What challenge were you trying to address with Binary Pulse Studios?

We reached out to Binary Pulse to create a video about employee culture for events and internal use. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Binary worked with us to develop a creative brief in order to identify the individuals we wanted to film, and then helped us speak to those employees about the process and getting their legal consent to proceed. They then sent a film crew to three different locations, using content from about six different employees of both their work and home life.

What is the team composition? 

We worked with about five people on their crew.

How did you come to work with Binary Pulse Studios?

We'd worked with them in the past on other video projects, so we were confident they'd be a good fit for the more unique video we were trying to create this round. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $55,000, not including travel costs. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked on the most recent project for a couple months some time in 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We've been showing the video at our internal events over the past nine months, and it's been very well received by our leadership and employees alike. They ultimately helped us create a unique video that's been very successful overall, showcasing our culture in a way we've never done before. 

How did Binary Pulse Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

Management of the video was seamless from start to finish. They met deadlines, stayed organized, and approached filming employees with a lot of professionalism. We mostly communicated through email and by phone. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to understand their clients' vision and bring it to life sets them apart. They're also incredibly creative. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No.

Have a thorough discussion about your vision and objectives in the beginning and be open to their creative input for ways to improve project outcomes.

I'm creative director for the internal agency at Thermo Fisher Scientific, a biotech company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Binary Pulse Studios? 

We were growing the agency and needed some help on video production and animation. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement? 

Binary Pulse Studios creates a number of marketing and advertising videos. It’s a mix of animation and live video shot on location. Some even mix animation with video footage. The videos mainly live online or on social media. Some educational or how-to videos are used at trade shows. 

The process usually starts with us brainstorming concepts. Once we get approval from our internal client, we bring in Binary Pulse Studios. We share the script with them and then they create a storyboard. We review it and make changes. After the process of fine-tuning the storyboard, they help us visualize how the project is going to work with a rough cut. 

From there, they either work on the animation or live video shoots. We go through the process to get approval from the client. The process is also affected by the budget. If we do more of the heavy lifting on our side, we can save some money. Other times, they take on the whole project from the script to storyboards and production. 

What is the team composition?

Our main contact is Kara (Digital Project Manager, Binary Pulse Studios). We also work directly with Jeremy (Director and Motion Graphics Supervisor, Binary Pulse Studios) and Drew (Producer and Scriptwriter, Binary Pulse Studios) on the creative side. I don't have full transparency into the rest of the team. They’ll bring in a crew to shoot video or work with an animator, as needed. 

How did you come to work with Binary Pulse Studios? 

I found them through an online search. I looked at examples of their work and then went and met with them in person. It felt like a good fit. One of our other internal business units also worked with them and let me know they were happy with the results. That confirmed they were the right choice. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve probably spent close to $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement? 

Work started in August 2016 and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Binary Pulse Studios helped us create a very successful video for antibodies. Combining both animation and live footage, the video raises awareness of our antibody portfolio as part of a larger campaign. They use different characters that represent areas of the body where antibodies are working. It’s amazing how they brought it to life.

The antibody awareness campaign was quite successful. In the area of antibodies, we were ranked number 16 before the campaign in the biotech industry. We're still leveraging the same campaign and right now we're number two in unaided awareness. 

How did Binary Pulse Studios perform from a project management standpoint? 

Binary Pulse Studios is flexible and receptive to our video concepts. They also bring new ideas to the table to enhance the project. Our teams work well together. In particular, Kara does a good job working with the account person who handles the projects on our side. 

Everything gets fed through the account person and they communicate quite often. Depending on the workflow, they might speak 3–4 times a week. There are occasional challenges with deadlines but overall they're easy to work with. 

What did you find most impressive about them? 

Jeremy brings excellent quality to each shoot. For every project, they handle the direction of the entire video. They communicate well and their storyboards are accurate. What makes Binary Pulse Studios unique is their ability to produce high-quality videos in house. 

Are there any areas they could improve? 

They can do a better job of pricing on the front end. We sometimes have to adjust our budget because they didn’t account for changes or revisions during the process. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers? 

Let Binary Pulse Studios be part of your creative process. Be firm and believe in your idea, but also feel comfortable in getting their feedback.

What challenge were you trying to address with Binary Pulse Studios?

We reached out to Binary Pulse for video production services. We wanted to establish a structure and methodology for incorporating helpful videos on our website that we could also use for other touchpoints like social media and events. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Binary Pulse produces videos for the company, including quick-tip clips that explain standard workflows within software or introduce our products and services to our targeted audience. In one video, our Chief Medical Officer provided guidance for using our software, but Binary Pulse has also sourced talent for voiceovers in other videos. They've also helped create some introductory videos that we use to welcome employees and guests in our office lobby. 

What is the team composition? 

I primarily work with Tim (Producer, Binary Pulse Studios), as well as someone who works on the creative and strategy aspect, and a project manger. 

How did you come to work with Binary Pulse Studios?

Other agencies and friends of mine recommended them, and we liked how experienced they were. We immediately felt comfortable working with them and felt they'd be a great partner. 

How much have you invested with them?

We've invested between $50,000–$100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We've been working together since early 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Binary Pulse delivers high-quality videos that have helped reinforce the value of the company, engaging potential customers and employees alike. Although it's hard to track the success of the videos, it's safe to assume that they've improved engagement on our website. We've also received a lot of positive feedback from visitors in our lobby, who are getting a great first impression of us from the visuals playing on our screens. 

How did Binary Pulse Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

They were great about clarifying the details of our initial contract, tracking any changes in scope, and coming up with a thorough creative strategy for each video we've produced. I also have access to the same resources I've been working with from the start, which has been helpful from a strategic standpoint. They're very customer-service oriented and attentive to our needs. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They're very knowledgeable and tech-savvy. They understand the use cases and the types of customers we're targeting from a B2B standpoint. Their strategic approach has also helped us find creative ways to work around spending constraints that come up when dealing with venture capital or private equity-backed companies. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Set clear expectations from the start. The first project and interaction with a vendor are very important in building trust and showcasing collaboration capabilities.
