The project was to deliver a B2B Auction Marketplace for wholesale electronics. It included business analysis, product design, development for the web, and deployment pipelines. We went to Codemotion with the idea and some prototype screens, and they handled everything from beginning to end.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• First, we got the app running and working perfectly for the last five months. So they completed the project, and we launched our marketplace successfully. The web application has an excellent design and works fast. Everything we talked about during our business analysis and design phase was met in the real application. Also, we requested lots of design/business logic changes, and they were able to help us.

We worked with Nora, our project manager, and she was excellent. She understood the business domain better than everyone and made the right calls. She helped us a lot when facing product decisions. The team used Jira & Slack effectively, and I always understood the project stage, timelines, and deliverables.

Within the active development phase, Codemotion specialists coordinated tasks daily. They organized daily calls, where all the current issues on the project were discussed. During the project, the Codemotion team followed the Agile principles.

As far as I know, Codemotion now has around 200 employees which includes developers, project managers, testers, designers and many more. Although they mainly work with JS, they can offer specialists with even Python or .NET skills. I feel safe that they can always fulfill any of my requests and I really like it.

The whole team is under one roof. Therefore, all issues are resolved very quickly.

No, I am happy with how they are.

I am a product manager in the tech industry. At a previous company, we began to develop web and mobile apps in conjunction with a not-for-profit agency, WildAid. I left the company but still work with WildAid to be the product manager of the web and mobile apps. I was with the project since the beginning.

We hired Codemotion to finish all the critical and high-priority tasks for the open source Android, iOS and Web applications that had begun in 2020.

We tried going with the vendor we had used at the company that started the project, but this project was too small for that vendor. They recommended another company which wasn't a good fit, and eventually I found Codemotion.

I managed the communication among the three developers - there wasn't a ton of overlap and the functionality was all worked on in parallel.

I was impressed with the ability to get good consultants with the needed skills. We did have to wait a few weeks to get all our needs met, but we did find our developers after that point.

They were great!

We needed to hire a frontend developer that had some background in data science because math and statistics are involved in the project we are working on. 

We are a small startup company, and most of our funding comes from science-related grants. We’ve hired other companies in the past from the US that were too expensive, and we needed a cheaper alternative. We wanted to find the best person for the job, and we originally hired someone else, but we weren’t happy with the quality of work they were producing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our goal is for the people that we hire to be independent so that we don’t have to go back and fix mistakes. Our developer from Codemotion is very independent, and we can hand over a list of tasks, and know he will be able to complete them. 

The developer has a Ph.D. and is very meticulous in all of the work. He’s been fixing the mistakes that were made by our previous developer and completely refactored and improved the stability of our system. We were having issues with pages breaking, and he is going in and fixing all of that. 

How did Codemotion perform from a project management standpoint?

The developer works just like a member of our team. He is responsive and always meets deadlines. 

We use Slack to communicate, and videoconference every two weeks. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Codemotion has provided us with exactly the person that we need. They originally gave us a few candidates to pick from, and he had the experience that we were looking for. The Ph.D. is so valuable to us, and the individual that they are providing us with is excellent. 

Codemotion is very professional. They check in with us every month, but they are very respectful of our space which we appreciate. We have hired other people that didn’t provide high-quality service like they do, so we’ve been very impressed so far. 

We know that anyone from Codemotion will have a certain level of competence. When we work with them we know that we don’t have to waste time trying to weed through people who cannot complete a job.

The developer that we work with from Codemotion is incredibly hard-working, and will do whatever needs to be done to meet a deadline.

We were seeking to add a full-time, permanent member of our team proficient with NodeJS and Typescript. Our colleague spends his days knee deep in Node, working to expand our APIs using TypeScript/JS as well as working on our core platform. Other technologies used include nest.js, a graph database and noSQL back-end, REST APIs and graphql.

Just 1, our account manager. She was awesome, quickly understanding our requirements and only socializing a handful of resumes that met our requirements. She made it easy for us to find our ace.

We could not be more thrilled with the colleague we hired via CodeMotion. His work product, work ethic, and collegiality have made him an invaluable member of our core engineering team. Our team is extremely discerning; their praise must truly be earned, and this colleague earned it with distinction.

2 week sprint cycles, daily virtual standup, Slack-based comms as needed, JIRA for specs and backlog management, and weekly 1:1s. We generally operate asynchronously outside of structured recurring meetings.

I’m the CTO for a company that creates enterprise-level websites and apps for higher education institutions in the US.

What challenge were you trying to address with Codemotion?

We needed to meet a quick turnaround time for developing first a mobile app and then a web app. Given that, we needed professional UI/UX designs and clean animation, but we didn’t have the in-house talent for such tasks. We also didn’t have the time to hire someone for them. As a result, we engaged Codemotion to help us.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve designed the apps, and Codemotion has worked on the frontend. We’ve used React Native for the development of the mobile app and React for the development of the web app. The Codemotion team also uses a combination of JavaScript and TypeScript for the entire project.

We’ve been working with two developers and a business liaisons officer, who is helping us navigate the engagement. 

Originally, we acquired one full-time developer from the Codemotion team. After a while, we realized that the project wasn’t a one-person job, so we acquired another developer.

I found Codemotion on UpWork, and a couple of things about them spoke to me: their professionalism and their portfolio. On top of that, they had the ability to listen to our needs; they said that if their work wasn’t up to our expectations, we could contact them and their CTO would review their work. If resources were misused or their outputs weren’t production-ready, they’d help us get back on track. Overall, their business practice was professional, and everything was upfront and well-mapped-out. As a result, we hired them.

We’ve invested between $45,000–$50,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in June 2021, and the engagement is ongoing. The second developer came on board in mid-July 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

One success metric we’ve had is the fact that we’ve been able to hire a second developer from Codemotion. Moreover, our timelines have been unrealistic since this project has been extensive. However, Codemotion has managed to deliver the project within such a timeline. Their ability to build the MVP in a span of months is outstanding, considering that their resources are working with us as a new members. On top of that, the time between finding the right developer for the job and bringing them on the project has been well-managed. 

Further, the Codemotion team is user-focused. They can implement great designs to the tee and come up with their own great ideas. Their standout idea is the usage of skeleton loading, which is used by Twitter and other professional web apps. For context, skeleton loading is when websites and apps load cards first before the actual card information shows up.

How did Codemotion perform from a project management standpoint?

The resources have both been fantastic. We’ve had excellent communications, and they have accountability. Moreover, we work with them as partners; we share the workload, so we don’t simply give them tasks. In fact, they can call us and assign tasks to us, too. 

Overall, they’ve been nothing but efficient and fantastic. They communicate deadlines well, and they tell us what they can and cannot do. When problems arise, they alert me ahead of time. To communicate, we use Slack. I have a call with them every weekday morning. We also use Zoom for video communication and Jira for tickets during the agile development process. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Codemotion’s technical experience is better than anyone I’ve worked with before. More importantly, they run their business incredibly well — they have fantastic internal processes. They meet our needs as a client, and we can easily ask them for more resources if we need to do more work. The team also helps us come up with a better partnership structure when we don’t have the right budget for the work. Overall, I see them as a great long-term partner; I’d recommend them highly to others. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

There could have been a playbook for the onboarding process. Since we’d never hired an outsourced developer before, it would’ve been nice to have a little heads up in terms of setting up expectations and communication with resources. 

However, this is a minor point. Doing such preparation is incumbent upon me as the one hiring and onboarding new developers. In any case, their work has been stellar.

Constant communication with Codemotion’s people is as important as constant communication with their developers. Use them to come up with ideas on how to move resources around. Overall, develop a relationship with the company as a whole and not just with their developers.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They established the team and arranged the scope of the project in the first week, and they started development after that. Codemotion built a platform that could handle our online bookings and internal processes. On top of that, they developed advanced features we could use in the future.

Codemotion also helped us with security. We had a denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on the site after we launched it, and the team assigned a person that helped us investigate and avoid a similar attack in the future.

We received Codemotion’s first deliverable in two months. They were a good company, and they helped us secure our site. Whenever we needed anything related to software development, they were capable of handling it.

Our company had grown almost four times since we launched the software they developed. The platform would definitely payout in the next two years or even sooner. 

How did Codemotion perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project manager was one of the best people I worked with. I  learned quite a lot from Codemotion in terms of managing a project. They tailored their approach to the client and didn’t try to squeeze us into a framework. Moreover, they were flexible in adjusting the team as needed.

We appreciated that whenever they took the information from us, they also asked questions. That helped us establish a good communication relationship. They also created our project documentation. Furthermore, they were quite fast in answering any requests we had even if it was on a weekend or holiday. That helped us implement fixes or provide critical improvements to help our patients since we were a healthcare company.

Codemotion had experience in a wide range of industries, and all their team members were very strong. We tried hiring internally, but finding people with qualifications similar to what Codemotion had provided for us was almost impossible.

They could be cheaper, but they provided good value for our money. Codemotion was good, and I’d happy to recommend them to anyone.
