BNRY is an award-winning creative technology company with offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town and London.
BNRY offers services in four divisions – Strategy, Technology and Software, Content Production and Creative Services. Sometimes a client brief is answered by one of these divisions, sometimes we present an ingenious mix of all four. This interdisciplinary thinking makes BNRY the secret weapon of ambitious companies with seemingly impossible business problems.
We redesign operational systems, create new digital platforms, devise and execute clever campaigns, and build communities online. We are always grounded by commercial, creative, brand and marketing strategy that directly and measurably serves our clients’ business targets.
WHAT MAKES BNRY DIFFERENT
In our experience, digital agencies are generally good at providing strategy and creative campaign concepts. However, they fall short when it comes to complex development requirements that need to integrate with clients’ existing business systems.
An agency will likely answer a brief with a social media or marketing campaign solution that is easy to execute, and familiar.
We call ourselves a creative technology company because BNRY offers planning and implementation services that encompasses strategy, through-the-line and digital creative, enterprise-grade software engineering, and content production.
By integrating these four areas of expertise as much or as little as each project requires, we present clients with new and innovative ways to achieve their business objectives with results that surpass industry norms.
We value transparent, mutually-respectful relationships between us and our clients, outstanding creative and technical work, and considered audacity. Our sense is that Clients share these values.

transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the head of corporate wellness for Discovery Health. We’re a medical insurance company working in the wellness and user vitality industry.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with BNRY Digital?
We wanted to advance the health screening industry by using tech solutions to engage employees and drive efficiencies.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
BNRY was involved in multiple areas regarding the UI/UX of our health screening platform. We take health screenings from various corporate clients, so the solution needed to be flexible and user-friendly. We gave their team a high-level briefing and let them take the lead in terms of creativity. They received daily requirements for competitive intelligence, compliance, and data protection from our marketing team. This detailed what information they could display and how they could display it. As the product evolved, we used their team for three other development iterations.
BNRY integrated a solution to address member engagement and UX while meeting our security and legal requirements for dealing with health data. They made suggestions to improve the product based on other clinical screening products they’ve come across. Ultimately, they used .NET to develop the platform’s frontend and implement technology to capture clinical screening information, organize data, and generate reports to the UI.
What is the team composition?
We had a project manager and spoke with their managing director daily. However, various people from our company were in touch with other members of BNRY.
How did you come to work with BNRY Digital?
We had an exact set of requirements and put out a brief. Quite a few vendors responded to it, but I don’t remember how the initial interaction with BNRY came about.
How much have you invested with them?
The total cost of the work was above $1 million.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our engagement took place August 2013–January 2018.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our product was an industry first and we set the global standard of bringing technology to the health screening world. Companies in the U.S., U.K., China, and Australia contacted us to find out more about the product.
We screened 50,000 employees within the product’s first year on the market. We increased the types of basic screenings being done from 4–10 and eliminated the 45-minute queuing time by using an electronic booking system along with biometrics. Additionally, the average screening time used to take 45 minutes, but we reduced it to 30 minutes. This allows us to see more employees than ever before.
How did BNRY Digital perform from a project management standpoint?
Having project managers on both sides, we worked together to define the scope of requirements and ensure everyone adhered to the timeline and budget. They understood our requirements around health data and were able to present relevant suggestions. Communication was done through face-to-face meetings, telephone, and email. We had daily stand-ups during tight timeframes, but once a project went live, we mostly relied on weekly meetings.
What did you find most impressive about them?
We had a lot of tight timeframes and used a variety of technologies that caused slightly unstable infrastructures. When something went wrong, BNRY’s team responded quickly and often after hours. They worked into the late-evening to make sure we could go live the next morning. I value this level of dedication. We also appreciated their commitment to understanding our company and the solutions we provide.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The product was new for everyone and required an intensive learning process. We worked as partners to feasibly bring our vision to market as soon as possible. They likely have more recommendations for us, than we would have for them. Working in a corporate environment led to some frustration on their side, but they managed it well.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
It’s important not to be too prescriptive from a product point of view. Work together with BNRY to harness the team’s creative thinking to deliver unique solutions.
