BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a marketing project manager for a global shipping logistics company. We work with large clients to serve their needs for shipping, warehousing, forwarding pieces, and generally providing them with our logistical infrastructure.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with CroatiaTech?

We have a system that our clients use to manage their shipping, locations, and warehousing. They use it to book available slots, reserve pieces, and things like that. The infrastructure that we had was outdated and clunky. We wanted to revamp the backend to both make it more user-friendly. The code needed modernized, and we needed it to integrate APIs.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

CroatiaTech rebuilt the backend of our system working with Java, Angular, React, and .Net. They also provided graphic design. We launched the updated platform within six months. Now they offer maintenance and update it based on client feedback.

What is the team composition?

We had five developers and a graphic designer on the team.

How did you come to work with CroatiaTech?

One of our team members was Croatian and suggested them to us. They have an office in Salt Lake City, so we were able to meet them. They had the skill set that we needed at the right price, which is why we picked them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $370,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from February–August 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Based on internal feedback, we have a lot fewer tickets logged for problems. Integration with our partners has been easier based on the system that they've developed for us.

How did CroatiaTech perform from a project management standpoint?

They adapted their team to use whatever we used internal, which included Slack, Jira, and Basecamp. They were very flexible to our needs and were ahead of schedule on basically all of the items that we agreed upon, which I was pretty impressed with.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team’s extensive experience meant that they could guide us when we reached points of uncertainty. We worked with another outside firm that provided consulting to us on the overall direction and project management. CroatiaTech was experienced and knowledgeable enough that they could speak to us on the same level as that other company. We could use them as a second opinion to make sure everything that was stated to us by the consultants was correct, which was really valuable to us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything. We didn’t have any problems. The five people that we worked with were top notch. It took a bit of effort at the beginning to adapt their project management system to ours—but that was going above and beyond what we expected anyway.
