I’m the CEO for an automated investment management firm. It’s a fintech, B2C company. We were the second player in the market in this new area in Australia. Now, there are more than 5–6 players. We’re considered to be one of the top leading players in the market in Australia.

What challenge were you trying to address with Digitant Consulting Pvt. Ltd.?

We’re a consumer-based business. We have a license to provide financial advice and to manage people’s money. We do wealth management online. The most important criterion is trust. We wanted to build trust among the people in Australia. If we don’t gain their trust, they’re not going to deposit their money with us. We needed to have a superior product, team, position, and brand management. We needed a company to help us with this.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They’ve guided us to communicate better to our customers through email. They’ve helped with social media communications. We’re active in Quora and they give us input on that. They have tools which tell all the keywords that are popular or trending. They also watch for opportunities for us to be more relevant among those keywords. We create a lot of content about those keywords. They do inbound marketing, SEO, digital marketing, and brand management. All of it boils down to building trust in the market.

The second section of services is data analytics of how clients interact on our website, if our product is engaging enough, and if we can improve the product. They determine how the lead conversions are happening, where they’re coming from, and how many of those leads are generated by the activity that we do proactively. We want to optimize our lead conversion mechanisms much more.

I work with their founder/managing director and two other people.

How did you come to work with Digitant Consulting Pvt. Ltd.?

I frequently travel to India, which is how I found them. We started off with a few small projects and progressively started doing more. One reason we chose them is that we were mindful of cost.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $18,000 so far. I assume that by the end of this year, it’ll be around $40,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in July 2017 and the work is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I was initially skeptical whether we could really pull it off with Digitant Consulting. The work they generated was good. I’m happy with their service.

Working with Digitant Consulting with minimal advertising, we get a good number of leads. We have less buzz than our competitors, but we are reaching the people we want to reach and converting them. Our competitors spend a lot of money and don’t getting client conversion rates like we do. Our margins are much more. I know that a couple of our competitors’ margins are negative.

How did Digitant Consulting Pvt. Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

I have a conversation with them about once a week. They send detailed reports, which are helpful. I spend a good amount of time reviewing the reports they give me every week. I can see all the details, even when I’m traveling. If I have questions, I call or email them. Their responsiveness is good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I never shopped around or moved between different providers to do a comparison.

Are there any areas they could improve?

None of our content has gone viral. That’s the dream everyone has. I hope it happens.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

With Digitant Consulting, from day one, I’ve been exceedingly clear in my communication. I wanted the communication to be efficient, relevant to my business, and promoting realistic metrics. I pushed them in that direction too. Anyone who wants to work with them should communicate the same way. Have a good amount of communication initially so that you understand their working style and they understand your strategies. Otherwise, there will be a false set of expectations or completely different goals that are misunderstood that will lead to issues later on. You need to spend a few hours every week interacting with them initially. Sometimes, it can be frustrating because you need to go into the details and hear them out. It’s better you do that sooner than later. Spend more time speaking to them initially to make sure they know exactly what you want and you can also know if they are able to deliver or not.

What challenge were you trying to address with Digitant?

We wanted to increase our awareness online and improve recall when consumers shopped for groceries. Specifically, we wanted a partner who could bring a good understanding of the social media space. They should help us improve our reach via social media in order to generate business inquiries.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We have a health-food focus and wanted to promote our products in that sense by building a brand persona. Initially, we established the areas we wanted to increase on our platform. There was not a lot of content on our page, so we worked on this before driving traffic to it. For the first three months, Digitant built our brand presence and consolidated it with a clear content strategy. We had a lot of back-and-forth around the content since we didn't want to hand over all ownership of our brand to Digitant. They brought in technical expertise and put everything together. There were some pieces which they developed on their own, but we were more involved with the rest. Once we established a reasonable amount of online content, Digitant started promoting our page and driving engagement with customers.

We found Digitant through the friend of a friend of a friend. We previewed their work and started the collaboration.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

In order to address our requirements, Digitant proposed an overall package that used a scientific approach. They ran a concerted campaign to drive higher traffic, with impressive results. Within six months, our social media metrics improved by over 800%. The growth has now stabilized to over 50% month on month. We also have a steady funnel of distributor leads on our website, which was a secondary objective.

How did Digitant perform from a project management standpoint?

Digitant assigned a client manager to oversee our engagement, but the nature of our work required our direct involvement for many of the activities. Digitant stuck to the plan we agreed upon. There may have been occasions when they required extra resources, but we didn't get involved in that side of the management. The project was well-planned, and Digitant stuck to the schedule they gave us. We primarily communicated over the phone and via email. We met in person every 4–6 weeks.

What did you find most impressive about Digitant?

They understood that as brand owners, we would need oversight to ensure our brand vision was not compromised. This willingness to function independently while providing a view into the activities was extremely critical for us. While we already had a good understanding of the messaging and content we needed to put out, Digitant came through for us in terms of understanding how to reach our audience and what kind of media we should use.

Are there any areas Digitant could improve?

We were quite hands-on with the content and proofread everything. The grammar in Digitant's deliverables required a bit more work from us than we would have liked.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Digitant?

If we engaged with any company for social media work, we need to understand that it's a different field from branding. It's rare to have a cost-effective partner who can bring a good understanding of both, and of our brand and industry in particular. We have worked with other companies and contracted a social media agency, but they didn't become involved to the level we were looking for. Ultimately, we will know our brand better than anyone else. That means either we hold the partner's hand until we are comfortable with them or remain in ownership of our brand. It's unfair to expect any marketing agency to have a perfect understanding of the client's business and brand. Customers who wash their hands of the project and do not stay engaged may not see the best performance.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

When we started, we had very clear targets to drive certain users to our website. We also wanted the top 30 keywords that drive our business. In the beginning, the traffic improved but for the past nine months, the growth has been stagnant. More than 65% of the traffic comes from SEM ads, but we have been disappointed that we have not seen growth in the traffic. Digitant Consulting did not have a clear strategy on the social platforms, and we have not seen any results.

I can’t think of anything extraordinary about Digitant Consulting.

Digitant Consulting needs a lot of help from the client for the blog posts and articles. We have told Digitant Consulting that there must be different activities to drive traffic.
