We hired Cosmonaut to help us build a customizable website.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We originally had a WordPress template, but we reached the limit of what we could do with it, so they built a customizable website for us. We provided them with the design and the RFP, and they sent us the quote for it. 

Cosmonaut created an entire platform for users to sign up and create profiles. In addition to this, they created three different user bases for the site where we can log in as an administrator and approve listings and reviews, and then there are two pages designed for the educators and vendors where they can connect with each other. 

They’ve been working with HTML and CSS on the frontend, and PHP on the backend. It is a full-scale web platform where educators can request a quote, and vendors can respond, so it is a communication platform as well. 

AWS hosts the website, and Cosmonaut is providing maintenance for us.

We have a project manager, and we work with a team of developers that ranges from 2–8 people. The team changes in size based on the amount of work that we need completed.

We’ve invested between $10,000–$20,000 so far. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in January 2020, and it is ongoing. We just recently signed a one-year contract with them to perform maintenance on the website.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The platform is just about ready at this point. We’re still working on redoing the copy of the website and a few other modifications, but for the most part, the platform is up and running. We’re planning on doing a marketing campaign soon, and we’re going to launch it to recruit vendors. 

How did Cosmonaut Technologies Pvt Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?

We really enjoy working with our current project manager. He makes it really easy for us, and when we go over stuff, he understands what we’re looking for, so we’re very impressed with the project management. 

We use Bitbucket for all the code, and we meet via Zoom and Google Meet. We mostly communicate through the phone, and our project manager gives us weekly updates. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Cosmonaut makes the experience easy for us. We sit down with our project manager and explain what we want, and then he relays that to the team. The process isn’t ever frustrating because we feel understood. 

They meet deadlines and are always open to hearing our ideas. If we don’t agree about something, we work through it and move on because they provide such a fantastic level of communication.

During office hours, they are always quick to respond, and we call for updates on the weekend. Their flexibility has been a really big key in making this partnership work. 

They also bring a can-do attitude to everything we do, especially once we stepped away from WordPress and didn’t have limitations on what we could do. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

When we aren’t working with our project manager or he’s not able to be on a call, there are times that we struggle with the presentation of ideas.

I am the CEO of a language services company. We are a software company that is working in the field of language localization. Our company creates tools and technology that help create efficiencies in the translation industry. We have machine translation APIs, and we have software that enables you to translate websites on the fly.

We needed someone to help us with website development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Cosmonaut Technologies Pvt Ltd created a couple of corporate websites for us. One is for our organization and two more for our products. Our requirements were very simple. We are a startup, and we had a very basic website that needed to be made in WordPress. There were not too many bells and whistles.

We had one point of contact who took care of things, set up regular meetings, and gave us regular updates, so we were happy.

We had put out a few posts and the sales team at Cosmonaut reached out to us. We spoke with them and evaluated them along with others, and we chose them to be our vendor.

They seemed to have a good amount of experience, and they were in India whereas some of the other vendors we spoke to were based outside of India. They were really responsive, and we felt that they were a good fit for us.

The project started in June 2020 and was completed in November 2020.

We measured their success in terms of quality and timeliness. We are very satisfied with their work. They were very responsive and the quality of the work on the websites was satisfactory. It wasn’t something superlative, but they were on time, they gave us good creatives and when we didn’t like something, they were always ready with alternate options.

If the communication chain breaks, a project can spill over by a month and you won’t even know so we appreciated their responsiveness. They were very responsive in terms of making sure that the tasks were done, they followed up and it flowed out quickly.

We mostly used email and phone and we used a basic Google sheet to track the tasks, but we didn’t use a specific project management tool.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate that they are very customer-centric. They spent the time to hear us and understand our requirements. By virtue of that, whatever suggestions that they came back with were very close to what we were looking for.

They didn’t waste much time in trying to finalize the look and feel and what the messaging was and how the website should work. They invested the right amount of time in the beginning to make sure that the project ran smoothly and that showed their experience.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing comes to mind.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would certainly recommend people to try them out if they have similar requirements to ours, and in fact, we have already recommended them. There are a few people I know that were looking for similar services and I did recommend Cosmonaut to them.

The vendor has provided point to point details for the additions required and guided us very well. So we decided to hand over the project to them.

Once we selected this vendor, we had lined up our meetings with them. After 3-4 meetings the vendor has presented a initial design of the Home page of the website. We discussed our goals and objectives that we need to be updated in the website with our team and provided feedback to the vendor and the vendor has designed the rest pages of the website.

Initially we were assigned a Project Manager who support us and serve as a main point of contact throughout the Project. I were spoke with him only for any support I required during the Project. The Project manager had made aware to me that 2 front end & 2 back-end Developers are working on our project.

Within 1 months after our New Website, we received 20% more inquiries from the Contact us page of our Website and also we notice the traffic that increased by 25-30%.

They’ve been working with Laravel, PHP, and general frontend development work. We created a mobile app that included two management dashboards. They also developed a solution for utility subscription billing. It includes a dashboard that allows customers to check their water and electricity consumption. After I architected a wireframe and designed the product, they executed on the code.

We started working together in November 2019, and the collaboration is ongoing. I’m working currently on a management app that I’m engaging them to help with.

Compared to other vendors, they deliver quality service and are consistently willing to provide support. Overall, this has been a good experience. The solution delivered is still functioning without any crashes, glitches, or security concerns.

I would like our project manager to spend a little more time coordinating and following up with his team. Sometimes, I have to push him to have his developers correct bugs. Other than that, project management went well. They’re strong communicators. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re honest and execute quickly when needed. Instantly communicating and correcting bugs, the team worked quickly and remained proactive. They’re able to understand requirements and deliver products that meet them.  

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’d appreciate more attention being given to project management. However, they execute very well. We don’t often have to explain ourselves more than once.

So far, I’m satisfied and recommend them. They’re flexible with payments and timelines. It’s rare to find a team that executes as they do.

I’m the owner of TrippyWords, a marketplace for content writers.

What challenge were you trying to address with Cosmonaut Technologies Pvt Ltd?

I needed someone to develop a prototype of my web platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

My platform allows content writers to write and publish their own journals and submit pitches for open projects. I tasked them Cosmonaut with building the whole web platform and a set of APIs. I’d already completed part of the basic design, including how certain sections would look, and then they would get my approval on the rest of the design aspects. Initially, I wanted to do the backend in Node.js but we switched to PHP Lavarel to match my budget and their resource availability. They’re building the frontend with HTML and CSS.

The platform has interactive and crossover design functionalities that allow different user types (writers and clients) to talk via a messaging system, which produces notifications. Users can also create and customize their own profiles based on their personal preferences. Visitors to the site can follow their favorite writers, which we track in an analytics system. The biggest piece they’re building is an admin dashboard that only my company can access and lets us remove offensive content. They showed me prototype drawings, in the beginning, to help me understand what they were thinking of.

I found them through Upwork. It’s relatively easy to find frontend developers in India but I wanted someone who was technically strong on the backend side and understood the functionality I needed. Cosmonaut was strong on the backend and I had trouble coordinating with some of my other choices.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working with them since April 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We found a lot of bugs during user acceptance testing on the first set of code, but those are currently being solved. QA on the second draft is much more stable, and although the project isn’t quite complete, we should be good to go live shortly.

They've taken on a complex project and are almost finished. At the end of the day, this is a prototype that I want to test in the market; if it works, I can come back and make an improved version on a different framework.

How did Cosmonaut Technologies Pvt Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve replied to every message we’ve sent through their dedicated email support, usually within 48 hours, and they’re also available on the phone or through WhatsApp. I haven’t met them in person but they respond and communicate well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their support service has been most impressive. They give me the exact reason why something isn’t working and take care of it; bugs don’t resurface after they’ve been reported the first time.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their testing wasn’t strong initially but it improved later when they completed the code. While most of their clients come to them in a hurry, meaning an Agile approach may not be feasible, I would have liked them to work in a more iterative fashion to finish the project earlier. However, my requirements weren’t 100% clear—they had to figure the project out based on my ideas—which is probably why they took a Waterfall approach, accounting for the extra time.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have a clear discussion with the founder before starting the project. He handles the client relationship and was the one who convinced me to move from Node.JS to PHP Laravel. This helped me evaluate my idea and save money.

Cosmonaut combats the intrinsic considerations that come with any offshore partnership. If you designate a dedicated point of contact to communicate assets and information, you will have an even easier time. Make sure that person has enough technical and product experience to understand when an outsourced company needs more information or better explanation.
