Tracking solution for the creative industry
Months ago Big Lazy Panda were grappling with their project management. They had no way of tracking their success or spotting issues early.
Big Lazy Panda (B.L.P.) is a creative boutique that specialises in visual effects.
To keep track of all the projects, tasks and invoices, B.L.P. built a complicated spreadsheet. They also used FileMaker - a software that generates quotes and bids and creates a task list of itemised work with price tag - and TSheets - software to track each employee’s time on each job. These tools didn’t work together, or with the spreadsheet.
Brad was also concerned about the risks that spreadsheets hold. He always felt on edge thinking about the possibility of his master spreadsheet being wiped out, costing him the loss of a lot of historical information and hours to rebuild the system. He needed a bespoke solution. Something that would allow all their tools to work together, featuring all the functionality Brad needed but no extra clunky add-ons. That’s where we came in.
We suggested the PWA, the progressive web app, as the most suitable way to go. We built bespoke project management software for VFX shot tracking and estimates, giving different levels of access to privileged users, artist users, and accountant users.
To solve B.L.P.’s biggest problems, the new software will:
- Eliminate the operational risk,
- Reduce time spent on project management,
- Unify the process of tracking and maintaining the bids and time spent on tasks,
- Monitor invoices,
- Send notifications.
It replaces the multiple pieces of software that used to represent B.L.P.’s project management and brings everything into one place. It bridges the gap between the quote and the project list and simplifies the conversation within the production team, the managers and the accountants. It eliminates redundant and repetitive tasks, saving a lot of time as well as frustration, and it virtually removes the risks of human error, such as entering wrong data or forgetting to send an invoice.

App based community for reaching success and balance
Create your life list, set reminders and improve what matters the most so you can get busy living your very best life.
We were approached by Jeremy Horne with an idea that we loved - an app that would truly help improve people’s lives, making them feel better and get more out of their day.
We worked with Jeremy and co-founder Gareth to help them develop Thriverapp™.
Today, the app is growing to become one of the most trusted and effective wellness and self-development communities globally.
Jeremy Horne had put together a detailed stack containing designs and UX plans. Him and Gareth needed someone who could take those ideas and develop the mobile app for both iOS and Android, as well as provide all backend services. It was important that it would fit within their budget.
They needed to build an app that they refer to as a “community-powered ultimate life list”. Its intention is to take bookmarks and socially-focused functionalities and combine them. Users can save anything from a good book to helpful software, leaving them with a source of all types of their favourite content. That way, they can apply the content to their day-to-day and hopefully lead better lives.
The community aspect allows users to see products and content that others are using. In terms of functionality, it was fairly complex. The challenge was making something that’s complicated appear as simple as possible through the user experience.
When we started working with Thriverapp™, we helped them optimise the user experience and ensure that the front- and backend would work together properly.
Our main focal point was the mobile app development and backend services. We developed native iOS and Android apps in React Native, providing all the functionality expected in the original planning phases.

E-commerce platform for photo printing business
It's an e-commerce platform that would not only allow for ordering of prints but also reflect customer experience and the quality the customers receive when they hold in their hands the prints in which their memories are embedded, while keeping the process easy and convenient.
To simplify order placing as much as possible, we decided to utilise the latest browser capabilities and HTML5 technology and reverse the process of placing the order. Usually, the user chooses the photos they want to print, then uploads them to the server, and then places their order. In our application, the customer chooses the photos and reviews them on their own computer, places the order, and the files are uploaded to the server only when they are confirmed. This made the whole process 80% faster and at the same time reduced the risk of cart abandonment.
In addition, to streamline the process of order fulfillment, the admin panel has been equipped with tools to export the order to a format that perfectly matches the requirements of the Fuji Frontier photo lab. Thanks to this, the lab technician has less work and more certainty that the prints are done in the correct format, on the right paper.
Before the platform was launched, online orders accounted for only 5% of all Lab31's orders. In the first year after the online store was launched, the number of online orders has tripled. The reach has also increased, with customers from all over the country finding their way to Lab31. As a result, they currently competes with the largest players in the industry.

Customisable, embeddable event calendars
The idea behind this project is quite simple. The church leaders support themselves with software to better communicate with their community. The CCB tool has also been created for this purpose and has a huge number of various functionalities. However, there are things that CCB users can not do - e.g. share their calendars.
We decided to integrate with the CCB API and create a tool with which church administrators can easily create their own unique calendar and fit it to their website, as well as share it on social media.
CCB Events is a SaaS platform that integrates and synchronises data, and provides tools to change the style and type of the calendar. All this so that administrators can more effectively provide information about upcoming events to their congregations.

One stop solution for your entire pest control and termite business, all in the palm of your hand
Depending on the requirements, we wear different hats. In the case of our cooperation with SqueezeTech, we became part of the development team to support the development of the pest control and termites platform.
Our task was to consult on and implement the system requirements. The goal was to create a mobile application for Android tablets to support technicians during their daily duties.

Location based social platform
How alienated do you feel when you arrive in a new place you don't know? How to get to know this place? Where to go to feel the local vibes? How to find out where you can do something you need to do? Facebook can help but is limited because of its one drawback - you need to know people who live in or visited a given location. However, in many cases, such as when you move to a new city, you do not have a friends' network there.
During his professional career, Wojtek found himself in a similar situation many times. Every time he moved to a new city, he faced the same problem of no friends and no information about local events and places worth knowing. That's why he designed an interface for a social platform, which will focus primarily on the place and community that is connected with this place, and not on the individuals themselves.
We could say that the task was easier, because the entire UI mockup, as well as the UX, were very well prepared, so implementing the whole project was a pleasure.
Since the launch of the platform, we have been adding new functionalities and improving existing ones. Because the whole project is based on our Continuous Delivery, the introduction of subsequent changes is efficient, and users are not exposed to downtime and interruption in the service.

Bespoke social media platform focused on wellness
Meet Agnieszka, a law graduate, who was not happy with her figure. This seemingly insignificant problem turned out to be so serious for her that she decided to take charge of her life and change it for the better. During the several years Agnieszka spent working on herself, she helped many women, and achieved more than 50 thousand Instagram followers. Instagram, however, is not the best place to look for motivation. Filters and a huge number of photo-shopped pictures give a false image of how real life and real hard work that gets results look like.
Our goal was to create a platform for people who want to change their lives through physical activity and proper diet, where they can share their results and get motivated with photos and content from other users. The content on the platform should be authentic, not subject to any filters, and show the "naked" truth. Simply - not create a false image of reality.
We created a portal that allows users to efficiently view and add photos, grouped into well-defined categories so that all content is placed in the correct places. No mess, because order is the first step to improving your life.
Agnieszka directed traffic from her channels to Fitpic.pl, which brought her over 2,000 registered users in less than a month. These users generate approximately 30,000 image views per day. The most important is that they are engaged users who really work on improving their lives, and fitpic is one of the key elements in their transformation.

The best bulk text and calling solution for churches
We fit very well in many environments. We did this time, too. We managed to find our feet in the mature PastorsLine project, with its loyal customers.
Jason is very business-orientated and effective at identifying weak spots in his product. He is not indifferent to the quality which he delivers to his customers along with the whole plan for further improvements in his platform. He asked us to make an assessment and create the foundations for improving key elements of his software.
We carried out the analysis, prepared the project documentation, and the initial structure for the further development of the platform.

Easy Job Sheets for Outdoor Teams
Assemble has been "Awarded Top 10 Startup in the UK at Microsoft". We had the pleasure to be part of this startup's developers' team and we helped them develop a web application.
We started the implementation with the creation of project documentation, based on which we prepared the application architecture for easy planning, allocation and communication of tasks carried out by the team working in the field. The team we had joined was very flexible, so we had a lot of freedom in choosing the tools for building the application.
After completing the project base, we passed on further development to the Assemble team.

Website for Interior Design
Michiou deals with interior finishing and does it in such a way that you cannot remain indifferent. Their work gives a new life to French homes.
Michiou had a clear vision for their website, which was intended to present their portfolio. Sometimes, however, even simple things like creating a WordPress page are not as trivial as they may seem at the first glance.
For Michiou, we installed WordPress on our hosting server and set up a graphic theme. We make sure that the portfolio is available 24/7.

Please describe your company and your position there.
We offer bulk text and calls to churches and other religious entities.
For what projects/services did your company hire The Beaverhead Ltd?
We hired them to look at our current architecture and make recommendations to modernized our code case.
What were your goals for this project?
We wanted to decrease the number of hours spent on fixing recurring bugs. Improve the speed at which we can deploy new features. Create a mobile app using the best practices by building out a separate API server. Ensure our code is scalable as we grew.
How did you select this vendor?
This company and Piotr, came highly recommended by one of my top developers who was taking up another assignment with another company. I was told that he contributed to the CakePHP framework (the framework we used), which indicated his above average experience and knowledge of what we had and where we could have gone. We did our usual interview process to ensure he was a good fit (questions online, phone interviews, etc.), and he and his company were perfect on all front.
Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.
- Consultation
- Research and documentation of what we had.
- Creating a new architecture for the new app
- Creating the layout for an API server and separating design from code (react js)
- Created a timeline and estimates for each.
- Made suggestions for improvement of the current legacy app as we expected to maintain the current code for several more months.
What was the team composition?
Since it was more consultation and research, it was mainly one person. But we had access to their team, should we decide to move forward with full development. At that time, we had developers who worked for us so The Beaver Head provided the scope and actions our developers needed to take.
Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?
This saved us thousands of dollars in the development of the new web app and we immediately saw improvements in our current app when we added the suggestions they provided.
How was project management arranged and how effective was it?
This is their strength. Very details using spreadsheets and docs. We had weekly calls, and often time, we used screen capturing to communicate any challenges, concepts, or questions.
Piotr is a huge stickler for documentation, project management and using the best practices. We did use my system to manage the flow. We use Trello, slack and google docs.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Everything. His company is built to work with the top clients in the world. He isn't doing this as a side hustle. Piotr and his company is very professional and delivers. The cost is affordable when you consider the value that you get.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Not sure. I think the challenge we ran into was the idea that we needed to follow all the proper steps of development vs a more agile take. That was more due to my budgeting constraints.
We didn't plan to skip steps but to develop a new app and maintain a legacy, you have to consider a slightly different approach vs coming to someone with a new idea. I think we eventually came to an understanding of how we can do both and still get the same results, though it may take a bit longer.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re a startup that’s creating an app. I’m a co-founder of the business and have been working on this process for about two and a half years.
What challenge were you trying to address with The Beaverhead Ltd?
I put together a detailed stack containing designs and UX plans. We needed someone who could take those ideas and develop the mobile app for both iOS and Android, as well as provide all backend services. It was important that it would fit within our budget.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We needed to build an app that we refer to as a community-powered ultimate life list. Its intention is to take bookmarks and socially-focused functionalities and combine them. Users can save anything from a good book to helpful software, leaving them with a source of all types of your favorite content. That way, they can apply the content to their day-to-day and hopefully have better lives.
The community aspect allows others to see products and content that others are using. In terms of functionality, it’s fairly complex. The challenge is making something that’s complicated appear as since as possible through the user experience.
By the time we brought their team onto the project, we had plans for UI/UX in place. They helped to optimize the experience and ensure that the front- and backend would work together properly.
Their main focal point was the mobile app development and backend services, which they completed the entirety of. They developed native iOS and Android apps in React Native, proving us with all the functionality we expected in our original planning phases. The final app is launching this week.
What is the team composition?
I worked primarily with Peter (CEO, The Beaverhead Ltd). There were between 4–5 developers working on the project in the background.
How did you come to work with The Beaverhead Ltd?
I spent the better part of my search looking through web portals and platforms at potential vendors, trying to find a decent app company. While I found some very competent ones, they all seemed to be well out of our budget. Even for an MVP, it didn’t look like they could tackle the project within our cost requirements.
How much have you invested with them?
In total, we probably spent about $55,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project lasted from December 2018–October 2019.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Like I said earlier, we have an app that is launching this week and are really pleased with it. We aren’t sure how many users it’ll pull in yet, but our internal team is ecstatic and confident in its success. They’ve functioned like true partners for us. They’ve made recommendations throughout the process, and we’ve been able to have conversations that have guided the project. Because of that, we ended up with something that’s better than we originally planned.
Our positive results stem from the team’s understanding of our goals. It’s sometimes pretty difficult to explain our app and its benefits, but they comprehended the context of what we’re trying to achieve. They went beyond our expectations because they showed they cared about our UX and app performance.
How did The Beaverhead Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?
We had the CEO acting as our account manager because their team was small enough to do that. In that respect, we were given the gold service. They’re a young, very talented company that was key to this project being successful. We kept track of the project through Excel spreadsheets, bug-logging software, and meetings every 2–3 days. From a governance perspective, it was set up nicely in an agile process.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re a nice team and a very pleasant company to work with. When we collaborate, it feels like we have our own in-house team. We don’t need to worry about the expensive process of building up our own dev staff. That’s why I’m happy to review and endorse them.
Are there any areas they could improve?
If they want to scale up, they’re going to run into some challenges that any small company that’s been taking on new clients will face. We haven’t felt any of those pains, though.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Come up with a model that allows you to scale your project, but not too quickly. Overall, we had a great experience. It feels like we’re working with a team of friends as opposed to a supplier.
