Improving site health and keyword rankings for a leading IT MSP
Clash Copy did a project for designDATA, a leading IT MSP dedicated to providing IT support and solutions to the DC Metro area, to improve their website SEO.
Clash Copy's SEO specialist performed ongoing technical audits, issue repairs, and optimized all content and meta-data for www.designdata.com. We also created and executed ongoing backlinking and citation strategies. Finally, implementing a regular blogging cadence with search engine optimized content.
As a result of this project, we successfully:
- reduced the number of technical errors on the website to improve the overall health score. Starting score was 21, the current score is 84 and counting!
- improved the off-site metrics like backlinks and citations (while also getting designDATA's thought leaders featured in online publications for a few minutes of fame!). 1000+ new backlinks and 44 new citations.
- Boosted keyword rankings for relevant terms. 137 new keywords!

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the managing partner and co-owner at Shift, an IT company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Clash Creative?
We wanted to enhance our client interaction by conveying our company's message.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Clash Creative has been helping us with copywriting for email and content marketing to send out to our clients. We started by reaching out to Clare (CEO) to tell her what we were looking for, and the next step was to bring the right resources in to do a brain dump and understand what we were trying to accomplish. After that, they built a scope document to ensure they were making exactly what I was looking for.
In addition, they’ve also provided other services like copywriting and blog posting, where they took my words and tweaked them so I could post them on LinkedIn.
Regarding tools, we started using MailChimp, but we moved into a custom solution.
We currently have constant check-ins to make sure everything is running smoothly.
What is the team composition?
I’ve worked with Clare and a couple of copywriters.
How did you come to work with Clash Creative?
I knew Clare from a project we worked on together in the past. I knew she had started her organization, so I decided to reconnect and do business with her.
How much have you invested in them?
We’ve spent $5,000–$10,000 CAD (approximately $4,000–8,000$ USD) with them so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in January 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The feedback from our staff and customers has been great; they say they like the content that Clash Creative puts out.
How did Clash Creative perform from a project management standpoint?
Project management is great; we have weekly check-ins to ensure everything looks good and set milestones and breakdowns of what they want to accomplish. Regarding tools, we’ve used Microsoft Teams and video calls.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their willingness to understand and work with me and my tight schedule is outstanding; I’m a busy person, and sometimes I don’t have the best time management. Despite that, they’ve been able to extract from me what we need to accomplish this project.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I don’t think they can improve on anything — they’ve been wonderful partners.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Clear communication and understanding of the goals and timelines are key to avoiding issues throughout the project.

Please describe your company and your position there.
I'm the Head of Product Management at stack.io. Our team takes care of the Ops-side of DevOps for companies where being online is the core component of their business. Moreover, they have a team of developers actively working on their app and require our ops expertise. We know it's a difficult job for one person, or even a team, to keep up to date and stay on trend.
The purpose of our team of engineers is to discover, learn, and assemble the best technologies and solutions to meet the needs of technology focused companies.
For what projects/services did your company hire Clash Copy Corp?
We were looking for a hire (or in this case - a team) to fulfill our vacant marketing position in order to take ownership of our branding, strategy, social media, blogs, website etc. We wanted to engage Clash Copy in a trial run with a series of lead generation pieces and collaborative exercises.
How did you select this vendor?
As when searching for most hires, we listed a job posting. Clare from Clash Copy applied and reached out, proposing that we use her marketing team that specializes in the tech space. As our own clients see with us, we also recognize the value of a team that comprises experts in many different facets. We were intrigued to trial receiving high-standard project work for the equivalent of a full-time hire.
Describe the scope of their work in detail.
To start, Clash Copy engaged in a number of discovery discussions with our team to learn more about us, our audience, our brand, voice, and strategy to help build a full picture of our business and marketing goals. With the project being a trial run (with a view to continue working with their team) it was prudent to focus on big-ticket items - lead generations pieces - to see what content could be produced to get more business through our door.
The aim was to produce a couple of blogs, infographics, and whitepapers that aligned with hot DevOps topics at that current time.
What was the team composition?
We engaged with the founder to get things up and running, and our team onboarded. We engaged with multiple members of the Clash Copy team, from copywriters, designers, project management and marketing strategist functions who all helped guide us through the various stages of content creation. More recently (post-trial) we've been working with their SEO and business development specialists too.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
From a content standpoint, it clearly takes more than just presenting a piece on your site and social media to determine whether or not it was a success. To us, what stood out was the teamwork, professionalism, and attention to detail that Clash Copy provided. All of our thoughts and feedback were taken into consideration, responses were timely, and interactions were genuine.
On top of that, the work provided during that trial more than met our expectations which of course helped seal the deal for us to continue working together beyond it.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We set up a shared Slack channel between our teams for ease of communication and real-time interactions. Brainstorming, drafting and reviews of pieces were done through Google docs (our usual tool). Nothing fell outside of our regular workflow, so it was seamless to be able to start working with Clash Copy.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
The commitment to our success. There is a genuine feeling that they want us to succeed as if it were their own business. There's also not one member of the team that we don't enjoy working with - it appears that everyone knows their strength, their part in the machine and it all shows through the results that are provided.
Is there any area for improvement or anything that could have been done differently?
A suggestion that we made, that has already been incorporated into our workflow, was to be able to visibly see the stage at which a project is at....be that ideation, draft, refinement, design, ready to publish etc. It has helped allow us to manage the many moving parts and ensure that things stay on track.
