App & Software Platform Used by Hospitals
Our client, a software as a service provider for the healthcare industry, envisioned having an app as part of their software offering.
They did not have in-house app developers and sought out a team of mobile app experts who could bring their vision to life. Our specific knowledge and experience developing healthcare software made Big Fish the perfect fit.
The Big Fish team created the entire systems architecture necessary to integrate the new mobile offering into our client’s existing software platform. We also designed and developed two native mobile apps and the necessary API.

Logistics Company App
A logistics company using legacy software to manage the flow of goods wanted a modern mobile app that their drivers could use on the road to view their route and daily deliveries.
Our team designed and developed an app that makes it possible for drivers to pull up real-time details about their deliveries, and communicate with dispatch when needed.
We also designed and developed the needed integrations with our client’s existing software to access the route information needed by the drivers using the app, and allow dispatch to monitor the flow of goods, track the location of all their trucks and provide instant updates to drivers in the field.
The logistics company app that we developed is actively being used by hundreds of drivers around the country every day.

App for Trash and Recycling Collection Company
Tampa-based WASTE AWAY® provides trash and recycling collection services to large multi-family apartment communities. They employ over 100 service reps who handle the work of nightly doorstep trash and recycling pickup at apartment communities across the country.
WASTE AWAY® needed a way to add accountability and transparency to their services.
“Managers of large residential complexes know that providing doorstep trash and recycling pickup is a top-rated amenity for prospective tenants,” explained WASTE AWAY CEO, Ron Walser. “But until now, resident managers had a hard time being sure that the job – which is done at night – was being done as contracted. Plus, when a tenant violated disposal rules, there was no way for management to prove their case.”
WASTE AWAY’s visionary CEO knew that if his service reps had a mobile app they could use it to track their work and send disposal violations to their clients.
Our client initially contracted with another local development company to build the mobile app. But after an unsatisfactory experience, WASTE AWAY’s CEO hired Big Fish to re-develop their software.
The service reps collect the trash and recycling, and can now take photos and notes of violations. The app generates a report that tells the resident manager the name of the rep, when they arrived and when they completed their tasks. It also sends time-stamped violation reports that include photos and descriptions of the violations, so tenants have no basis to dispute them.
Violation reports are sent in real time in PDF format to resident managers, enabling them to deliver the report to the tenant.

Field Team iPad App
A field service company, with employees who travel to job sites in their territory, hires Big Fish to design an iPad app that will enable their teams to complete work orders digitally and communicate in real-time.

Health Insurance Company App
The insurance industry is notoriously laden with legacy software. One company had a vision to modernize insurance industry technology. But they did not have an in-house software development team. That’s when they found Big Fish and reached out to us about developing their mobile application.
Big Fish developed a native iOS app for this health insurance company. The technology received national attention and helped our client achieve their vision of taking the digital transformation to the insurance industry.

Please describe your company and your position there.
I am the CIO of Gulfside Healthcare Services, Inc. We have limited software development capacity and needed a partner to develop our first mobile application - with limited budget.
For what projects/services did your company hire Big Fish, and what were your goals?
We wanted to advance our digital strategy by developing a mobile application that extends our presence and compliments our web portal capabilities. This project had limited budget as it represented our first step into mobile connection with our patients and partners. There will be significant enhancements to come, but we needed a baseline.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We met with 3 vendor solution providers and Big Fish was selected because of the quality of their prototype, their cost / value proposition and their flexibility to meet our technical expectations.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
Develop an entry-level mobile application that leverages the portal capabilities for referral capture and represents a professional image of Gulfside and the care we provide to our patients and their families.
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
Sara was our main point of contact throughout the process. She communicated very effectively and we found Big Fish to be 'easy to do business with'.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
The application was delivered on schedule and on budget - we're very pleased with the results and were able to work through one change request without issue.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
Most of our correspondence was through email, the project was a fixed-bid arrangement and we had one billable change request that was identified during our testing phase.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
They were nimble and efficient with communication. I am pleased with their project correspondence — the tasks were clearly defined, and they delivered on their promise.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
None that I can think of; this was a great experience.
To the client's satisfaction, the app was delivered on schedule and within the given budget. The Big Fish team was very easy to work with — there were no issues with the final product, and they applied the necessary changes seamlessly. They were also nimble and efficient in terms of communication.
