The mobile application developed by Blank continues to be utilized by thousands of users on a monthly basis. Despite the growth in content size, the application maintains its performance. Blank has incorporated a 'Report an Issue' feature, which users initially employed to report application discrepancies. However, the frequency of its use has diminished, indicating the application's enhanced stability and functionality.

Timeliness is crucial in our industry, and Blank consistently delivered items right on schedule. Their punctuality never compromised the quality of their work, which was always up to par with our high expectations. One of the aspects I truly appreciate about Blank is their responsiveness to our needs. They never adopted a one-size-fits-all approach. 

Instead, they took the time to understand the unique requirements of our project and made necessary adjustments to ensure a seamless integration with our objectives. Whenever we had a concern or query, they were just a call or email away, always providing clear, concise, and actionable feedback.

One of the standout qualities of this company, which I found particularly impressive, was their team of front-end programmers. Their promptness was another aspect that resonated deeply with our team.

But what's even more remarkable is the caliber of their outputs. Every piece of code was a testament to their dedication and attention to detail, operating seamlessly and with minimal bugs.

We had created our app’s MVP and needed assistance to push it to the next level and develop the beta version.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Blank has designed and developed the beta version of our mobile app. We initially showed Blank our existing MVP and discussed the functionalities we wanted to integrate. 

Our app is compatible with Android and iOS devices and has web functionalities. Blank has designed the app’s UI/UX and organized our backend code. Blank uses Figma to share and iterate the app’s design with us. We’ll do the app’s marketing ourselves, and we already have Blank in our pipeline for future iterations.

I’ve worked mainly with three teammates from Blank, including Nebojsa (CEO) and Josipa (QA & Project Manager). They’re our main contact, although more developers are working on the backend. 

How did you come to work with Blank?

Our CTO is based in Turkey and had worked with Blank before on different projects. He was keen to bring Blank as our development agency for his previous experiences with them.

We’ve invested around $100,000 with Blank.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Blank in December 2022, and our engagement is ongoing. Blank has completed the project’s lion’s share.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’re exceptionally excited about the work Blank has done for us. We had a particular vision for our app, and Blank has understood and delivered what we’ve asked. Blank has also helped us improve our app in ways we couldn’t imagine. 

Initially, we were skeptical about bringing in a new development agency since we had worked with a different agency for the app’s MPV. I’m very pleased we decided to work with Blank because they’ve met my expectations, and the app looks great. 

How did Blank perform from a project management standpoint?

Blank meets deadlines and stays on budget. We have several WhatsApp groups, email, and virtual meetings to communicate. Blank has run iterations of the app using Figma, and it’s been an easy process to follow. 

Moreover, Blank is a small company that cares about their customers, and we like that because we’re a small company too. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m most impressed with Blank’s UI/UX design and development expertise. We really like that Blank understands user psychology and makes decisions based on their design and technical knowledge, which has been invaluable for us. 

Additionally, we’ve worked with different development companies before, and we’re coming out of this relationship far more educated and aware of our app’s development. Blank has helped us regain our confidence, which is extremely important in our industry.

I can’t think of anything for Blank to improve — they’re really good.

Being present and engaged with Blank throughout your project will help you get the most out of your engagement with them. Blank has a very disciplined team and will work with whatever you give them. However, working with them in a collaboratively way has been very beneficial for us.

For what projects/services did your company hire Blank, and what were your goals?

We were searching for a partner who has deep knowledge of NFTs and web3 space and can also help us build our e-commerce platform. Our goal was to launch an e-commerce platform where users can buy our hoodie with an integrated NFC chip and then redeem their NFT by scanning the chip.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We selected Blank because of their deep understanding of the topic. During initial talks they provided a lot of useful information and helped us not to make some most common mistakes during the process of building an NFT collection with a real life utility. The communication was very professional and that was also a deciding factor for us.

We launched an e-commerce website with 50+ products. Main product is our hoodie and buying it also enables user to redeem his hoodie NFT. We also built a small NFT redeem page where the user is taken after scanning the NFC chip integrated in the hoodie. By connecting his/her wallet, user can redeem the NFT and get it in the wallet. Blank helped us design the whole product and build both web products as well as write smart contracts for our NFT collection. We launched the NFT on Polygon network and web apps were created using Node.js and React.js.

We had 3 developers working on our products as well as one PM and one QA assigned to make sure everything runs smoothly.

We succeeded in selling our hoodies which was our main goal and general feedback about products was awesome. User experience was great and users had no troubles buying the hoodie or redeeming the NFT later.

Blank’s project management style is agile and well understandable. We exchanged a lot of emails and messages during the project and both their developers and managers fulfilled everything we required, even if it was a last minute change.

Word of mouth, I personally knew one of the owners and after chatting with him and describing what I needed, I saw a good fit.

We had a kick-off meeting, going through the existing PoC. Afterward, the Blank design team came up with a Figma for the app and they started untangling the PoC and rewriting it in clean React. The project also involved a WASM (WebAssembly) component.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We loved the re-design, which targeted both web app and mobile. The React code Blank delivered was so clean and understandable we were able to iterate on it ourselves for some additional features we came up with after the project's completion.

Weekly catch-ups were enough, we used Gitlab for source management and Slack for chat purposes. They were working together with our engineers from day 1.

They were very quick to turn around a brilliant design, targeting both web and mobile, and were also able to learn about the WASM component and understand the existing code. We could really relax with them and set "autopilot on."

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

None whatsoever, they rose up to the challenge quickly.

We were searching for a partner who understands the needs in the WEB3 space and has an understanding for a modern tech stack as we are using it. Engaging your needs and current technology stacks on web3 level, glade the right triggers for your transition is our strive.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

It was clearly the knowledge the founders could deliver in the first talk. Deep understanding of the topic, already coming up with feedback where the stumbling traps are. Really leverage it on another level, understand what the talk is about. Be used to chaotic requirements as customer transition is not the easiest, but needs to be done on a frequency.

We used different technologies for different stacks. Most of used technology was next.js, react.js and several backends, as by example API based backends, using AWS services for server-side encryption and decryption, aswell as onboarding processes. Preferred CMS systems are common in their use. Serverless setup as standard.

we had continuous 3-5 people working on the projects. From designer, to junior-, to senior Dev.

We had very good customer feedback on the outcomes. By example one module, we had to rework on it, do some testings but it was quickly fixed and reworked till finished. Time expectation was met and cost estimation was very close.

Management style is very agile and well understandable in structure, we had a lot of personal contacts and the managers, aswell the employees seem to have a very good balance. Time expectation was met and cost estimation was very close. Communication was from beginning very good, continuously improved.

Absolutely the tech stack which was very similar to ours. We were impressed with their dedication and knowledge of Web3.

I’m the VP of engineering at Databook, a SaaS company located in California. We offer a custom intelligence platform that provides insights for enterprise sales organizations.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Blank?

As a small company, we needed the support of either having more engineers in-house or contracting someone external. We had to be very careful with customer data because many of our contracts were with big enterprise companies. These companies asked us not to have contractors working on the backend or have access to the data. That was why we decided to have an in-house team working on the backend and brought in an external company to take care of the frontend, where they didn’t need access to the customer data.

Our web application was based on AngularJS version 1.6. It was an old version, and it had a lot of vulnerabilities. The version wasn’t maintained by the community anymore, so we needed to migrate it into React.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We brought Blank in to take care of the project. They started moving features one by one into the new React app. We had to keep those two apps customer-facing and make it seamless for them while we were moving everything from one to the other. 

Blank was reimplementing, improving, and adding new features to the new web app. We only engaged with them for the custom software development because we’d already given them the UI/UX design.

We worked with Blank’s CEO and with two full-time engineers.

One of our engineers recommended Blank to us because of the quality of their code. This person had worked with them in the past.

The project lasted from September 2020–March 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our main metric was the performance of the web app. There wasn’t a quantitative metric because we were only migrating the existing functionality to a new framework that offered the same. It was completed successfully without any detriment.

The second metric we measured was the visual impact on the ease of use. We had the same functionality but with a different design. It was very acceptable to the internal team and customers.

How did Blank perform from a project management standpoint?

The project management was great, and the communication was constant. I was in contact with Blank’s CEO through Zoom on a weekly basis to supervise the project and discuss specifics. In addition, we brought Blank into the 15-minute daily standups with our internal team. 

We also had one of our engineers be the point of contact with them to review the code and help their team out.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Blank was willing to take on anything. The communication was very easy and friendly. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

One thing Blank could improve is to have a bigger overlap between their teams. Having a project manager on their side to take care of everything from the beginning would have been good because of the time difference we had. We gave that feedback, and Blank fixed it right away. They performed amazingly.

Any advice for potential customers?

Do a similar setup as we did and have daily quick catch-ups. It really helps to get quick feedback on how things are going. Let Blank do the work.

They have highly skilled engineers, great communication, and good project management. We would talk daily and got demos frequently.

We didn’t have any requirements for the documentation and they didn’t write it. Maybe writing some documentation can be something they could work on.
