The client is International Campus GmbH based in Berlin, Germany.

We first made a test campaign in order to learn about the response of the market and different target groups, and we are now working on

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our main business metrics significantly grew YoY and we managed to improve the cost per acquisition by 40%.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We both use the same platforms for communication so the communication was very easy. We used Asana and Slack. Digital Ant is always at hand by other means too (such as email or phone). We started with stating KPIs, doing a research, preparing creatives, setting up campaigns and their ongoing optimisation + rotation of creatives. We also meet weekly and look into the results.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their young but quite experienced collective.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Probably only one thing - copywriting for the ads. We did quite some back and forthing on it :)

International Campus develops and manages a range of innovative coliving and student housing products in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary. As Marketing Manager CEE, I have been responsible for all marketing activities concerning the Austrian assets and the new project in Prague.

THE FIZZ Prague will be IC's first asset in the Czech Republic. In order to successfully market the student housing concept, we teamed up with a local expert - Digital Ant. This included a digital validation campaign in 2019 and, currently, the launch campaign for the asset's opening in autumn 2020.

What were your goals for this project?

The validation/test campaign aimed to gain a deep understanding of the student housing market in Prague by gathering feedback from the target audiences. The results of the campaigns were then - among other - used to set up a marketing strategy for the project. They also lay the groundworks for the current launch campaign.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

One of my former colleagues met Lukas at a conference in Prague. I was not involved in the project at that time. However, there were other agencies under consideration. Digital Ants offer was the best one in terms of price/performance ratio - plus they have extensive knowledge in relevant areas (local market, marketing coliving/-working concepts, digital marketing, ...).

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

Digital Ant planned and managed the overall campaigns. This included strategy, media planning, creative concept and assets, tracking and reporting. We worked with different online channels, such as Facebook/Instagram, Google but also Yandex and Vkontakte. The latter two channels were new (marketing) territory for IC but key to reach parts of our target audiences. Digital Ant initially identified these channels and also helped us to gain a foothold there. As the Czech market also led to dealing with two new foreign languages (Czech and Russian), Digital Ant also supported us with translating, for example, website copy. Overall, Digital Ant has always offered a helping hand in any situation. I appreciate this mindset as well as their forwardthinking way of working.

What was the team composition?

Lukas was and is the project lead for both campaigns. He worked with specialists from his team for the different tasks (creative, PPC, ...). We were regularly in contact with him and three other employees. All of them had excellent expertise in their fields of work and always thought along.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The validation campaign showed that student housing is in great demand in Prague. We successfully identified the key channels for our launch campaign and were able to set up a strategy. Currently, the launch campaign is in process and everything is on track and we are happy with the amount of leads so far.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Lukas delegated the tasks to his team. When it came to special details that required more attention, we directly talked to the respective responsible person. Some things took a little more time than planned and could have been a bit more structured - from both sides - but in the end, everything worked out perfectly fine. Digital Ant is very flexible in terms of sudden changes or schedulling a meeting!

What did you find most impressive about this company?

As mentioned before, I really appreciate Digital Ant's willingness to support in any matter. Lukas and his team think ahead, suggest new possibilities and offer advice as well as a helping hand at any time. This is - among others - exactly what I expect from a good agency: giving the clients new perspectives and assist in choosing the best option!

Are there any areas for improvement?

During the launch campaign, we started having weekly progress meetings, also for discussing the current status and next steps from both sides. In retrospect, they would have been helpful for the validation campaign, too.

The partner had to represent the full role of CMO and have all the executive capacity to create an acquisition strategy, manage performance campaigns and business consultations. At the same time, he had to have a similar mindset and perspective on how to build companies.

In the beginning, it was necessary to create an overall strategy for how to enter the market and gain the first customers. This included branding, value proposition, communication strategies, selecting appropriate channels and, last but not least, launching digital campaigns. Subsequently, the campaigns were continuously optimised in an agile way.

Simply put, we tested what worked and what didn't work, gathered market feedback, and redefined tactics and strategy on a weekly basis.

What was the team composition?

Digital Ants were a CMO of the project. Part of the core team was a man who managed all marketing activities together with the company's management. CMO had an executive team on hand to take care of creatives and performance campaigns.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Their work met all expectations in terms of outputs. In addition, they added value in terms of consulting and overall business ownership. The results of the project influenced how best they could and were very active in the proposals for changes and improvements within their competence.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

CMO was an integral part of the core team (CEO, CTO, COO) and managed all marketing activities. At the same time, he was part of the statuses with the investor. He acted as one of the main communication persons in the project. We collaborated on a daily basis through Slack, each week we had an internal status, preceded by a report for the past week.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I appreciate business ownership the most. For us, Digital Ant is not a regular supplier, but a partner / co-founder of our startup projects. They do not think as an agency, but as entrepreneurs. They do not focus only on outputs, but mainly on the success of business. Business ownership is best represented by their agility. He doesn't try to blindly exhaust marketing budgets, but they thinks about how to do things to make sense.

Are there any areas for improvement?

At the beginning, a person who was not completely suitable for his role was involved in the project. But based on the feedback, there was a correction and everything worked well.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Digital Ant improved our COA by over 70 %. They helped us build a leads funnel that helped us attract both the customers in the DO or THINK phase, but we were also running SEE phase campaigns. Thanks to their reporting, analysis and suggestions we were able to double the close rate.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Very flexible and fast. Weekly alignment calls plus quick Slack communication to solve daily issues, changes and iterate campaigns.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I love the complex approach. When there was something wrong with measuring, they solved it immediately and directly with our IT. When we needed to make changes in our product quickly, they would analyse the impact pro-actively and took care of everything that had to be changed or re-set. They were constantly thinking with us - why things aren't working, what should we change to improve (even if it was outside of digital).

I was working together with Digital Ant UX/UI graphic designer on creating the design of the whole campaing. Then I briefed in their ppc / Facebook Ads specialist, who helped me with creating the audiences, texting of the ads, setting up and managing the campaigns. Digital Ant analyst helped me with setting up the Google Analytics account, the triggers for Google Tag Manager events and all the conversion targets. It was a small, but very skilled and proffesional team working closely together.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The campaign had a huge success amongs the targeted community. Since we had limited amout of give aways for participants. The Facebook campaing hit the targeted audience so well, we had to slow down the traffic In the first week of the campaing to be able to meet the potential in the next weeks and get some more time managing with the send outs.

For the whole time we kept in very close day to day comminication via different tools. All my request had almost immediate response on the side of Digital Ant team.

I feel every person in Digital Ant team is a top specialist in his or her field including hard skills as well as strategic thinking. In my career I've met very few people as highly professional in digital marketing channels and analytics.

First, they shared some of their knowledge from other projects to help direct me in the best strategies for my campaign. Then, they handled our social media campaign and did some work on our website.

There was a team of five people; I interacted with three of them.

I worked with them in the past. For this project, I ran a competition between companies, and they won it.

We started working together in October 2019, and our engagement is ongoing. The event is postponed until October 2020 due to COVID-19.

Things went smoothly. Their communication was good and we used Slack. They were friendly and professional.

One of the most important things to me was their ability to think beyond the execution,  to the goals of the project. They’re very experienced and share their knowledge to help us go above and beyond expectations.

Take the risk to work with a new company. Make a good brief, and be open with them to help the process move along quickly.

We asked them to help us with performance marketing in 5 markets (Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Austria). The cooperation covered everything from initial analysis, settings, over campaign management to reporting, and ongoing optimization. They were also involved in the testing of seven new markets and contributed to the decision of whether to enter or not.

The main goals were: - to achieve a monthly target of leads (nr. of consultations) - to lower our cost per lead and keep that level in the long term - to improve SEM and SEO

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

First, they prepared an analysis for us with a bunch of recommendations and improvements that could be easily implemented and brought much better numbers after a few days. After that, we decided to start a collaboration.

Brand of invisible aligners was shortly before launch and we had to replace the current provider. Digital Ant took over performance marketing and was responsible for campaigns and measurement.

What was the team composition?

We were in communication on a daily basis with our account manager and once a week with the owner for all the strategic discussions. They were also ready to give us support whenever unexpected issues occurred.

They were able to achieve KPI in the Czech market every month.

We set a weekly update which turned out great. Besides that, we appreciate fast responses and immediate availability.

I am the managing director and co-founder of Ackee GmbH. We’re focused on designing and developing mobile apps.

What challenge were you trying to address with Digital Ant?

We wanted to expand in the German market as a service provider. Germany has quite a big market, so we needed some strategy. One was to have a PR presence, but we needed help maintaining our digital footprint.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Their main goal was to make our website visible and to make a conversion channel out of the website which means that German clients would find the website and that it would be relevant people and not just random traffic. They proposed a strategy to us which in this case, was starting a Google ad campaign.

Together, we defined single personas who would be targets of these campaigns and we have curated Google ads. Digital Ant is in charge of those Google ad campaigns.

What is the team composition?

In the beginning, when we were defining the strategy, I was in contact with one of the founders who are in the role of analytics. Together, we defined the strategy. We were then assigned a PPC specialist from their side who we do weekly updates with, but the founder is still involved when we need some advice or when we need an evaluation of our approach.

How did you come to work with Digital Ant?

We knew about them and we approached them when we needed help with the website in the German market and then we started the cooperation. We trusted that they would deliver what we needed.

How much have you invested in them?

We have spent between $5,000–$10,000 USD.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our cooperation began in January 2017, and it’s ongoing.

They’ve satisfied our strategy for bringing traffic to the website using PPC. They have been delivering good results for more than three years.

How did Digital Ant perform from a project management standpoint?

This project is quite small so there is no need for big tooling. We have weekly status updates where we use Google Meet for calls and we have a shared Google spreadsheet. They have also created a reporting tool for us and they present us with the results in terms of how we are proceeding, and we react to the things we measure and that we see.

It is an ongoing process of evaluating what we are achieving, and they always run this process, and I as the managing director don’t need to be involved in detail. When we get a new client, I will ask them where they found us and the answer is usually on the internet and I am trying to distinguish if they came from the PPC campaign or organic traffic, and Digital Ant is responsible for the PPC. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They are very flexible to our needs.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would be good if they could deliver more services. For example, we do PR in-house, and if they would do it as well, I think it would be good, but I know they are focused on digital performance marketing.

For the things they are doing, I don’t see anything they could do better. It may be because I don’t understand the topic as well, but if I am getting results and I don’t need to go in too deep, I am satisfied.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be really proactive when it comes to the status of things. When they don’t have any input from us, they cannot do their job really well.
