DevOps Architectures are getting more complex, owing to the variety of services introduced by cloud providers, and a multitude of tools available to work on the DevOps pipeline. In any particular application environment, there may be many moving parts such as App Servers, Database Servers, Load Balancers, Health Checks monitors, Continuous Integration and Delivery tools. And to be able to manage multiple server

environments for different teams and audiences, configuration and environment management can be quite complex.

Stakater supports design, deployment and management of a secure infrastructure with optimized cost and performance

Safello needed additional resources to enhance the product back in 2014. There were budget restrictions as a startup, however it was not easy to find a remote team with expertise in the niche Cryptocurrency domain at the time.

    • Web Application Development
    • Domain Driven Design
    • Microservices Architecture

Aurora worked with the Safello team to ship a few

key features in the product. Additionally the team analyzed and refactored some of the codebase into a microservices architecture to allow for easier maintenance and extensibility of the platform.

At the time there was a lack of open source decentralized exchanges in the market, so we embarked on the mission to build an open source service. This was also our first challenge into the new and exciting world of Cryptocurrencies back in 2014.

We built a white-label exchange system that was able to handle generic automated deposits using different currencies (like bitcoin and litecoin) as well as an exchange with rock solid foundations and ability to handle tens of thousands of transactions per second.

The exchange part was built specifically with performance in mind. We tested upto 10000 transactions handling on local development machines. Other features include auditing and the most interesting part was event sourcing and being able to build the exchange to its current state in case of any serious error. All the features of the exchange were exposed as a RESTful API, and we have built a demo web based front-end as well.

The idea came to us from a startup weekend contestant that our CEO was mentoring. The idea was to transform online fundraising and make it more fun, interesting and social. It shouldn’t be embarrassing to raise money online for your personal needs. The idea won the startup weekend and we took it onboard to take the idea to the next level.

Papafund was envisioned as a crossover platform between crowdfunding and a competition for prize. The platform that we developed allowed people to submit pitches to win a micro-funded cash prize. People were able to submit a one hundred word entry for why they deserve the prize money for their cause. Community members voted for the winner based on the best cause and the top five voted ideas were judged to find the eventual winner. We launched and tested an MVP version of Papafund and briefly featured on Product Hunt in 2015. Papafund project was sunset after a beta testing of about four months.

    Feedback summary:

Aurora Solutions was responsible for large revenue streams and was very easy to manage. They took ownership of their work and always stayed on target. Their personality worked well with difficult accounts, and they ensured third-party satisfaction.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a former senior director of engineering for a billing platform in Java.

What challenge were you trying to address with Aurora Solutions?

We needed a team to help us extend our platform and support various clients.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had several features and integrations with other systems to add. They did both feature development and implementation work and were involved in the full length of the life cycle. We have more than one location, and each area had ownership in their own requirement gathering, design, implementation, tests, and the deployment and integration with customers. If we had a big deployment to a large customer, we had prompts to support those clients, so they helped with a few projects.

    What is the team composition?

So we had a project manager and two team leads. Each team lead managed a team of two developers and a QA specialist. We interacted mostly with the project manager and the two leads.

How did you come to work with Aurora Solutions?

They started working with the company before I did.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $300,000–$400,000 a year on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from about March 2013–September 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

One of their leads managed a large customer for us, which represented about 25% of our revenue. They did the initial implementation, followed by a long set of improvements and enhancements and support.

How did Aurora Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

We had three project managers throughout our relationship. They were very professional, thorough, and proactive in identifying risks and matching customers. They had the right personality for our tougher customers and kept everyone happy. We used Jira for tracking issues and had a chart overlay with weekly status reports.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We could trust them to complete the tasks as we wanted them. They took control of the work but always came to us with any questions. They stayed on track and were much easier to manage than some of my other vendors.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have any areas of improvement for them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

This is fairly generic, but make sure your projects are self-contained. Let them have ownership of their work; that will save you time.
