Technical Partnership to build Digital Muncipality
Stadtwerke Leipzig is a municipal energy company that supplies electricity, gas, and heating. It is the market leader in electricity and heating in Leipzig and at the same time one of the ten largest companies of its kind in Germany.
Stadtwerkes are traditional municipal utilities that are facing the advancing energy transformation. They lose them to dynamically developing suppliers that can build a more appealing offering. The most important competitive advantage of the new players is their ability to bring technically innovative products and offerings to market in a timely manner.
Leipziger Stadtwerke chose ConnectPoint, as one of its leading technology partners to support its digital transformation through a new digital platform. The realization took into account both the IT infrastructure and the agile approach in joint development and deployment.
An additional challenge was the lack of Stadtwerke’s competence in IT-related areas. Due to the outsourcing of the complete IT to external companies, the necessary IT expertise was missing. The goal of Stadtwerke was to quickly rebuild its competence in this area quickly.
Solution
ConnectPoint has built a unique customized cooperation model with Stadtwerke, based on:
- Creation of central Digital Platform with scalable infrastructure that allows the implementation of proprietary software and software from external producers.
- Delivery of custom software projects.
- Support in building digital organization and education (working in joint teams).
- Implementation of innovation.
Benefits
ConenctPonit helped Stadtwerke Leipzig become a digital organization within a short time. Today, Stadtwerke Leipzig can boast of being one of the most modern companies of this type in Germany.

Real-Time Production Monitoring
Twinings tea is available in 115 countries and is produced in two factories located in the UK and Poland. The polish plant makes up to 70 tonnes of tea every day. It produces 600 different kinds of Twinings tea.
Twinings wanted to digitalize its production, with a particular focus on two objectives:
- Optimization of machine conditions thanks to real-time monitoring. They wanted to create a central platform for monitoring and analyzing production data, that would link IT and OT systems. Thanks to it, both the factory employees and the management received information on how to handle the production better.
- Integration of production process (machines) with business systems. Twinings wanted to start to analyze correlations between orders (data, e.g. from the SAP system) and operational data to optimize production.
Solution:
ConnectPoint developed a Central Data Repository for Twinings, based on the OSIsoft PI system. Data from distributed sources, such as production lines, SharePoint, external Excel, SAP, building management systems were integrated into one place. Such a solution enabled advanced analyses, real-time production monitoring, and calculation of efficiency indicators in various aspects.
Benefits:
In a brief period (less than four months), Twinings received a system that ensures real-time monitoring of the entire production process, and in particular:
» quick calculation of machine performance in different contexts,
» reporting in real-time to management meetings,
» control of short production cycles with regard to the efficiency of machine use and production losses,
» details of the correlation between actual production and business activities.

Production Monitoring and Reporting System
PGE GiEK (Mining and Conventional Power Generation) Company is one of the companies forming the PGE Capital Group - the largest company in Poland’s power sector. The company’s core business is coal mining and electricity generation. PGE GiEK is composed of 7 Branches located in 5 provinces.
PGE GiEK is the leader in coal mining - its share in the domestic market is approx. 87%. It is also the largest electricity producer in Poland, satisfying in certain months more than 36% of the domestic demand.
PGE GiEK wanted to improve the efficiency of the coal mining process, electricity generation and service provision while maintaining high environmental standards and principles of social responsibility.
The company’s main objective was to implement an integrated system for monitoring and analyzing production in real-time from all branches located in different regions of Poland and the head office. Moreover, it wanted to implement a fully automated reporting process for the management, the market, and mandatory reporting to the authorities.
System for Monitoring Production (SMP) was designed, realized and implemented by ConnectPoint within the consortium. The delivered solution was based on two main tools; PI System by OSIsoft and SmartRDM, ConnectPoint's own solution.
The obtained analyses and reports have significantly improved PGE’s operational efficiency and accelerated decision-making processes. The company has gained a secure and scalable system, which is a consolidated source of data used for cross-sectional analyses for the whole company and automatic reporting of production status. As a result, it has become possible to manage the entire company more effectively by tracking events, collecting information and, consequently, better production planning and preventing failures.

Monitoring of the Warsaw District Heating Network
Warsaw District Heating System is the biggest district heating system managed by Veolia and at the same time the second biggest centralized system in Europe.
The main objective of Veolia was to centralize and increase the efficiency of management of the Warsaw District Heating System, including increasing efficiency and quality of services.
The means to achieve this goal was to implement a solution for collecting, analyzing, and displaying data from all existing systems. It is the centralized, real-time information on each network element that allows efficient management of the entire district heating system.
ConnectPoint has delivered and implemented the following solutions, which it maintains and continues to develop:
1. Central Measurement Data Repository (CMDR), based on OSIsoft PI, which collects all measurement data from elements of the Warsaw Heat Distribution Network in real-time.
2. The Main System DOD (Dispatcher Operation Dashboard) - presents real-time data from the Central Repository of Measurement Data (CMDR) and business systems. The information provided allows for optimal control of the district heating network and efficient response to all events.
3. Smart RDM - A system for managing and distributing reports in an organization. Relevant persons in the company instantly receive the latest versions of specific reports thanks to a subscription system.
Thanks to the system implemented, Veolia has gained an intelligent district heating network, enabling flexible and efficient management, in particular:
- Providing heat in a more environmentally and economically sustainable way, i.e: a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of at least 14,500 tonnes per year,
- Reduction of heat loss in the transmission system and reduction of power consumption by the pumping stations.
- A single decision center and quick access to real-time information from all systems for everyone in the company;
- Digitalization of processes

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there?
I’m the engineering director of an ecological company.
What challenge were you trying to address with ConnectPoint?
We hired them to build a customized app that could help us show real-time data.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They developed a customized app using the Java framework and ensured that real-time data management would be possible even with an influx of data coming in through the system. Those real-time data would then be shown on a geographical information system (GIS), which made it possible for many maps to be linked with each other. They also developed a dispatcher operations dashboard.
What is the team composition?
We worked with a development team composed of 4–5 people.
