, so we only contracted them to edit it.

Both videos were extraordinarily well-received and raised quite a bit of money over the course of two fundraising events. We were given almost $500,000 in gifts and pledges. It seems like everyone loves the videos they’ve helped us produce.

Another board member was involved in the day-to-day editing process. However, it’s my understanding that everything went smoothly. They quickly provided contract information and invoices whenever necessary.

Patrick saw our program in action and understood why it's important. He connected with what we were doing that was evident in the work he produced. I could tell how much attention and care went into the final product.

It helps to start a project with a detailed vision, but also approach the situation with an open mind. Additionally, having a working knowledge of video production is useful. It can be tricky if both parties don’t start the engagement with a mutual understanding of the task at hand.

DMV productions had under two weeks to edit 90-minute program down to an hour-long television broadcast. This effort included audio and visual editing of musical performances to create smooth transitions and cover segments that were cut for time. Patrick (Co-owner, DMV productions) worked with me to make timeline edits. We shared the drafts with the client and television network for feedback and he’d continue to edit the footage for approval. We also required them to edit portions of the acceptance speeches and concerts into digestible web content that could be posted online and to social media. They used Adobe After Effects to create the network’s specific credit slides.

They were professional and honest about what they could do within the strict timeline. This informed my decisions regarding how to work my list of priorities into the program. They made it easy to accomplish what we needed to in the allotted amount of time. If something couldn’t be done, they worked with us to come up with solutions without charging additional time.

They offer a laid-back, yet professional atmosphere. Patrick always knew what needed to be down and how to do it. Questions regarding feedback often evolved into conversations about creating the best product possible.

I’d like to see them utilize top-of-the-line equipment and software. Their computers made several errors that ended up costing us time. However, I’m genuinely pleased with how they executed the project.

Know what you what to achieve with the editing process and don’t be afraid if you don’t know how to accomplish it. Phrase your requirements in a way that the editor understands. If a directive isn’t clear the first time, don’t just repeat continuously. I’ve seen many producers waste time with that approach.
