Web Development & UX Design for Fintech Startup
"We were very satisfied with Codaxy’s work."
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of a small fintech startup.
What challenge were you trying to address with Codaxy?
We wanted to create a fintech platform in the wealth management space.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Codaxy developed a fintech solution that’s accessible for people aged 55 and above through its usability and design.
On the backend, we have a core banking application on which we run all the portfolio management and CRM processes. Given our design guidelines, we created a customer cockpit based on an open API architecture together with Codaxy.
We also developed a frontend cockpit for our end clients where they can log in, monitor their investment performance, and do several functionalities on their assets. The mobile version is a browser-based solution that’s agnostic to the device.
As for the UX design, Codaxy received an Adobe XD file from us, which contained around 70% of the defined UX. They, then, did a lot of the interpretation of the effective implementation, because it’s not a pixel-by-pixel design — it’s more of a conceptual one. The team also interpreted the mobile adoption on their side, deriving it from the platform’s desktop version, since we didn’t provide a mobile design guideline. They did a really good job.
What is the team composition?
It was 5–7 people; it changed a lot during the project because there were different people involved at different stages.
How did you come to work with Codaxy?
They had a working relationship with another company for a couple of years, which we also worked with on a strategic project. We had a very good reference from that company.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent roughly $50,000–$100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project started in July 2020 and ended in November of the same year.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We were very satisfied with Codaxy’s work. The entire approach was structured in seven sprints in a project environment where we had daily meetings. The objectives were defined for every sprint, and the entire pricing was objective-based, not time-based.
How did Codaxy perform from a project management standpoint?
The project management was very good; it was proactive and solution-oriented, overall. The direct communication took place via Google Meet by screen-sharing video, while the project communication took place in YouTrack, which they managed from their side.
What did you find most impressive about them?
It was Codaxy’s level of dedication that they put into working or delivering the results, though in some cases, it took them more hours than calculated in advance.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I don’t think there’s anything to mention at this point.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
First of all, it’s good to evaluate if Codaxy’s Java framework suits your needs. They develop their own Java framework and are experts on that side; the team is very efficient in customization and development based on it. They’re also familiar with a lot of financial market concepts, which means they’ll need fewer explanations, and that’s a positive.
Depending on the project, you should be able to manage it with them by having a project manager on your side as well.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m a business architect for Evoq, which is a financial platform for banks and independent asset managers.
What challenge were you trying to address with Codaxy?
We were looking to hire a tech team to develop and design the frontend of our platform.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Codaxy is responsible for developing and designing the frontend of our platform. It’s a solution that provides services such as asset management, trading, and customer relationship management.
To create the frontend, Codaxy is using our UX wireframes as a basis. They’re also building the APIs that connect the backend with the front.
What is the team composition?
The development team consists of 6 people. The lead engineer is my main point of contact and coordinates with the rest of the team. At times, we communicate with the CEO and other engineers, too.
How did you come to work with Codaxy?
A business partner referred Codaxy to us. We did a proof of concept with them that consisted of two sprints and were happy with the results and their capabilities. As a result, we hired them.
How much have you invested with them?
So far, we’ve spent $150,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began working with them in June 2019, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
An external UX team tested the platform and reported that the app was easy to use and understand. We also had internal test users who gave improvement feedback throughout the project. The app is set to go live next week.
How did Codaxy perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re very organized. We manage the project using Jira for up-to-date communication, documentation, and interaction. The discussions are always professional, and they challenge us, which I appreciate.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They have basic knowledge about and skills in the financial industry, which is a rare find for a development team. They’ve used that to develop a product with good functionality. It’s nice that we don’t need to explain everything in detail regarding our business because they’re already familiar with the core concepts.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, nothing comes to mind.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
It’s a good idea to do a proof of concept to determine compatibility first.

Online Portal for Telecommunications Firm

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the program manager at VodafoneZiggo, a telecommunications firm.
What challenge were you trying to address with Codaxy?
We have a massive online portal that consolidates hundreds of features. We needed a new partner who could help us expose these features little by little to our customers as marketable products, as well as deliver on time.
What was the scope of their involvement?
One of Codaxy’s main tasks was to create a portal that can expose plug and play function to the customer and provide all the metrics and changes that we previously provided on our side. It’s a self-service type of portal that takes a lot of the work off of our hands.
For the online portal, they’re using Angular. They’re adding several valuable functionalities, such as the capability for a customer to see the metrics of their network. It allows the customer to make changes that use to require 1-2 weeks’ time for us to achieve. Now they can be done within 5 minutes.
Additionally, they added a lot of dashboards in which you can see what the network is holding, which our customers had no access to before. Now they can see how much traffic there is and a lot more functions.
Most recently, we’ve been using them to build a new sales portal for us. Our solutions are going to continuously grow with multiple products and functionalities. We have at least another year with them on this project, and we look forward to working with them.
What is the team composition?
We have a project manager, a scrum master, developers, testers, and QA specialists.
How did you come to work with Codaxy?
During a holiday trip, my network architect heard about the successes that Codaxy had with other customers from the owner, himself. We invited their team to our office and ran a small demo with them and looked at their portfolio. After a successful talk, we took a leap of faith and invited Codaxy onto our team. We decided to onboard them and have been working with successfully them ever since.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve invested €500,000 (approximately $550,000 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in November 2018 and our work is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They managed to achieve in three months what others couldn’t achieve in a year. With all the orders that come now, we are able to provide service to the customers within 24 hours. Overall, we’re very pleased with the partnership thus far.
How did Codaxy perform from a project management standpoint?
I’m satisfied with their project management style. They can identify the deliverables clearly and they understand our requirements. They even have issue-trackers to get ahead of any problems before they arise.
We have weekly meetings to go over the progress of each of the individual sprints. We use Jira for communication and we meet face to face every other month to review what the pipeline is looking like. It’s a very successful system.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’ve been able to fulfill the scope of what we assign to them. Their energy and attitude are both very dedicated to our projects. They familiarized themselves in network profits in order to accurately create our portals. They consistently meet the required timelines, which keeps us on track.
Are there any areas they could improve?
There’s nothing I’d have them improve. The only limitation they have is their size; if they had more people, I could give them more work.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
My advice is to keep in close contact with them, which is always the case with any offshore company.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of the startup Rise Wallet. We specialize in building user experiences for Bitcoin. I’m the product manager of our first product, Rise Wallet, a Bitcoin wallet app available on iOS and Android.
What challenge were you trying to address with Codaxy?
We engaged Codaxy to develop Rise Wallet. We wanted to enable users to buy small amounts of Bitcoin without having to sign up for an exchange. Our idea was that they would buy a gift card at a retail store, scan the codes with our app, and get Bitcoin deposited into their Rise Wallet. To make this work, we needed real-time integration with cryptocurrency exchanges on the backend.
What was the scope of their involvement?
My team provided Codaxy with a list of features, screen designs, and UI flow. We had several meetings to discuss implementing these specifications. Codaxy developed the server side using .NET and SQL; for the client side, they used JavaScript, HTML, and native iOS and Android tools.
The team has integrated the system with various third-party cryptocurrency exchanges. For instance, when a user scans a gift card using our app, we execute the trade on behalf of the user, sending Bitcoin from our hot wallet. Our work together is ongoing.
What is the team composition?
We have worked with five developers from their team.
How did you come to work with Codaxy?
A friend introduced me to the Codaxy team. When they successfully delivered a few smaller projects, my company hired them to implement the entire product.
How much have you invested in them?
We have spent around $80,000 CDN (approximately $59,952 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
Our partnership commenced in September 2018, and the work is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Although we don’t have specific metrics yet, Codaxy delivered a high-quality product in a short amount of time. This is our core product, and my team believes it will have a fundamental impact on our company.
How did Codaxy perform from a project management standpoint?
Once we determined the requirements and technologies, Codaxy’s team worked independently. We had weekly meetings to monitor progress and review the interim builds of the product.
To execute such a complex project that is entirely remote—my team is in Canada and Codaxy is in Bosnia—we rely on effective communication. Codaxy has been very engaged and responsive; they quickly relay specifications and answer questions.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Codaxy took ownership of their work and treated the product as if it were their own. My team was impressed by their high standard of care and attention to detail.
I have worked with many developers, and I would characterize the Codaxy team as truly top-tier in terms of the quality and efficiency of their work.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, I can’t think of anything.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Have unambiguous specifications and communicate your requirements. If you do this, you will get the right results with Codaxy.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the technical director at Wireless Innovation, which deals in satellite-based push-to-talk and vehicle tracking technologies.
What challenge were you trying to address with Codaxy?
We wanted an online application beyond our webpage, but discovered that we lacked the resources to develop one. The app needed to be low maintenance as well.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The Turbo Track project replaced every layer of software in an existing app. Rather than updating legacy technologies, Codaxy eliminated inefficiencies by rebuilding it from scratch with more advanced coding.
They also worked on vehicle automation by simplifying backend coding for the client and server sides. These improvements aimed to reduce repetitive development work.
What is the team composition?
We had two successive managers in addition to three developers.
How did you come to work with Codaxy?
We chose them because they were already pioneering technology that addressed our specific challenge.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent around $100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Work on Turbo Track started in January 2016 and ended in December 2017. However, we had worked with Codaxy prior to this project.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They got the applications to market quickly and in a cost effective manner. Turbo Track has grown about 30% since its release four months ago. Given that it took three years to create the first iteration, that result is considerable.
How did Codaxy perform from a project management standpoint?
They were always available and had great communications skills. To be honest, they pushed us to be more organized. The team trained us into their process, which increased productivity on both ends.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The team coded a very elegant solution. As a programmer, I was in awe. They made it look easy.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The developers are their own worst critics, but they could also be harder on the client. Their training improved our partnership. However, they also let us operate and request services in ways that weren’t optimally efficient.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
Dataminds is a business intelligence company. Our main business is doing business intelligence projects for bigger companies. We also do some application development. I’m a partner.
What challenge were you trying to address with codaxy ?
We maintain applications that we’ve developed together with codaxy for our customers. For this project, we needed specialists to finish our application because we were only 3 people at that time. We were looking for someone that could take over the course code that we already had developed.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They built our application where you can fill in some data and we can analyze the space on that.
When we started with them, we had a loose application we were working with. It was a web-based platform for business intelligence and big data analytics. It was in PHP and JS with an SQL server and .NET.
What is the team composition?
In the beginning it was me and Marko [CEO, codaxy]. I was the project manager and he was the developer. Over time, we also had Igor [CTO, codaxy] and 2 others working with us.
How did you come to work with codaxy?
I had interviews with several developers I found on oDesk. One of them was Marko from codaxy. We did some interviews based on some questions we sent out. We had a first round and then a second round where we did some interviews through Skype. We had the best feeling with Marko and felt that he was capable for our situation.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in January 2011 until December 2016.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’re happy with the product, as are our clients. It’s fast. They’ve said we’ve delivered a very high level of project management and quality in the application.
How did codaxy perform from a project management standpoint?
When working on all the projects, we had meetings every 1–2 days and sometimes multiple times a day. We used Jira.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The reason we’ve worked so long with them and have been so happy with them is they understand the needs of our business. They’re very Agile in the way they work. They were always more than happy to try to understand about the use of the application and not just do whatever we tell them to do. The quality is very high. When I tell them something, if they don’t agree, they challenge me. That’s been very good.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm CEO of Banja Luka Stock Exchange. We are the first stock exchange in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
What challenge were you trying to address with Codaxy?
The current stock exchange is more centered on IT firms than it was 100 years ago. There's a lot of things to be automated and make more efficient in our business. We wanted to create a broker office, which is a software package for our members. We reached out to Codaxy for help and they are very professional and time-efficient.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We wanted to create the whole package for brokerage houses. That includes frontend applications to issue the trading orders in the system to communicate in real-time with our trading engines. We also wanted to have a middle office and a back office which incorporates the reports and the accounting. It's a web-based application which uses their own framework, XJS (now CxJS). It's very efficient. It doesn't require brokers to have their own servers as it's web-based.
They also give us support with our web pages, content management systems, etc. It's not only the broker office software; it’s about the multilateral debt offsetting platform. Now, we're also building a huge application for accounting and portfolio management for investment funds.
What is the team dynamic?
In the beginning, they had a smaller team, but it grew significantly since we've started working with them. Now, we have 10–15 developers and web designers. Marko and Igor [Co-Founder/Co-Owner, Codaxy] who founded Codaxy are the senior developers that started their own business, and they managed to recruit much younger developers who must be very skilled to work with them. They have really broad knowledge not only about the problem but also in general; they are very well educated.
How did you come to work with Codaxy?
Banja Luka is not a huge city and we are always looking for the best developers in our town. We found out about Codaxy through the IT faculty. They won a bronze medal in programming back in Beijing 15 years ago. We received several recommendations so start working with them.
How much have you invested with them?
We've spent not more than 30,000 euros a year [$36,300].
What is the status of this engagement?
We've been working with them in January 2010. In one year, we signed contracts with the first brokerage houses here. Now, all brokerage houses have signed license agreements with Banja Luka Stock Exchange.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The application is web-based, supports several browsers, and is very light. You don't need to have a good PC to use it; it’s an excellent application. The project was definitely a success. The old system didn't include everything, but with this project, we managed to boot it all in one place with server-sharing and that saves our clients a lot of money.
We have interest from Israel and other regional players about the multilateral debt system: we’ve already had 12 national multilateral debt composition, offsetting debts and claims, and now it's a very successful project as well. For instance, we have more than 1,200 companies in real-time connected to our system entering their debts, and now it's used to composite debts against receivables. We managed to composite more than half a billion in a small entity like the Republic of Srpska. It's a huge success here for the Republic of Srpska, and the illiquidity has significantly decreased here.
How did Codaxy perform from a project management standpoint?
We generally organize phone calls or meetings. We are based in the same town so it’s much easier to have meetings than to arrange Skype or telephone calls. We see each other regularly, on a weekly basis.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They are not just developers; they can help solve problems in a better and more efficient way than we may have thought of. Not only did they understand the coding, they’re very smart people and were able to understand the stock exchange trading business.
They are also very time-efficient and very punctual about what was agreed upon.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Stay here in Banja Loka; it's not necessary to go abroad.

UI and Template Redesign for Financial Software Firm
"What sets Codaxy apart is their combination of coding and design skills."
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m one of the founders of Fimax, a Swiss company that develops web-based software for independent asset managers and financial advisors. Our software allows clients to manage their portfolios by monitoring regulatory requirements like suitability forms, managing documentation, and issuing invoices and reports.
What challenge were you trying to address with Codaxy?
Four years ago, we were using a CSS team and a JavaScript framework called Sencha. Codaxy developed a commercial theme for the framework. Last year, we approached them again to refresh the theme.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Codaxy built the client template from scratch using their own web-based framework, and they are now redeveloping the whole user interface. We expect the first release to be ready in six months.
We initially tasked Codaxy with developing a new version of a Sencha-based framework. Since they knew the Sencha technology very well, they were perfect. Using a Flat UI design approach, they completely redesigned and modernized the user interface while keeping the same patterns, forms, and functionalities.
During these projects, they proposed that we look at their new framework called CxJS. We were blown away by the technology. Sencha is about 15 years old, but CxJS is built on Node.js and bower.json, and all its new libraries are based on React. It’s a totally different way of writing a JavaScript user interface, allowing you to build a system around test cases and develop interfaces on a much easier, sleeker code base. Using CxJS for our new user interface was a no-brainer. That interface is not only a new CSS layout, but also a total redesign of its JavaScript user interface logic.
What is the team composition?
Roughly five developers are working on our project. Two are fully dedicated to it and three are available on request. Now we also have a project manager who takes care of coordination. We pay an hourly fee for each developer.
How did you come to work with Codaxy?
They developed a commercial team for the Sencha framework, which is where we found them through an Internet search four years ago.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested 24,000 euro [$29,394] in the redesign, the development of the template application, and the first iteration of the new user interface. We expect to spend an additional 50,000-60,000 euro [$61,239 - $73,487] on further development.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in September 2017 and the work is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Transforming designs into a Sencha theme takes a lot of CSS experience and technical “know how.” It’s not easy, but their graphic design and programming skills were excellent.
While the new theme has not been rolled out yet, the Sencha template that they designed four years ago was highly successful and appreciated by our clients. Its advantages are clear when compared to the standard template that you get from Sencha. You can easily see the different elements of the application, such as buttons, because they are colored in a different way. They put a lot of effort into building a user-friendly template. Rather than just preparing a design that looked nice, they invested in usability.
How did Codaxy perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re precise and experienced, they deliver on time, and they communicated more than I expected. We have a weekly call with the project manager and exchange a lot of information through email. When responding to us, they try to summarize what we’ve specified in their own words to ensure that they understand what we want.
At the very beginning, the client template didn’t look as I expected it to because we hadn’t communicated clearly. After going through a few iterations, they always improved on my feedback. Now the client template looks even better than what I had expected.
What did you find most impressive about them?
What sets Codaxy apart is their combination of coding and design skills. Sometimes you buy a nice template, but don’t have anyone to implement it. Since we can purchase everything from the same company, the results are so much more interesting. They use the graphics that they developed. It’s like a complete package.
They have the knowledge and they deliver. Their chief executive officer has outstanding business sense. As a main contributor to their CxJS JavaScript framework, he knows the technology perfectly and understands your requests.
Codaxy is brilliant because they offer comprehensive project management, design, and development support. We know how development works, and we appreciate the knowledge they put into the project. We trust them.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They have many developers, but only one main designer. They should try to hire a few more designers to have additional talent, alternative views on the same topics, and a variety of realizations. If they keep using only one designer, they risk all the applications looking the same. He’s brilliant, but he has his own style.
Codaxy's work was systematic and objective-based, satisfying their partner. They had a proactive and solution-oriented communication method. The team is dedicated to delivering the results, which was found to be impressive by the client.
