A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the co-founder and CTO of Nixhem Technologies, which is a startup based in Singapore. We are a product company building solutions for mobile service areas. We try to bring data to our clients at the right time and place through ERP or CRM. We try to mobilize the data to our framework which is called Neulero. We have been in business for more than a year, and we have a client in Singapore that is using it.
What challenge were you trying to address with ByteAlly?
We needed a partner to help us develop our solution. The product is mobile and we needed to be able to tell the client how simple and quick of a solution it can be. We now are upgrading to the next version and signing up more clients.
What was the scope of their involvement?
ByteAlly helped us come up with the product architecture in our meetings. They then built the product from scratch using Haskell, which is a technology that very few people use. Our product is completely run on the backend API. We connect both iOS and Android and can scale up to any geography, currency, language, etc. in any part of the world. ByteAlly was involved in the backend, database, API, and the code logic of the product.
How did you come to work with ByteAlly?
We were looking at very niche and advanced technologies for the product because we wanted the product to be robust without any failures. My partner did some market research and ByteAlly was recommended. We discussed the project with them and decided to move forward together.
How much have you invested with them?
We have spent $14,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in September 2015, and completed the first implementation. They still support us if we have any issues. I’m now working with ByteAlly to upgrade the product design, and we’ll be rolling that out later this year.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We haven’t had any major breakdowns of the product. It’s an on-premise install but our product is from the cloud. We work on any model for our clients. To be more productive, we have to do the upgrade for them. We’ve talked to many clients and we’ve gotten good reviews.
How did ByteAlly perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project management was very good. There were four team members working on the project: a lead developer and three other people. We worked in different time zones. My designer was in Serbia and did the frontend UI/UX along with me. ByteAlly was in India. We communicated through Skype and phone. We worked on an Agile methodology and discussed every week what we wanted to accomplish.
They created a product that was very close to the original plan. Because of some reviews, we made some adjustments which meant they completed the product about three weeks late. They do have their own product which helps to build mobile applications quickly, and they come up with a lot of innovative products.
What did you find most impressive about them?
ByteAlly was cost effective, and they understood end-to-end what we wanted. We were able to connect with each other from the product side and technology side. Their design work was excellent, it was robust, and they gave a lot of suggestions which we really appreciated. They’re very passionate and dedicated. They weren’t just doing the work to make another app. They guided us and were very cordial. There was a time difference, but I still found time to talk with them. They have a systematic approach to the requirements. They gave me a developed version to test it out and get feedback.
What I appreciated most is the way they built it and the technology they brought in. There haven't been any breakdowns and the product’s stability is a great achievement. The team was very good at Haskell.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They are more focused on the backend and APIs. They could improve on the user experience perspective.
The final product is stable and has received positive feedback from customers. ByteAlly has good project management and was willing to make suggestions that ultimately improved the end product. They were passionate and professional in all development.
