As a result, Jeremy was the first person I thought of when the project came up. Given his approach and nature, I knew he would be the ideal person to introduce to our CEO. After that meeting, we got the approval to hire Bulldog Digital.

A third-party designer built the website, but Bulldog Digital advised us on design and feature changes to reduce bounce rates and increase lead conversions. The bulk of their work focuses on SEO, particularly keywords based on traffic volumes, competitor activity, etc.

Bulldog Digital continues to review all aspects of our website, informing us of tweaks needed to improve our results. They also work on increasing relevant backlinks to our site, which is something I don't have the time or skill to do.

I can view our website stats instantly through the online portal, which is easy to understand and navigate. SEO is a longer-term strategy, but we were seeing impressive results within a matter of weeks. Over a period of two months, we doubled the number of search terms we were ranking for. Previously, most of these rankings were sub 20, but we now have first page results. As a result, we’re talking with Bulldog Digital about PPC campaigns and other projects for our wider group of companies.

We regularly converse by email and phone throughout the week. Jeremy is my main point of contact, which keeps the communication path clear and simple. What was the scope of their involvement?

Digital marketing was a new project for us. We had never done anything before, and we were recently in a position where we wanted to grow our website. To do this, we needed digital marketing and SEO expertise. We wanted to make sure we weren't doing anything incorrectly or damaging to the business.

One of the biggest improvements they've made is with our SEO. Prior to working with Bulldog Media, we were ranking low on Google, around the 100th page. Now, for a lot of our top keywords, we're ranking in the top 3 of the listings on Google. It's an amazing improvement and one that has massively increased our traffic. Every month they're adding more keywords to focus on, and it’s driving traffic to our site.

Additionally, they helped us with meta descriptions and titles, which are big pieces of SEO. They made a few other changes to the display of the header tags, and a few other technical changes so that Google could easily pick up the relevant content. They continue to review that and make any other necessary improvements.

I chose Bulldog Media because of their location. I wanted a local agency so that we could visit them and develop a close relationship. It's important to still have that personal relationship with people. In previous jobs, where I've worked with digital marketing agencies, I found that if they're not very near to you, you're unable to have a real face-to-face or personal contact with them.

That said, we went and met with them. They gave a pitch and already seemed to know a lot about us. They seemed to have done their research and knew what we needed to do. They looked at our competitors and impressed me with their knowledge and their enthusiasm for improving our website.

In all, we spend about $1,000 a month with them. We've recently increased our spend because they're doing well. They were keen to get a bit of extra budget so they could do more time management and work. It's been working well.

They've massively increased our traffic volume from organic search and paid search. We focused quite heavily on Google Shopping where we're a competitive retailer. We sell a big range of products at good prices. We wanted to be in that shopping spot, and they've helped us to do that. They set up the Google Shopping feed, made sure there were no errors, all the products were saved properly, etc. That's been driving sales directly through Shopping.

Although I wouldn't say we have amazingly regular contact, I can see from the results that whatever they're doing is working. I suppose it's best to just leave them to it.

Their enthusiasm. They'll email me sometimes and say they've seen that the conversion rate's gone up or the traffic's increased. They exhibit a passion for what they're doing as well. If they weren’t as interested, it might not be as successful.

One of the things that we struggle with is our knowledge of our industry because it's a specialist hobby. If you're not a fisherman, it's hard to know what the customer is looking for. There might be certain things that they'll suggest which are not quite right for our customer, but that is just a matter of customer knowledge.
