Project management was conducted very well with Art taking lead in all communications. Items were delivered on time and responses were very timely, including responding to comments through Figma. The design elements were creative and professional, the workflow was well managed, and the responsiveness was excellent. It was easy to work with Creative Consensus, and I would highly recommend them to other businesses looking for web design and brand asset creation.

The only thing that could have been helpful would be emails with tasking bullet-pointed to make it easier for our team to respond. We were often lagging and needed better clarity on what was needed in order to stay on target and make sure we had everything handled on our end.

Consensus Creative delivered an excellent website for us - one that we're proud to showcase for our clients and prospects. The website loads significantly quicker, looks and feels much more professional, and is generally a lot better for lead conversion.  At first I was hesitant to budget for a design agency when there are extremely cheap self-serve options - but after going through the process I fully understand how much expertise and skill is involved in making a website work properly. Outside of the backend, the team's knowledge was clear and they were able to put best-practices in place that will make ongoing development an easy process.

Key deliverable was to take a simple book promo site (that we had done ourselves) and convert it to an information portal covering the SuperAging revolution -- i.e., longevity and "getting older without getting old." This included redesign, considerable work in the Word Press back end, SEO, some graphics consultation, transferring site to a new URL and creating appropriate log-ins, email, etc., doing some work with our Mail Chimp e-marketing account, and developing single-focus landing pages or microsites for specific communications needs.

Though my experience with Consensus Creative was overwhelmingly positive, refining their initial project estimation process could be beneficial. There was a very minimal gap between the expected project estimation and when it was actually completed but that can always be improved!

I’m the digital marketing manager at Carmanah Technologies. Our marketing team takes care of our sister companies’ websites, and Diablo Controls is one of them. We operate in the traffic safety industry.

What challenge were you trying to address with Consensus Creative?

Diablo Controls used a CMS called Marketing 360 for their website, and they decided to sunset it by May 2023. Given that, we needed help migrating the website to WordPress and making design improvements. If we didn’t do the migration process, the website would cease to exist. As a result, we needed to complete it within a short timeframe. We hired Consensus to help us do that. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Consensus worked on migrating our sister company’s website. The team also created additional functionality for our distribution section, where users could view cards per distributor found on the website. In other words, they updated the site’s design to make it look and feel more modern. They ensured all calls to action and links were visible on each page while migrating all backend details, including meta tags and descriptions for SEO purposes. 

For the designs, we gave their team the website’s brand colors. We collaborate with them to understand where to add colors to make it look and feel more like the older website while maintaining its branding. 

They’ve also offered to do SEO for us, but I handle that for the website. However, we’ve contracted them to do monthly website maintenance. They’ll update plug-ins and determine any necessary tweaks or fixes from a server level. They’ll also look into the security aspects of the website. 

What is the team composition?

I mainly interact with Art (Founder & Creative Director), but two teammates have worked on the project from Consensus. 

How did you come to work with Consensus Creative?

Our criteria for the project were quite straightforward. More than anything, we had a tight timeframe that we needed to meet. Consensus gave me an extremely detailed proposal, and they’d done a similar project. As a result, I had a reference to see exactly what they could do for us. Further, the feedback and level of thinking I got from speaking with Art made me feel that hiring them was the right choice.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $13,500, including tax.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project lasted from April–May 2023, but we still work with them for their maintenance services.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The website’s look and feel are better, and the migration has been absolutely spot-on. We’ve experienced no issues there. All the links are checked, and Consensus has gone above and beyond what we’re expecting — we wanted a minimum design lift, but they offered many additional suggestions on what we could improve. They’ve given our site an updated look and feel. 

How did Consensus Creative perform from a project management standpoint?

Consensus is great for meeting deadlines. For instance, I needed help over the weekend because the website was down and had some server caching issues. They were able to help me even if it was the weekend. Ultimately, they met our stringent timeline with 5–6 days to spare. 

Since the project has a short timeframe, we haven’t relied on additional tools. As a result, we mainly only use emails and Zoom calls. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their attention to detail is impressive. On top of that, they can meet deadlines without too much pushback. We don’t need to hound them repeatedly, which we’ve had to do with vendors in the past. Moreover, they ensure every element is as good as possible within our timeframe.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could have better communication. If Art is unavailable, I hope I could talk to someone as a backup. To be fair, this happened only once or twice, and Art was able to get in touch with me as soon as he could. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Ensure you mentioned everything in the proposal. The team needs to ensure you’re clear on the project’s objectives. Consensus will deliver their promise based on the contract they’ve signed, so everything should be crystal clear from the start. 

Additionally, limit your expectations regarding vendors' operations and be sure about what you want. In our case, I knew everything the project needed, and the team hit the mark on everything.

Consensus Creative has built a new website for us from scratch. In the beginning, we gave them some information about our existing site and discussed what features wanted on the site and how we wanted it to look. From there, they proceeded with the process, handling both the development and design work. They implemented the features we requested, including a customer information form, and created a mock-up of the homepage. They also wrote a lot of content for our site.

Their team has already completed the site, but we continue to work with them in implementing any changes or updates that we need.

It’s too early to share any specific metrics, but our new website is starting to make a huge impact in our industry — in fact, some of our competitors have become nervous after taking a look at our site. We’ve also had 4–5 different suppliers ask us where we had our site built.

All deliverables have been completed on time, and Consensus Creative has hit every project milestone. We’ve worked with several different companies before but working with their team is probably one of the best experiences we’ve ever had.

We’ve been happy with everything Consensus Creative has done. If we had to start over, we’d definitely use them again.

How did Consensus Creative perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve delivered everything on time. During development, Consensus Creative’s team booked weekly video calls to keep us updated. We also received emails almost daily until they completed the site so we could know what was going on.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were a little leery about using somebody who wasn’t in the same province as our office, but it hasn’t made a difference at all. Everything has been seamless.

We just finished the site, so it’s hard to say.
