Overall, we were very happy with Bacancy's services. We had a few ups and downs along the road however the team at Bacancy were quick and on hand to sort out any niggles

Sometimes the quality of the resource provided was not good enough. I would suggest they are tested before they are sent out of the door as it was very frustrating for me as we missed a big deadline because of it

I was working primarily directly with the two developers and we had 2-3x a week checkins. The team turned around requirements very quickly. The individual developers had clearly had excellent training on how to manage scope and prioritisation of activities, and the ability to manage a stakeholder who wasn't always exactly clear on what was the priority. They both were good at ensuring clarity.

We needed a company that could provide us with web and mobile app development support.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bacancy has taken over the development of an online marketplace where celebrities, athletes, and influencers can sell experiences to their fans. After we provided the team with an existing initial framework, they conducted a week-long discovery phase and then started their development work. They’ve used Laravel and PHP on the backend and JavaScript and CSS on the frontend.

Bacancy has implemented two-sided marketplace functionalities such as a chat and a video call functionality. Aside from that, Bacancy has also designed and developed a mobile app for us using React Native and Adobe XD. They’re also responsible for the ongoing maintenance, hosting, and development of the solutions.

We’ve worked with six people from Bacancy, including a senior backend developer, a senior frontend developer, a senior QA person, a project manager, and backend developers.

Initial goal was to build a PWA app using React, this was completed on schedule in about 7 months. Then, the goal was to turn the PWA into a Hybrid cross-platform mobile app using Ionic Capacitor. This was completed on schedule, going live in iOS & Android app stores in just under 3 months. 

Lastly, their goal was to learn about the legacy app we are replacing. The legacy app was in ColdFusion and Oracle, but understanding how that worked allowed them to build new APIs, and perform full-stack development of new features.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Achieved multiple milestones in alpha & beta releases, as well as on schedule release of our app in iOS & Android app stores. Now they are regularly delivering new features to meet our monthly release cadence. 

We are making very fast progress by being able to be hand off late breaking development issues in US time, and when we regroup in the morning, they have coded the solution. We also have been able to send the issue to the team, and whoever has most knowledge of that section of code will tackle it.

The PM has an easy job when the team performs so well, but in the times we do interact the PM has been responsive, thoughtful, and helpful.

Great value for the cost! The offshore team has really been essential in getting this project completed, and now is continuing to grow their skills and run with full stack tasking, or anything that needs to be done.

I am very happy with their work to date. Even when there was employee turnover, the replacement was very quick to learn and pickup where the prior engineer left off.

The team of Bacancy developers worked at a fixed weekly rate on features and testing related to our enterprise SaaS platform. Our work is managed using the Agile methodology with weekly sprint cycles. Project requirements were analyzed in Toronto and assigned through Jira to dedicated developers on our Bacancy team.

Developers were required to complete assigned Jira tickets in a timely manner and with a high degree of quality, while the QA resources were responsible for both manual and automated testing of the application. Bacancy supported their team with project management, infrastructure, dev-ops, and other senior technical resources at no additional cost to our company as part of their commitment to the success of our relationship.

The Bacancy team operated as an extension of our local team based in Toronto. We were in regular communication with a dedicated project manager from Bacancy and also with the CTO of Bacancy and this close relationship ensured that the relationship could adjust very quickly as our business needs changed.

2. They agree to have their developers working hours overlapping with EST time to facilitate meetings with our team and smooth collaboration with our client team.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We initially hired them for our Zunaso Work Order development project - We started with 2 developers and extended to have 1 more developer. After they completed the work for the phase 1 release of the product, we extended their contract to continue with the development of phase 2 and future releases. Also, we extended the contract for another project (ServicePRO maintenance development) with one full-stack developer.

Whenever there are performance issues with any particular developer, Bacancy acts on the same right away either by addressing the performance improvement with the specific developer or by providing an alternate resource by arranging interviews in a shorter period of time.

The Bacancy Project manager ensures that the work gets done and delivered as per the timelines and milestones planned. The communication happens through messaging within our ServicePRO software, emails, and Teams Meetings.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Our team has direct access to all the developers, making it very easy to collaborate and work.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

There were a few initial hiccups here and there, but we have weekly meetings with the Bacany project manager to review the previous sprint activities and the upcoming sprint tasks, which helps with the continuous monitoring and adjustments as needed along the way. Also, the bi-weekly CSM check-in helps to address any resource-related concerns.

When any developer leaves bacancy, the quality of work gets impacted heavily until the new developer gets completely trained to work and deliver on the tasks. We have addressed this by advising Bacancy to keep backup resources on the project all the time (one front end and one back end).

I found Bacany in a Google search. I choose them because they offered a developer for hire, not just project cost. They also offered a backup developer if my assigned developer became unavailable.

We provided the UX designs in Adobe XD and the requirements in Jira. We put together sprints and we have a video call every week. If the developers need something mid-week, they will reach out via comments in Jira or via Slack. We provide the APIs and they have built the software in React. The goal is to have it be desktop and tablet friendly.

I'll keep it simple. It works and does what we want it to do. We have through some complex things at them, and they have made it work. Rarely, if ever, do they say that can't be done, they just make it happen. I am impressed with their ability to handle complex requests.

They work on tasks as needed, and when they run out of things to do on a sprint, due to hold-ups, they start working ahead. They reach out to us via comments in Jira or in Slack.

they are typically quick to respond to each task we assign. we have been able to get through a large amount of our task backlog and management is happy with the overall progress of the dev work.

we use Trello to manage tasks. Slack is used for communication along with email when necessary. sometimes we have morning meetings with the team when a face to face discussion is required, but typically it is not necessary.

mainly their ability to bring in other resources when required for a specific tech need. also, Their flexibility to work more or fewer hours based on our work demands is impressive in the partnership.

quality is always an area of improvement with all software developers. they are typically quick to fix any bugs we report so nothing really they could do better - as they have gotten more familiar with our system, the quality has gotten quite high, so we are happy.
