BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

Kino Japan is a nonprofit organization that follows the Kino movement started in Canada around 20 years ago. It consists of encouraging filmmakers to make short films with little resources. We’re one of several groups around the world. We held a big event in 2019. 

I’m the main organizer of the organization I maintain connections between Germany and Japan, and sometimes the rest of the world.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Bettymedia?

As a filmmaker, I can produce, write, edit, and act, but, when it comes to visual design things, I’m really at a loss, and Bettymedia really helped me there.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They designed a logo, which became the leitmotif for our events. We created an animation and participant badges based on that logo. They also created our Facebook page.

Betty (CEO & Creative Director) would come with an idea, and I’d decide whether I liked it or not. There are people who are more visually-inclined in our group, and they’d tell me when something looked nice. 

We shared administrative roles on the Facebook page between Betty and the other members of my team. Although I started posting a lot of pictures, she jumped in, and she’d boost the Facebook page every month by including a new banner design.

What is the team composition?

I was mostly interacting with Betty.

How did you come to work with Bettymedia?

I met Betty at one of the events where people gathered to make short films, and I mentioned that I wanted to create a group in Japan. We’ve been in touch since then.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested less than $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started talking about designs in March 2019, and she delivered pretty quickly. The event took place in October of that year.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Their design was really beautiful, and everybody loved it. Secondly, the design was easy to work with. They provided us with a logo and a banner, and we even made a short film out of those. 

This was my first time working with a designer, so I can’t compare Bettymedia’s work to others. I’ve organized these events in Berlin and Hamburg, and my tasks were always organizational in nature. This was the first time I decided to be on top of it all. 

Everybody loved the design when we got it. When we were making the animation, the two people working on it said that it was perfect. 

How did Bettymedia perform from a project management standpoint?

We stuck to her deadlines. I like organizing things as a producer, and I’m a software developer myself, so that wasn’t an issue. We were going to organize our big event in August, and we shifted to October, but everything was very smooth.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was most impressed with the quality and beauty of their work. Whatever change she made grabbed our attention. The designs were eye-catching.  

Are there any areas they could improve?

I really can’t say. It was our first time working with a designer, and I can’t think of anything to improve.

Trust her. She will deliver.
