A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the director of a video marketing agency. My role is head of video strategy.
What challenge were you trying to address with Boomerang Social?
We were considering engaging the services of an SEO company when Boomerang reached out to us.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They’re providing SEO work. We were quite uninformed when we began, in terms of the keywords we wanted to target. We told them where we wanted to be, and they held our hand and walked us through the process.
We’re in talks about expanding their services, specifically into digital marketing for our social media channels, but it hasn’t been commissioned yet.
What is the team composition?
Their owner is our main contact.
How did you come to work with Boomerang Social?
They reached out to us and offered help with SEO-level digital marketing. We were thinking about doing this type of work and they presented a good business case. We entertained the idea and progressed the conversation from there.
How much have you invested with them?
£2,000 (approximately $2,600 USD) so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in mid-July 2018.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’re still in the early days, so it’s hard to say if we’ve had any success as these things require 6–12 months to really take effect. Their team has been positive and helpful with regard to advice and understanding what’s achievable, based on where we are today.
I believe they track the progress of the work, and we’re keeping our eyes peeled too since we’re investing money into the campaign. We’re anticipating seeing some results in the future, and we’ll hopefully get them.
How did Boomerang Social perform from a project management standpoint?
We have catch-up phone calls once a month. They’re easy to get a hold of. If our main contact doesn’t pick up the phone straight away, he’ll get back to me.
We’ve had a kick-off, and they’re supposedly doing all the work behind the scenes. The real signs will come from month three onward, and we’ll start to score them based on those outcomes.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The general conversation is good. They’re talking from a position of strength, so they’ve built a level of confidence in me, and this is why we’ve invested with them. Beyond that, the results need to speak for themselves.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They could improve the monthly updates. It would be good to know exactly what they’re doing and what they’re focusing on at the top level: is it the pistons, changing the oil, or looking at other aspects of the engine? That would give us the confidence of knowing we’re being kept in the loop and it would allow us to benchmark them against other agencies. It would also give us peace of mind, knowing that they’re going through the right steps and that, come month three, we won’t have a scary surprise.
It would also confirm that they’ve managed our expectations and done everything according to best practices, and tell us that if we have undesirable results, it’s because of market pressures, rather than them.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
No.
